He let the Wash. D dictate to him. No screens, bailed on the run at crucial times, no hot routes, Dez one on one with a rookie--where are the backshoulder throws.
did I say he bailed on the run game at crucial times? Weeden had success coming from under center with playaction.......Romo back into the shotgun inviting the blitz.........
****
Murrays fumble on the 5 hurt bad.......even a FG keeps us out of OT
****
Escobar------totally non-existent--a 6'7" hot target against a blitz

Very thoughtful post. Couldn't agree more. The Dez drop from Weeden was big too.

I think we lost because of play calling on 2 specific drives. 1. After Demarco broke that long run to the 5 yard line..we ran on 1st down and got 2 more yards. Then we threw on 2nd and 3 and 3rd and 3 with a backup QB. Then 2. After Demarco got 8 yards in OT....we passed on the next 3 downs. I hate it when they shy away from just punching it in on short yardage situations.

But I'm okay with this loss. Keeps us frosty, and ultimately doesn't t matter that much

Division record is the second tie-breaker (and Eagles are undefeated in the division so far) so ultimately it may in fact matter.

Dez got no separation. He got worked by a CB today. There wasn't enough time to wait for Dez to get separation from the rookie.

Linehan shows what it looks like when you can't protect the QB and you abandon the run.
Dez doesn't need separation but you can't throw it under when the WR is over the corner. When it's a max blitz and there's no safety and Dez is one on one, throw it up, not flat. You don't throw a flat pass to a guy who can really jump, you throw it HIGH.

I don't have a problem with the throw to Dez in the end zone. That should have been caught. Dez dropped an pass that was very catchable.

Let this team lose two of their next 3 games and we'll see how much this loss doesnt matter that much.

If we can't beat good teams the next few weeks what does it matter? I don't want to make the playoffs as an average or bad team. Makes continuing to grow that much tougher because of draft position.

If they're worth their 6-2 record, this loss doesn't mean much. Plenty of time to go. Destiny still in our own hands.

I said in the game thread that as good as he is, to me, Witten's lack of speed often hurts us with big-time blitzing teams.

Sure, he has savvy, but to me, he just doesn't have the speed to get away from defenders on hot routes much anymore.

Isn't Hanna's attribute his speed? Isn't Escobar much younger than Witten? I just think on blitzes, Witten can bog us down.

On another note, it doesn't help that Dez or Williams couldn't seem to beat their men either.

Come on now. If anything this falls on WRs not being able to separate. Not on the TE's lack of speed.

Seriously I can't believe what just happened. We have an identity: you CANNOT stop us when we want to run it down your throats.

So should we run it down a terrible run defense's throat?

Nah.

Is this gross mismanagement of resources? Give me this team, that down and distance in OT and even I know to run the damn ball. If we ran it and didn't get the 1st, then so be it, we chalk it up as they just beat our strength, but I cannot swallow completely not even relying on our strength.

All good here...Weeden had a nice touchdown drive ending with Witten...it seemed pretty effortless. Actually it was 3 specific drives: After the big Murray run...2nd and 2 on Romo's first possession post injury...and the overtime drive. Three drives that ended in just 3 points. The defense wasn't great, but they limited Washington to just 17 points in regulation. The vaunted Cowboys offense should have been able to overcome that.

No doubt..............We sit and watch Denver run bunch sets and quasi pick plays at every chance they get---------Dallas seems to shun them, actually purposefully not use them to dictate to the Defense.

2nd and 3 and we pass. 3rd and 3 and we pass. 4th and 3 and we pass. You can't tell me #29 wouldn't get us those 3 yards with 3 runs.

that was the game right there, specially with Romo hurting & being a deer in headlights all game long. Keep Murray running until they stop him.

The whole series in OT remind me of the team that went 8-8 past 3 seasons. Not the team that went 6-1.
It looked like as though JG took over the play calling in OT.

The thing is, I don't thing many people would blame him if he ran it in that situation and came up short. After all, it only make sense.

I disagree. Terrance got the same balls thrown his way even stole it from a corner today. I'm not gonna harp on Dez otday. He should've got more shots and while that corner dominated him in the red zone....that was where we usually go shoulder fade and Weeden wasn't able to throw it. This game is bigger than Dez so I don't want to make it like i'm harping on him but a consistent trend I'm seeing is lack of separation. It may not even be his fault. Dez has got to get more separation though. All the receivers do. That rookie on him today....props to him. He came to play.

Are you kidding me? "It was so predictable", blah blah. When a team loses, play-calling is always blamed, no matter what. (Of course, I think we should have kept running too).
