Vikings refuse to release Adrian Peterson

Can't say I ever considered AP an option here.
Certainly didn't want to pay that huge salary.

Giving up a high draft pick to be able to pay a 30 year old running back 20+ guaranteed would be astoundingly stupid. I'm glad for the first time in a long time I have confidence in this organization not making astoundingly stupid moves.

yeah true true...but at least you know what you're getting with AP.

our high pick RB could very well be another felix jones....nobody really knows.

What a bad pick that turned out to be and the reasoning behind it was even worse.

We took Felix because he wasn't like Barber. They knew from the get go he wasn't an every down guy and they chose him in the first round.

What a fail of a pick.

We took a guy in the first round and used the logic for a speed back you would take in the 4th.

ironic since jamaal charles was the one with olympic speed.

Trading for Peterson at his age, paying him, and committing those resources would be the reverse Herschel Walker. Nope.

I want Peterson.. I feel like he is the closest thing out there that guarantees us a shot at the Superbowl.

With that said the only way I would trade is if it's a 3rd or 4th rounder with the ability to negotiate his contract before the trade is made.

Yup!

Best case scenario: he gets dumped. We overpay..

Worst case scenario: we trade pick and pickup contract, overpay.

People still really think this is going to happen after signing Hardy?

I think signing Hardy doesn't change much. Some could argue that since we made a 1 year move on Hardy the team realizes it is in the position to win Now.
So getting Peterson would be a win now move. The Darren McFadden signing may make it less likely for Peterson than the Hardy signing.

I have to believe this is posturing by the Vikes. I don't see them paying $13M to a disgruntled back that brings all sorts of baggage with him. But they're not in a rush to cut him either so they may as well see if they can squeeze picks out of some clown before doing so. In the end, no GM in the league is likely to fall for these shenanigans and Peterson is likely to be a late cut (maybe even a training camp cut). By that time, most teams will have made other plans at RB and the market for Peterson (likely to be limited already, as it was for Hardy) will have largely dried up. We'll see if the Cowboys try to add him to the fold on the cheap when the time comes.

It was yet another tragic example of failed logic. Almost as bad as a 'special teams' draft.

I think they end of cutting him, but when ever that is the market will be ripe with buyers. Regardless of time of year, somebody will be more than willing to add AP to their team.

Interesting. Why do you think his case is different than Hardy's? If anything, Hardy is younger and plays the more valued position.

If I was Peterson, I would make the Vikings force their hand and take the Kyle Orton approach and don't show up for nothing unless I have too..

Cut me or Pay me

Wherever he plays he's going to be a monster this year. A lot of people on here discount the Vikes but they are poised for a big jump and Peterson makes that jump a lot more likely. I can see them paying that money to give themselves the best chance. I've wanted him this whole time but also want to draft a guy. We know the run game is the strength of the team; you don't go shallow with good RB depth and uncertainty.

I wouldn't budge if I were the Vikings. I hope he stays there.

DRAFT A YOUNG STUD RB!

Thank you. Come again.

That's what the browns said when they drafted the young stud RB Trent Richardson.
This is what the saints thought when they drafted Mark Ingram.
This is what the Raiders thought when the draft Darren McFadden.

Its a long shot.

It's AP. I think more folks can relate to whipping a kid with a switch than they can in hitting a woman. Not saying either is right but owners/GM's are in the crowd of "I got whipped as a kid" and I turned out fine.
