Does Tony Romo need somebody to get in his face?

As someone said, coach and player are friends. Jerry has backed Tony also for years. When this happens, you have the keys to the organization to do what you please. He will still have good games, but his bad games will become more frequent.

All correct, but I do not think Romo has the attitude of doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

He is like a child that has never been disciplined. It is not his fault he has been enabled. He has never had anyone ride him since Parcells and Lee left the building. I do not think Wilson or Garrett would dare. Callahan and Linehan are even lower on the organizational pecking order.

Romo is just a B Favre Jr. ..... looks just as bad and makes the same bad decisions Favre did until Mike Holmgren came along to control him and hold him accountable for the decisions .....

Responding to the part in bold.

He has always been a bit of a wildcard and in the past he has gotten away with improvising, taking risks and pulling his rear end out of the fire after doing something ill advised quite often.

Its frustarting, then exciting but then frustarting again because the romo led offense has made amazing plays, but it also frequently shoots itself in the foot. All 11 players are far too ofetn NOT on the same page.

At this point in his career i dont think he will be able to keep "going to the well" with his old tricks, either due to injury, age or because the rest of the leaugue knows how to prepare for his free wheeling style of play and they know how to make him uncomfortable.

I think he couldl have more success this year if he plays within a system as more of a game manager type and the cowboys become a much more run oriented team - but i just cant see him accepting that role.

So i agree that we may see more self-destructive bad games from romo than we are used to in the future.

Tony has never had any competition.

He's always done what he wanted. That won't change.

You're fooling yourself to think Garrett will ever confront Romo. Romo is Jerry's guy
and Jerry is going to back his 100mil investment over a lame duck coach. Romo
is going to run this team because he has the real power man behind him. Garrett is
just a "Dead Coach Walking" and he's beginning to look the part. I will be
surprised if he's not replaced before mid-season.

I only said it's Garrett's job to do it, not that he would. I'm under no illusion to the dysfunction of this organization when it comes to Jerry Jones. Jerry being the GM is the single biggest issue this team has, mainly because there is no hope of this issue being fixed while Jerry draws breath.

Dodger12 spitting truth venom all over this thread.

I'll repeat a story Broaddus told back on 103.3 before he went to work for the team. He had dinner with Gruden the day before we had a Monday Night game, and Gruden asked him if there was anyone out there (at the Ranch) who really got in Tony's face when he made mistakes. Broaddus said, no, not really. Gruden sort of frowned and said, "That's not good."

As others said, Garrett can't really come down hard on Tony after years of BFFing him and having Tony bail him out. It would take a new coach with a new perspective to do anything like that.

And if Tony is declining physically, it may be too late for screaming at Tony anyway. It'll take more someone smart enough to recognize his strengths and weaknesses and who can put in a system and call plays to get the most out of him.

That's why I don't want my Head Coach and My Qb being boys hanging out like they're best friends. Romo and Garrett go to basketball games together like they're teammates instead of coach and player. Garrett will never get on Tony like that on the sidelines or bench him if he screws up.

JG is not dumb. He's not going to get his meal ticket mad at him.

IMO....he needs a good old tongue lashing. I have yet to see anybody on the staff get after him for a few years now. He needs a wake up call.. I don't care if has lost a little zip.. he should still be able to make the reads. With this Oline (Which will be getter better as time goes) He can just drive the bus so to speak.

Yes, he does. Now who would do that since this sanctioning of his behavior goes to the top of this organization.

Here's what I wish would happen in the huddle with 2nd down at their two yard line. A run play is called...

Murray: Dude, do not *ucking audible out of the run. Just give me the *amn ball.
Romo: We'll see man
Fred: He's right, we'll get in the end zone
Romo: Chill, I got this
T. Smith: For real, I don't care how many *uckers are at the LOS - we're gonna ram the ball in. WE got this. All you gotta do is hand the *amn ball to Demarco.
Z. Martin nods

Dan Reeves said when the Cowboys won under Coach Landry they still felt like they had lost because he was such a tactical guy that all he saw was the teams mistakes & he spent all the time in meetings pointing those out. He did not pat them on the back for winning. He expected them to eliminate their mistakes & would emphasize them in meetings.

I am sure we have none of that now. I hear "well Tony is human & he makes mistakes."

And maybe that is why we fail.

For so long Romo has been asked to so much, I think he doesn't realize at times that he doesn't have to press. He needs to be told that we now have a running game and he can trust his OLine.

A comment he made during his PC after the game bothered me a bit. When asked about the 2nd and 1 play at the goal line, he explained what he saw then he said something like "We can always run on the next down if pass fails".

It's sounded like he still thinks the run play will not be as effective as the pass play no matter what the situation is.

It's too late for that. Romo, like any other good player to improve, needed good coaching. We (and Romo) needed that when Parcells left. Wade realized the team needed help on the offensive side of the ball and tried to bring in Dan Reeves but that was shot down. Garrett had no credibility as a coach and then end result is what we've seen on the field the last few years.

Did you see that look on Garrett's face towards the end of the game on Sunday? That was a guy who knew his money train (Romo) had left the station and he's in some deep crap.

Well said.

heck no he doesn't need to get someone in his face.

Chief apologist Jason Garrett said that while Romo did some thing wrong, he played very well.

Now we half both a bad QB and an enabler. How much more awful can it get?
I will tell you, awfuller than the Quincy Carter days.

This would be perhaps the first season in years where we could say this. Seems like the people "getting up in his face", were the opposing defenses. Now that he is all beat up, we finally decided to get him an offensive line. Now that we have awarded him this luxury, we can afford to not give him a defense that will require that we lean on him for 400+ yard aerial attacks. I doubt he gets the running game he desperately needs, we wont have time for running the ball when we are constantly playing catchup..

Ya, I'd say we need to get all up in his face for letting us down. Perhaps he should be all up in the face of the organization for not fielding a well-balanced team. The guy deserves more.

That was very well said. Romo looked like dog crap no doubt but this is the first time he's had what may be a very good oline.
Given that he got very few snaps with them in preseason, it is going to take time for him to trust their worth.
The guy has taken a beating year after year, I'm holding out hope he learns to trust the line, our coaches and himself figure out the run works and
our defense plays decent. Then maybe we have some thing worth watching.

A tongue lashing from someone on the staff isn't going to change Romo. This is a guy who's been brutalized by the fans and media for years he's become immune to tongue lashings and harsh criticism. Romo's been very secure as the Cowboys starter for 8 years and needs to be pushed by another QB that's how you send a QB a wakeup call. The team has never brought in someone to push him. Competing with Henson and Bledsoe made Romo the player he was but since then there's been no one to challenge him as the starter.

Had Jerry pulled the trigger on Manziel that would have sent a clear message to Romo. He's never once been benched during a game for performing poorly. The best way to send a wakeup call to a QB is to bench them or draft a QB with a high pick. The Cowboys have nothing behind Romo and he knows it. Jerry invested a lot of money in him and is committed to him regardless of how he plays. Romo knows he can sling the ball all over the place throwing pick after pick and he'll never be benched.

Add this to that conversation:

Bryant: Romo, dude, just hand off the ball. Don't get *ucking cute. Our line's been handling them all day. They got this. Don't *ucking audible.
Williams: He's Right. Let's ram it down their throats.
Witten: I got the block. Let's run it.

It needs to be all 10 other players that buy in. not just the OL

wh

while he was there he did ..... after he left ..... Favre went back to his old self .....

No. He lost the reins while still there. Plenty of times you would see Favre head to sidelines after int with Holmgren very animated.

Favre lost 2nd Super Bowl.
