This is why I couldn't stand Wade Phillips, but I loved him at the same time

Was never a big Switzer fan mainly because I grew up a Longhorns fan but to his credit he did win 3 national championships and a SB so he was doing something right.

I love Barry. But he wasn't a coach as much as he was the best recruiter who ever lived.

There is a massive difference between managing a department and managing a company.

And both require leaders. In the case of football, they are leaders of men. I don't have a probl;em with what you said, per se. But with the fact you suggested he cannot lead men. He would not be a DC in the most influential game in the world without leadership qualities.

Generalizing to set the stage for your point doesn't make it correct.

The guy knows defense, no doubt, and he's a helluva guy. But inspirational, he is not. He's not a guy that players want to emulate like Jason Garrett is. Orlando Scandrick idolizes Garrett. Nobody is idolizing Wade Phillips.

If you look at all the teams Wade coached, they all had one thing in common, they all got worse and not better. The arrow would eventually point down with him as the head coach.

As Wade did with Parcells' team.

Parcells' team wasn't a Super Bowl winning team though lol. Switzer took a Super Bowl winning team to the NFC Championship game the following year. Wade took a 9-7 team to a 13-3 team. Hardly the same IMO.

Them jump from 9 to 13 wins in large part was Wade's defensive unit.

Idolizing I don't know even if Scandrick does that for Garrett but the guys played hard for Wade. Just like any other coach, they tuned him out when they started losing. To Garrett's defense, for the most part he's put atleast a .500 product out there.

But people played hard for Wade. Make no mistake about it. Scandrick included.

No, it was the arrival of Romo and an incredibly easy schedule that season. If memory serves, they didn't beat a single winning team that year (or something close to that).

Uh, apparently you missed the 2011 season. I've never seen a team lay down that hard on a coach.

No I remember it fondly but you also can't ignore that they played well for him in 2009 as well as 2007. 2011 was a travesty and by that point they had tuned him out. But that's the case for every coach in this league. When you start racking up losing seasons you lose your players. That's in any sport.

Well for starters they beat a 10-2 Packers team though without Favre and did it when Romo threw 4 picks lol. So that not only shows they beat a winning team but one where Romo played bad lol. And I don't know what the Giants record was but being we beat them and they went on to become Super Bowl Champs after our loss to them in the post season I'm sure they had a winning record too.

The schedule had some stinkers in it but most do. But they were DOMINATING teams. They were scoring points on teams and the defense was shutting teams down.

Right. Wade is an X's and O's guy. He is not a guy to instill discipline in a locker room. If he has a head coach who can do it, he works as a DC. If he's the head coach, the players run the room and he has no chance to succeed.

People talk about the 13-3 season. His team was primed for that. If Wade Phillips was hired before Parcells he'd have flopped miserably here. Probably fired after two years.

At least he admits it.

Too bad he didn't realize it before he came in and set the Cowboys back. If we could have gotten him just as defensive coordinator and brought in a real head coach, we might could have contended when he was here.
