lol, For me we get inside of a 50 yarder that is money with Bailey. As soon as it left his foot I knew it was dead down the middle. Only concern I had was for the snap and hold to be good.

I usually feel the same way but I was on pin and needles because Bailey was limping earlier from a Giants leg whip (uncalled of course). Glad to see I worried for nothing. :D

How did Bailey get hurt earlier in the game? It looked like a Giant ran into him after an extra point? I never saw it though?

looked like one of them whacked him across the leg with his leg

I was a bit concerned because Aikman said he was hurt then saw replay but then after the ensuing kick off I it looked like Bailey was good.

I still think punting on 4th and 1 was a wuss move. We've converted almost every short yardage play this year. Our line would get that 9/10 times.

I agree, .. your 11 push their 11 back one yard.

That is one of the perks to committing to the run game in pre-season, .. that is one of the perks to sticking to the run game and being known as a run-oriented team.

The perk is that your kids absolutely believe you will convert on 4th and one, ... and in many cases, because of your reputation of being a strong running team, the other team does too.

To be honest, I thought the decision to punt from the 40 was a mistake.

Given our punting unit's recent performance, the expected value of a punt is a touch-back. Giants get the ball at their own 20.

They get it at their 40 if we fail to convert. I can't worry too much about losing those 20 yards given that the defensive philosophy prioritizes limiting the opponent's possession over limiting it's yardage. In this case, limiting the opponent's possession only requires converting on 4th and one. And given the rushing attack's dominance, the expected value of going for it is likely a conversion.

I think Jason has a lot of confidence in Bailey and rightfully so. When Dallas got to the Giants 31 to me there was no question in my mind that he would make it and the best thing to do was run the ball try to pick up a few more yards eat up the clock and hang the 3 on NY to make it a 10 point game which sealed the win. As for the punting earlier in the game? I would have been good with either call to go for it or not.

The calls are much more iffy without Bailey

Bailey is the best kicker in the game for good reason. It was shocking that he missed against the Texans to win that game in regulations. He made up for it in the OT. But he's just so damned automatic that missing doesn't enter your mind when he goes to kick. Even from 50+

And he wasn't near as automatic in college at Oklahoma State.

56 yard fg in Seattle.
Punt from the Giants 40 with a yard to go for a first down
49 yard fg to seal the game. If they miss Giants have great field position.

Garrett was 3 for 3.

Just remember that the next time you say he made a mistake. Funny how those tough but correct calls always get forgotten.

Typical prisoner of the moment stuff, man. If any of those had not been successful all of a sudden he's a bum.

It's terrible, but the media has planted it in the brains of fans.

I'm still buying into the mental ability of most fans, although...I do believe in a continually increasing youthful corrigibility although.

I will gladly give Garrett, Linehan, and Marinelli plenty of credit. I think they are all in exactly the role they should be.

Linehan and Marinelli as coordinators and not head coaches and Garrett as the walk-around, overseer head coach and not the playcaller.

This is the dynamic that works best for all and I hope it doesn't change any time soon.

For the first time in forever I have faith in this coaching staff to make the right calls.

This is an aside, but one of the few things I like about the the Steelers and Rooney's approach is that he spends a ton of effort finding the right coach, but he doesn't go through them too regularly. I think he understands that coaches probably get far too much blame when teams aren't dominating. Winning is both difficult and collaborative in the NFL. Few coaches can singlehandedly produce wins over a long period of time without a very strong GM, coordinators, talent, etc.

Belichecks of the world are exceptions, not rules.

Belichick isn't Belichick without Brady and the rest of the organization either.

While I've been on the fence for quite awhile about Garrett I've defended him much more than not over the playcalling. That 2007 team was extremely good with him as the OC. His offenses have consistently been good. Linehan is running his offense not Linehan's offense. Linehan never has run the ball like this.

What this shows is what many here have said over and over. The NFL is a game of matchups and taking what is there as well as doing what works and building on that. The major difference in this team and others lately is execution although you have to give the coaches credit, too.

I agree with you. we all have our own opinions about what we would do in those situations but my point Is that Garrett had to make those decisions and he was right each time his critics never remember those things they have an amazing amnesia.

As do his homers on the gaffes. Just sayn'

Everything this year looks and feels different. Lets hope it stays that way with Red's decisions as well and we can all keep enjoying this season immensely .
