vikings are desperate to get something for him; and the fact that his most likely new team is the Boys probably just makes the cheese bind a little harder.

They will never forget how we raped and sodomized them in the HW deal.
And that that trade was a key part of our 3 SB wins.

Yeah, their worst nightmare is Peterson lighting it up in Dallas in the post season and them having nothing to show for it.

Peterson's a great player and all, and I'd be all over him at the right price if he were a FA, but I have to say, if I were a Viking fan, I'd be getting pretty ticked at the stance he's taking towards that organization. He's got his pride, and he's probably right that there are some in the organization that don't support him, but where's the responsibility he's taking for his actions here? He's the one who put the club and the league in a horrible position re: the PR impact. It cost the team sponsorship dollars and was a massive distraction last season. The whole time he was collecting salary for an incident of his own doing. While I don't think he was beating his kid maliciously, he very definitely went overboard and it was just truly awful judgement.

At some point, a man has to step back and say 'yah, I created this giant mess that the organization then didn't handle well.' And then get back to work and start earning that next $12.5M next season instead of pouting because you think they ought to have had your back more than they did.

That's what the browns said when they drafted the young stud RB Trent Richardson.
This is what the saints thought when they drafted Mark Ingram.
This is what the Raiders thought when the draft Darren McFadden.

Its a long shot.

So is hoping we land that 30 yr old running back without giving up draft picks or major cash. There's also no guaranteeing he'll be the same running back. Yeah, I've heard how he's this freak of nature who will never break down... blah, blah, blah. Just another risk if you ask me.

I could live with that because we are in WIN NOW MODE.
Still would hurt to give up a first round pick.
But if it would get us to the Super bowl.....

I expect Dogra and Peterson to take it to the next level and come out publicly and explain their side of the story, stating clearly that "Adrian Peterson no longer wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings".

I think any team that obviously forces a player to stay after that looks pretty bad.

And desperate.

Cowboys need to hold their water
Vikings will release AP

I wonder how much of his desire to leave the Vikings really is about his feelings being hurt over the lack of support they showed him. It appears he is just looking for a change and wants a fresh start on the second half of his career. He may realize that he will have to go back to frozen winters and play against stacked boxes all year. He lives in Texas and has always wanted to be a Cowboy. He sees us as a chance to run behind a great line on a team with Romo, Dez, Witten ect.

I am obviously biased because I am a cowboys fan but if I were him I would want to play for the Cowboys also.
Or maybe his feelings really are that hurt.

Yeah. I'm not sure. From off-hand things he says, it sounds like the people around him might be stirring the pot for him a lot and that could be contributing to him taking a hard line where he doesn't need to take one. I think it's likely his overwhelming preference is to play for Dallas here since it's home and the team he grew up with. He just doesn't have that luxury under the ridiculous deal he's got.

At the same time, Minny's not paying him the $44M. So the only question is whether or not they'll pay him to play for them this year or not. All AD can do is not budge on salary and make things uncomfortable and hope they release him. And suit up and play if they don't. But as a Minny fan, though, I'd be pretty turned off by the antics at this point. It makes the player look bad, if nothing else.

Great, great player though. I'd love to have him, despite all this nonsense.

Not a running back in this draft I would take over Peterson right now at the age of 30..

This is my point too. Maybe in 2016, Gurley with his knee at 100% and Peterson at age 31, you take Gurley. But this year, in terms of what a player can do on the field (setting aside cap hit for the moment), there is no RB in the draft (or, IMO, on any other NFL roster) that is the equal of Peterson.

I watched Walter Payton's entire career, and I do believe that in terms of strength, explosiveness, durability, mental toughness, God-given talent and physical conditioning, Peterson is one of those very few backs (indeed, players at any position) that are in the rarified air of Payton.

That said, no, I would not give up a no. 1 pick for Peterson. But if MN releases him, I'm all in for a 2-3 year contract.

yeah true true...but at least you know what you're getting with AP.

our high pick RB could very well be another felix jones....nobody really knows.

I'd take my chances on our team being better with an unknown draft pick and 10+ million in cap space to play with than just Peterson. It's not just the pick it's the big money too.

Of course you cant expect him to come for free in salary or compensation.
Sure he is a risk of declining production relative to his past production (in theory). The other side would wonder how good he would have been over the last 5 years if he was able to run behind this line. So maybe his talent reduction brought on by age is offset by playing behind a line that got Murray 1850 yards last year.

The reality is that the reason running backs have stopped being drafted in the 1st round of the draft is because they have the highest bust rate next to QB. Look at the last 5 years of runningbacks and look at all of the runners who ran for over 1k yards last year. They were veteran backs.
Its not as simple as saying "Go draft a young stud RB".
If it were the Colts wouldn't have signed Gore, the Bills wouldn't have traded for McCoy, the Eagles wouldn't have stolen Murray. They all would have just went out and drafted that stud RB everyone thinks can be had in the garbage rounds of the draft these days.

We are not in a position of absolutely needing AP. While I don't follow college football, everyone here and elsewhere all say its a great draft for RB's. We have options. IMO, there are too many moving parts that would all have to fall just right for AP to end up in Dallas.
