The Linehan play calling thread

Why cant we move Dez around on occasion? Dallas makes it far too easy to double him up on big plays. Not only that on 4th and 2 they dont have any WRs running short across the middle, Beasley is 20 yards down field. You would think they would have some type of outlet WR in play instead of 4 guys 15 plus yards down the field.

It is frustrating how they continue to have no answer for Haslett and in my opinion it is Romo he is utterly confused on when they are and aren't blitzing and it speeds up his clock so he bails on plays too soon even when he has time. He had happy feet early on and was tossing the ball HIGH like he always does when he feels rushed.

Linehan really needs to mix it up. We're going to get exposed if we run on first EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Seems like we got a little big headed. Skins kept bringing a full blitz and the adjustment was not there. Should of went max protect and used Dez one on one against the rookie. But instead we the big headed coach wanted to stick with his vaunted O line. Doesnt matter how great the line is when they are bringing one or two more guys then you can block, no line is going to pick that up.

Murry gets 8 yards on first down in overtime. and you throw 3 straight passes. makes no sense. you get the first down first. then you can throw a pass on first down. the playcalling was just bad. this is a game you can't lose. cowboys lost to a bad team tonight.

Exactly. We gave control to the Skins. Why stray from a working formula, esp when Murray had 7 ypc. Could have run the ball on the blitzes. The blitzes were all Skins had and we have it to them. Now we play Cards and may have two losses in a row.

2nd and 3 and we pass. 3rd and 3 and we pass. 4th and 3 and we pass. You can't tell me #29 wouldn't get us those 3 yards with 3 runs.

I was saying the same thing after Romo went out and we had it 2nd and goal. We needed 7 there.

Haslett has enough of these games vs Dallas which have basically saved his job. When he's thrown an aggressive game plan at Dallas, the offense struggles to adjust

happens every year.....you would think the Garrett would expect that by now......bigger problem is the Commanders have shown the NFL how to beat the Cowboys......blitz'em.....more blitz's will come

Nah, wasn't bad. Murray was still breaking off big runs. Our Oline can't pass protect. Totally inept as pass protection.

That's because Romo can't figure out what audible to call. When you have 5 blocking and 7 or 8 blitzing, you're O-Line can't protect against those free guys. Haslett has given Romo fits with this and I think Haslett just feels like if they call it enough in the end it will work in their favor until Romo finally figures it out.

He let the Wash. D dictate to him. No screens, bailed on the run at crucial times, no hot routes, Dez one on one with a rookie--where are the backshoulder throws.
did I say he bailed on the run game at crucial times? Weeden had success coming from under center with playaction.......Romo back into the shotgun inviting the blitz.........
****
Murrays fumble on the 5 hurt bad.......even a FG keeps us out of OT
****
Escobar------totally non-existent--a 6'7" hot target against a blitz

Don't know we didn't take a shot with dez or t will on one them all out blitzes.....

Murry only 19 carries says it all. 19 carries for 141 yards. the cowboys listen to the haters in the national media, and lost this game. Murry should have had 30 carries tonight.

2nd and goal and you pass. 3rd and goal and you pass. I believe one of those were audibles and Dez should have had that thor down catch. But why go away from your bread and butter?

No because generally the Cowboys handle the blitz very well. It's just these games against Haslett where he's able to completely dictate the flow. It's not every game vs them but I'd guess maybe 4-5 games vs Washington over the last 4 seasons.

teams try every week, Romo usually reads it correctly and makes them pay, but for some reason he gets confused when Haslett does it, hats off to the Skins they just know how to get in his head

Looks like they just got away from what made them successful. Up imaginative routes except for the TD. No Dunbar out of the back field to counter the blitzes. All of the routes on blitzing downs were in the same area so that three could cover 4. Decision not to run on 3rd down late in the game.

Whatever. It'll get better.
Excellent post here. It was nauseating seeing Dez and Williams run in routes during our 2 minute warning while they were all out blitzing. No where to throw the ball, no spacing, and not trying to run any out routes to stop the clock. This is why I can't believe in this team yet. Because they are so talented on the offensive line, but this team is STILL sloppy on offense. Just a sloppy team on offense that's been the same way since Garrett's been here.

Dez got no separation. He got worked by a CB today. There wasn't enough time to wait for Dez to get separation from the rookie.

Linehan shows what it looks like when you can't protect the QB and you abandon the run.

They don't all out blitz and move around. They had the same formation the whole game and ran all of their packages from that blitz formation. It's sickening that our passing game is vulnerable to this type of pressure.

I said in the game thread that as good as he is, to me, Witten's lack of speed often hurts us with big-time blitzing teams.

Sure, he has savvy, but to me, he just doesn't have the speed to get away from defenders on hot routes much anymore.

Isn't Hanna's attribute his speed? Isn't Escobar much younger than Witten? I just think on blitzes, Witten can bog us down.

On another note, it doesn't help that Dez or Williams couldn't seem to beat their men either.
