How can board sentiment go from wanting to bench Tony Romo in the pivotal series against he Sk*ns at home, to wanting to cut the guy they wanted to bench Romo for outright one single week later? We ought to start selling CowboysZone neck braces around here. :)

that is just a typical day at extremecowboyszone.com

Promote Dustin Vaughn as primary back up; demote Weeden to 3rd string!

I would have gone with Sanchez myself he signed with the Eagles 11 days after the Cowboys signed Weeden. I'm assuming Weeden was the cheaper option and the Cowboys probably felt there's still some room for him to grow with this being only his 3rd season.

He's older though, is he not? Googled it, yep he is. Alot younger. Sanchez is 27, Weeden is 31. Say what you will about Sanchez, but he's had more success than Weeden. Disappointed they didn't get him. I would have considered it a good investment given that pretty much everyone knew Tony would be missing at least 1 game.

I just posted I would have gone with Sanchez due to his playoff experience and the fact he's played in a couple of title games. Weeden is older but he only had 2 years of NFL experience before coming to Dallas. He's still a developing player who could possibly improve. Sanchez had success when he had a good defense and running game. Once both disappeared he's looked dreadful which is why most QB rankings had him ranked near the bottom the last few years. I just posted a ranking with Sanchez ranked lower than Weeden.

Obviously Sanchez looks like the better choice NOW seeing he just helped Philly win a game and Weeden just helped the Cowboys lose one. I'm sure money played a part in the Cowboys going with Weeden over Sanchez. The Cowboys do have one of the highest paid starters in Romo and they had Tyron and Dez's extensions to consider along with Murray's.

The evolution of love and hate for Dallas Cowboys players.
  • PlayerA has bad game .. Cut him NOW! Send a message!
  • PlayerA has great game next week after that .. Extend him NOW! Don't wait!
  • PlayerA has an average game next week after that .. He's a JAG! We need to draft the replacement NOW!
  • PlayerA has a great game next week after that .. We're so lucky to have him! Not regretting that contract at all now.
  • PlayerA has a bad game next week after that .. We should have cut him during the off-season! Jerry will never learn!

Agree with everything you said. The reason it's different with Weeden is twofold. One, the coaches and team have zero confidence in him. This is proven by him not playing this week. Will be proved again when he is released immediately after the season. Two, his record and accomplishments speak volumes. He was bad in Cleveland, and is bad in Dallas.

I have never been a Weeden fan even before we signed him. He has no touch on his passes and his accuracy has never been good. Honestly, I'd rather have Vaughan playing than Weeden, only because at least we don't know what we have with Vaughan, not that he would necessarily be any better.

He shouldn't have been signed.

But when your front office at the top is devoid of a single talent evaluator, you get these sort of things.

There's bad, there's worse and then there's Brandon Weeden.

Ya that post wasn't directed at you, just in general people rip Sanchez, with good reason, but I think he's definitely better than Weeden. I'm unable to look it up right now, but I would be very interested in how Sanchez's contract with the Eagles compares to Weeden's contract. If there is a significant difference, then I understand why they went with weeden, if there's a minimal difference, then I just don't agree with that decision

I don't care if it was a freak injury, or if it's totally unrelated to other back problems or not,. We should have been better prepared. Everyone knew Tony would miss some time this year. Your head was in the clouds if you didn't. If Weeden can't beat Jacksonville, with this roster, and these coaches, why is he on the roster?

No one knew Romo would miss time this season due to a freak injury, so it does matter. His back problem got fixed and he has recovered nicely after a little early rust, which was fully expected.

I don't care who Dallas plays. I don't take that team for granted. I expect them to go into the game using the best players they have available that give them the best chance at winning. They can beat the Jags with Weeden, but if Romo is close you go with the better QB. He gives Dallas the better chance. Backup QBs are on the roster to be used when the starter absolutely can't play. If Orton was still here I would still want Romo starting. If whomever you think is the absolute best backup in the league was on the Dallas roster I would still want Romo starting if he is close to being healthy.

Sanchez
1 year deal
$750K signing bonus
$1.5 million base
$2.25 million cap hit
$1.5 million dead money if the Eagles cut him

Weeden
2 year deal
$0 signing bonus
$570K base in 2014 and cap hit
$0 dead money if Dallas cut him
$660K base in 2015 and cap hit
$0 dead money if Dallas cuts him

If Romo and the coaching staff believe he is healthy enough to play he should play no matter who the backup is.

In this game, you don't know from week to week what's going to happen to you, and every potential victory while you're healthy enough to play is precious. You can't take being healthy the next week or beating a woeful team for granted or you end up like Cleveland, which probably wasn't expecting to lose to the lowly Jaguars.

Trying to find a way to like the hell out of this post.well stated

I'm not a doctor but from everything I've read Romo's injury is not structural. Had nothing to do with his previous injury. Is not subject to further damage.

Knowing that, why on earth would you not start Romo assuming he can deal with the discomfort and perform at his usual level or close to it?

It is likely that the decision to play Romo is based more on giving the team the best chance to win and less on the lack of confidence in Weeden.

If Orton were still here Romo would and should still get the start assuming the above is true.

Yes. Great backups, they grown on trees. Most teams are totally hosed when their #1 goes down. Sometimes good teams can overcome that. Sometimes they can't. Weeden played poorly against a team that is playing really well right now.

With that said you should never settle for a guy that should be shoveling **** for a living. You don't invest $150 million into a roster and go cheap on the backup QB.

Can you name a QB who was available that was considered better and who wasn't being offered a starting job? The Cowboys wanted Orton but him not wanting to play for the team left the Cowboys scrambling and they settled on Weeden.

Any Quarterback that was undrafted this year and Tim Tebow, lol

There's not many awesome backup QBs in the NFL. Weeden sucked but he wasn't considered the worst insurance policy in the world before last week.

Hell, after the Commanders game, it was suggested by many that we would've won if Romo didn't return.
No doubt..ONe bad game and Weeden is the worst backup in the history of the league..LOL
