I decided to go backwards in our History to check on how many times we have had back to back road games and won the first one, thus creating a chance for back to back road wins. Here's what I found.

1962, failed.
1964. success with actually 3 straight road wins. Huge accomplishment in my book.
1966, success with the 2nd and 3rd games of a 3 game road stretch. Lost the first though. Still back to back road wins.
1967, failed.
1968, success.
1969, success in 3 straight and failure later in the year.
1971, success to open the season.
1972, failure.
1974, failure.
1975, success & failure same year.
1976, success, but lost a 3rd straight.
1978, failure and success.
1979, success to open the season.
1980, failure times three.1983, success and failure.
1984, failure times two.
1985, success.
1986, failure times two.

So, let's start with the greatest of them all, Coach Landry. 26 chances in his 29 years here. He won the first game of a back to back road stretch. He won 11 and lost 15.

42%

1992, failed.
1993, success.

Jimmy Johnson 1-1 in those opportunities.

1994, failed.
1995, success with one caveat, bye week in between.
1997, failed.

Barry was 1-2.

Chan and Dave were 0-0.

2003, success with one caveat, bye week in between. Odd fact, both games were in New York. Failure later in the year.
2005, failure.
2006, failure times two.

The Big Tuna, 1-4.

2007, two success and one failure.
2009, failure and success.

Wade was 3-2.

2012, failure.
2013, failure.
2014, success.

Garrett is 1-2.

So the overall count for this is 18-26. 44 times in their History the Cowboys have opened with a road win and followed it with another road game. That is 41% overall.

I can't speak or think for you, but my appreciation for what this team just did grew. Now I would very much like to add a 3rd straight win to the tally. We dat.

This is true. That is why I was always impressed by the Niner and Patriot dynasties; both teams played exceedingly well on the road and had long road winning streaks to show for it.

You know what really isn't easy? Winning back to back road games, than beating a potentially potent Saints offense on sunday nite....
My thoughts exactly. I don't think many expected before the season to beat the Saints. I think we have a 50/50 shot.

It's not easy to do in the NFL, period.

I wrote about this a few years ago after the team won on the road and followed up and lost a disappointing game on the road.

Despite the numbers showing that winning back-to-back road games being difficult for any team, regardless of how well they play....people here had their mind made up and skewered me for it.

You and I both know why they did.

So...Wade is our best HC in Cowboys history. I knew it! :D

All seriousness, good write up and was surprised at the results.

Do I need to go look at who we played in all of those previous times and factor in their records? I submit to you that at the very least you should have learned something from the Landry numbers.

I did a search for the win percentage on the back end of a two game road swing prior to that Rams game, because I was worried about it. I couldn't find anything general, but I did find an article that did a 7 year league calc for playing a road division game on the back end of a two game road swing. The winning percentage for the road team in that second game was .245, if I remember it correctly. Unfortunately, can't find the link, but that's a low number for something the spans the entire league and many seasons.

Good stuff Hos...thanks. Interesting info and as you said, makes me appreciate the wins at Tenn and St. Louis even more.

Apparently you missed my point....

Lot easier winning back to back road games when the crowd is filled with screaming Cowboy fans as opposed to home games where the only noise is being made by opposing fans.

Can you check to see if the QBs we played in that data were QBs that had no business starting in the NFL?

Too bad we don't get to play the Titans and Rams every week, ;)

Yup

If you tell me the criteria. I personally think if they don't deserve to play in the NFL we can't say we deserve to talk about the NFL, but that's just me.
