He shouldn't even have made the flight

I'm not talking about Romo either. From the minute the game ended last week JJ, JG, and Tony, knew Tony would be playing this week. As stupid as that is, they knew our season would completely flip, and become an epic failure if we lose to Jacksonville.

With that being said, Brandon Weeden should have been released on Monday, and not even made the flight to London.

If we can't beat The Jags with our backup QB, we don't deserve to go to the playoffs. We deserve to be 8-8 again. I don't care if it was a freak injury, or if it's totally unrelated to other back problems or not,. We should have been better prepared. Everyone knew Tony would miss some time this year. Your head was in the clouds if you didn't. If Weeden can't beat Jacksonville, with this roster, and these coaches, why is he on the roster?

I waited all week to post this because I wanted to make sure they would go through with the stupidity of playing Tony after breaking two bones in his back. I don't know why I ever questioned myself. I knew they would... I get Tony is tough as nails, and a serious competitor. But this is completely insane. It's wrong for every reason!!! What waste a roster spot for someone you have ZERO confidence in?

I agree with you that they should have been better prepared by getting a better backup. But, him playing this week isn't so insane, considering that he Baylor (I think) QB has this same injury this season and missed only 1 game.

There's not many awesome backup QBs in the NFL. Weeden sucked but he wasn't considered the worst insurance policy in the world before last week.

Hell, after the Commanders game, it was suggested by many that we would've won if Romo didn't return.

According to Aikman, Mark Stepnoski played with the same injury and that is with a defender right on top of you each play.

Baylor’s Bryce Petty said Monday he went through the identical injury (cracked transverse processes), and missed one game but then returned to the lineup.
“He can call me if he wants,” Petty said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “Everybody deals with it different. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. He’ll be fine, like I am.
“As far as a back injury to have, this is the one to have. It kind of heals itself. He has all the good people up there to help him out, just like I had the people down here to help [me] out.”

This is not being stupid he is the starting QB if he can play then he will. I don't expect him to play if he can move around and has no zip on his pass but as a professional football player he will play if he can just as a college QB was able to go out and play with the same injury

Yes. Great backups, they grown on trees. Most teams are totally hosed when their #1 goes down. Sometimes good teams can overcome that. Sometimes they can't. Weeden played poorly against a team that is playing really well right now.

Is Bryce Petty trying to get suspended?

You don't get suspended by talking to an NFL player, Dez did not get in trouble because he talked with Deion he got in trouble because he was meeting with Deion and Eugene Parker who was looking to sign Dez as a client

If Romo and the coaching staff believe he is healthy enough to play he should play no matter who the backup is.

In this game, you don't know from week to week what's going to happen to you, and every potential victory while you're healthy enough to play is precious. You can't take being healthy the next week or beating a woeful team for granted or you end up like Cleveland, which probably wasn't expecting to lose to the lowly Jaguars.

How can board sentiment go from wanting to bench Tony Romo in the pivotal series against he Sk*ns at home, to wanting to cut the guy they wanted to bench Romo for outright one single week later? We ought to start selling CowboysZone neck braces around here. :)

Yes, we know it makes fans and media feel better that demand that a player be cut. Repeat the following and you'll feel even better:

"Cut Em"
"I'd cut em"
"Cut his arse"
"Get him outta here"
"Throw him outta the plane over the Atlantic"

it would be stupid to cut a player you have to pay anyway and one you have no one to replace with. a week ago people were talking about him being so great in the skins game, now they want him cut with no one to replace him. fans are a bit bipolar sometimes

I fully agree. I make no excuse for Weeden he played poorly yet the week before he filled in nicely. I think there is some over reaction in regards to Weeden.

The evolution of love and hate for Dallas Cowboys players.
  • PlayerA has bad game .. Cut him NOW! Send a message!
  • PlayerA has great game next week after that .. Extend him NOW! Don't wait!
  • PlayerA has an average game next week after that .. He's a JAG! We need to draft the replacement NOW!
  • PlayerA has a great game next week after that .. We're so lucky to have him! Not regretting that contract at all now.
  • PlayerA has a bad game next week after that .. We should have cut him during the off-season! Jerry will never learn!

That about covers it. lol

This will be unpopular, yet here goes:

1.) I would give Weeden another chance. Dress Romo, don't start him and bring him in only if needed

He is not a vested veteran so his salary is not guaranteed.

There's also the case for players who are drafted or signed in free agency where we magically know immediately if they're ever going to be any good or not before they even play a single snap. Largely by relation to where their name showed up on a Mel Kiper spreadsheet or on the stat line of the team they came from.

With that logic, Romo should be released after a 3 or 5-pix day.
