News: Several Former Cowboys make pre-lim list of HOF Nominees

Woodson was easily my favorite defensive player of that era. Would love to see him get enshrined although I doubt it ever happens. At least not anytime soon.

Had a chance to meet and talk to him for a couple minutes a few years ago and he was just as nice a guy as he seems on TV. Class act.

My sense is that Darren Woodson and Leroy Butler tend to split any the '1990s dominant safety' vote.

If you go look at their stats, they are amazingly similar. Exact number of years played, both played in multiple Superbowls (Woodson won 3, Butler played in 2 and won 1 of them) -- Woodson has a more tackles, Butler has more interceptions and sacks -- they are roughly equal in forced fumbles and recovered fumbles, etc.

If McDonald is in (safety from 49ers and Cardinals) and Aneas Williams is in Woodson should be in. He was a more consistent player over a longer time and has more rings that those guys put together. If Ricky Jackson is in Haley should be in. Finally I think Moose gets in at some point. Best fullback of his generation by far.

Haley should be in, the other guys are kind of teetering on the fence.

Being unbiased, I think Gary Clark should be in the hall of fame as well. He gets overshadowed because he played with Art Monk but he was a great player without a doubt.

While it's great to debate all the "modern era" Cowboy greats who deserve to be in the HOF, there are several old school Cowboys that have been repeatedly screwed by the HOF voting members who have been waiting far far too long and are very overdue to get in. A lot of folks consider the HOF a joke until that situation is fixed.

Trying to put my Cowboys hat aside, if the Hall of Fame were about fairness, Darryl Johnston should go in. But the HOF doesn't value fullbacks that much so he won't sniff the hall. Woodson may suffer the same fate, though I think he may get some votes because he's such a nice guy, and he was a part of a dynasty.
The only two I see who should go in are Charles Haley and, yes, Jimmy Johnson. No, he doesn't have the longevity, but in his short time, he resurrected America's Team and made history in the process. You can't talk about the history of the NFL and not talk about Jimmy Johnson's Cowboys. He's like Joe Namath. He might not have the "stats," but NFL history wouldn't look the same without him.

Being biased, I want to see the Moose get in just because of the lack of appreciation of the fullback position. He was one of the last great ones. Also, people say that the Cowboys were good in the 90s because of Jimmy Johnson and not Jerry Jones, so why not Jimmy? Or is Jerry due some credit which would take away from Jimmy's success?

What is sad is that they changed to a single "senior" HOF'er but also quietly now elect two "Contributors"

Good list of the modern candidates however. Very hard to pick 15 out of that list.

I personally see Kurt Warner, Orlando Pace and Junior Seau going in first ballot. A lot of WR's deserve consideration. Edgerrin James and Terrell Davis for me at RB. Haley and Kevin Greene. Lot of DB's I would consider. Bunch of coaches. Coryell, Knox, Reeves, Vermeil and maybe Schottenheimer.

Agreed. Chuck Howley, Harvey Martin and Cliff Harris should already be enshrined. As for the modern Cowboys - Haley, Woody and Jimmy are no brainers.

Funny how half those guys are not even in Cowboys ROH. More pathetic than funny actually. But Jerry is the professed football man. SMH

I'd enjoy Vermeil's speech if he gets in.

But bring the Kleenex, and play The Crying Game Theme. :D

Those are great points.
