Miles Austin tried to skip workouts before he got his big contract and guess who advised him to come back before the minicamp?

I'd also point out that Dez decided to table negotiations during the season. And in this case the tag buys the team the opportunity to keep negotiating without the threat of losing him to another team. The stigma of the franchise tag is media driven and more importantly something that agents are using as a bargaining chip and telling their clients bad advise about the teams use of it. Just compare the tags hefty price vs the first year of a big money contract. In many cases the tag offers more money upfront than that "long term" contract does in the first few years. Spencer made a big sum of money from the teams use of it in back to back years, more money than he would have made in a long term contract. Most teams don't want to use the tag but because the agents and teams can't close deals in an organized and timely fashion the tag gives them that extra time.

If prior history with this particular organization has taught us anything is that they tend to overpay, especially when they believe they are knocking at the championship door.

Told anonymously to Ed Werder, you say? I'll take that to the bank, then.

Doesn't matter who said it, we all know it will be true. It will happen this way. I hope this is all negotiating tactics and none of this crap happens . We have a good thing going on here, that is right on the edge of turning bad very fast. If things go bad with Dez,DM, Ro, Free,
Parnell, etc, This past season will be a nothing but a good old memory. Not the stepping stone or turning point we all want it to be. We have a very good core of young and now hungry talented players. They surround a couple very good, smart, OLD veteran guys. That balance and chemistry could lead us very far next year. If we tick off Dez, and let DM and a few others leave, Tony and Jason could watch all those guys get rings somewhere else. We need to stop messing with something that's not broken!!!

What I find weird is the typical childish reaction around here whenever they hear something they think threatens their fandom.

Werder reported Dez would skip offseason workouts. And that's all he reported.

You replied oh, Ed Werder with an unofficial source.

I pointed out the typical fan tendency to immediately lash out at the messenger when the message makes their face paint run.

You responded saying Dez would have a great year in Dallas next year.

You don't see the problem? It lies with you, not Ed Werder.

Yawn. Moving on, then.

I don't think it was irrelevant, obviously.

I suppose I have a hard time mustering up a lot of respect for the opinions of somebody who proven he's is willing to peddle negativity and unsourced stories in order to get attention on the internet. Any specific reason why you seem to find that threatening? It's weird that you'd come out so strong in defense of a Werder rumor.

Just for arguments sake, what are some things he has reported that were wrong? I'm asking so that I can form an opinion based on facts, and not just because people don't like how he looks.

You can look up his history as easily as I could do it for you.

Let's face it -- there's a game of words going on right now. Both Dez and the FO have their valid points. If Dez really thinks it isn't about money and feels he's disrespected, then the organization likely wouldn't feel obliged to compromise by agreeing to pay a franchise fee that's destined to be monetarily quite demanding. They're in the midst of a cap-related pinch right now to sign their team's many free agents and still remain relatively competitive. Some consideration for that should be forthcoming if a player is truly committed to being team-friendly. He'll surely get his fat contract eventually. Patience will be required.

Take it for what its worth. If true, I don't blame him.

Yeah I agree. He's an integral part of this team not only the on field production, but the leadership and the passion he brings are irreplaceable. I hope the team gets him taken care of.

You really don't need Werder's tweet to recognize that Dez likely would not be present for offseason activities, up to and including training camp.

I would also bet that it never gets to that, because Dallas tagging Dez is only to buy time before signing him to a mega deal in a few months.

I agree that the Tag, if used, will only be in place to buy time to get a long-term deal done but I'd much rather that deal get done sooner to free up money for FA (our own and others).

I don't put much into Werder comments. I will say I expect Dez to be at the workout, OTA to get himself ready for the season if he is not there I will be disappointed in him. These activities are about getting players ready for the upcoming season and I expect all players to be there and involved.

He should be ALOT more grateful and humble over what the organization has given him, especially after beating his mother and then buying her off.

I would sure as hell blame him and be fine with trading him. When you franchise a guy, you are playing by the rules. The player is on your roster, and you are paying him a great deal of money while continuing to work on a longer term deal. If Dez then skips all offseason workouts, I would have a big problem with that.

Once he signs the franchise, every cent of that 13-15 million is guaranteed money, so why skip offseason work? Makes zero sense to me.

Because he could have an injury in training camp and lose out on his big pay day?

Probably is one of those words agents use to say, "Please don't tag my client. We won't like it."

It's possible Dez could show his disappointment by not showing up to some volunteer stuff, but I doubt it would go beyond that.

it ultimately could hurt dez because if the doesn't participate he is at higher risk of injury during season especially early on. The last thing a player wants is to deal with injury in his contract year. If I am Dez...I take the $13 mill guaranteed and have even better year than '14 and then get paid. Dez proves nothing by sitting out.

Agreed. Dez already making business decisions. And if Dez wants to throw that out there, then I have no problem with the Cowboys playing the 'apprehension' card in reference to his off-field issues. Seems his immaturity is starting to show again.

Don't blame him at all. Last thing he needs is to tear an ACL in non-contact offseason activities like Sean Lee. Very wise decision and solid counseling from his advisors.

Agree. When we hear I won't be getting ready for the season then it's serious...

I don't disagree that that's what Dez would probably do, but I'm so sick of that creepy little worm and his unsourced rumors.

I don't know ... Mr. 70s porn mustache is probably right.... But he probably asked the question. Dez answered.

It's typically the recourse for players when they get tagged and don't like it, so I don't think any of us would be surprised at all if it were to happen, but, yeah, the guy's only as good as his sources, and his sources--as far as we can tell--don't actually exist.
