People forget the player's have rights. This is his. He's not out-of-line to want more guaranteed money. It's all business, for both sides.

True....all bidness. But I have a hunch it won't stay that way.

Franchise tags never wind up being business. Players traditionally take it too seriously.

Yup. Straight up.

If the franchise tag was challenged in court of law, it would never hold up. Dez is a complete free agent...so how could/should he be legally compelled to play for one team for an amount that can't be negotiated? But the players association signed the contract!

I understand a little how it rubs players the wrong way.

I don't think highly of billionaire owners but then I don't think highly of spoiled multi-millionaire athletes. I'm not a fan of either party in this situation.

Owner rights? Player rights? I only care about the fans in these situations and it's often the fans that get most cheated.

If Dez is making $10+ million for one season of football and he doesn't get himself ready to deliver....or brings it halfway...he'll only hurt himself. And us.

Whether Dez plays in Dallas at a high level next year or not is completely irrelevant to what he reported.

Why do you feel the need to mention this? Do you lack the maturity to handle this "biting criticism" of your beloved Cowboys?

I don't think it was irrelevant, obviously.

I suppose I have a hard time mustering up a lot of respect for the opinions of somebody who proven he's is willing to peddle negativity and unsourced stories in order to get attention on the internet. Any specific reason why you seem to find that threatening? It's weird that you'd come out so strong in defense of a Werder rumor.

Well and add to that it doesn't work out evenly. Fans often side with players because players are considered millionaires, which are closer to us than billionaires. That being said, it's not that simple. It's really millionaire players against their owner who has to pay the rest of the team with limited funds. If Jerry could keep the whole team in tact with no cap, he'd pay all of them. That's not his luxury.

I, for one, am pleased by how many people here are reasonable when it comes to free agent signings.

What I find weird is the typical childish reaction around here whenever they hear something they think threatens their fandom.

Werder reported Dez would skip offseason workouts. And that's all he reported.

You replied oh, Ed Werder with an unofficial source.

I pointed out the typical fan tendency to immediately lash out at the messenger when the message makes their face paint run.

You responded saying Dez would have a great year in Dallas next year.

You don't see the problem? It lies with you, not Ed Werder.

It is pretty common for tagged players to do this. The team can rescind the tag at any time before camp, so there is no reason a player would expose themselves to injury at off-season activities.

I put the chances of Werder being right about this somewhere between slim and none.
No one should take that comment seriously.

I am sure the front office knows how far they can go in regards to pushing Dez's buttons.

I wouldn't want to give him any incentive to not give 100% this season though..
Dez is smart enough to know that working less hard hurts him. It won't get you a better contact from Dallas. It won't get you a better offer from another team who will see when things don't go your way, you pout and give less effort

Werder with pure speculation. You don't think in this day and age that his character issues would have come out by now? I am the opposite of Skip. I do not respect Werder's sources. I do not think there is any apprehension, and I do not think Dez will do less.

Be careful Hos, Ed is on this board. Btw, I totally agree with you.

it ultimately could hurt dez because if the doesn't participate he is at higher risk of injury during season especially early on. The last thing a player wants is to deal with injury in his contract year. If I am Dez...I take the $13 mill guaranteed and have even better year than '14 and then get paid. Dez proves nothing by sitting out.

There's a lot of instances where I could see this true. This is far from one. First of all, whatever the opinion on the writer, Who cares? Sourced or not. So he skips off season workouts. Big deal. Is that a surprise? It certainly doesn't threaten fandom...

If we franchise him this season, he's most likely gone the next. Either give him a contract or trade him.

Why should Dez be happy with 13 mill for a single year from the franchise tag when some team would easily pay him 13 mil for numerous years and he gets guaranteed money on top of that? If we franchise him, I'm sure he's gone just because of the disrespect he perceives coming from the organization.
