Archer: Almost impossible Cowboys get Peterson

@toddarcher Do you see any chance of Adrian Peterson coming to Dallas, and if so at what expense? #cowboysmail

@toddarcher: When you are around the Cowboys you learn to never rule anything out, so I will not speak absolutely on what could happen between the Cowboys and Peterson. My opinion? I don't see it happening. There are just too many hoops to go through and that "financial discipline," that they were praised for just a few weeks ago would go out the window. It would take premium picks (top three rounds) to get Peterson out of Minnesota, provided the Vikings are even willing to do it. The Cowboys would not be able to fill needs elsewhere by giving up multiple picks. Then there's the cash and cap space. They will restructure Tony Romo's contract just to account for Hardy's roster bonuses, draft picks, injury settlements, practice squad players and the in-season signings. They could designate Brandon Carr a post-June 1 cut and free up $8 million but that doesn't cover Peterson's base salary. A restructure of Jason Witten's contract wouldn't give them enough cash either. Plus, they could get a runner in the draft that could do quite well with this offensive line at a fraction of the cost. Again, is it impossible? No, but it's close.

The only way I see him coming here is if he is released and willing to sign an incentive-laden contract.

And I'm dating Scar Jo and have just signed a 100 million dollar contract to play short stop for the Yankees

It was never a pipe dream. And it was never a likelihood. It wasn't anything more than what happens when a superstar wants to play someplace and tries to get out of his contract to do so.

I do think the veteran RB market is too rich for our blood right now, though.

Would you take football knowledge from an individual that looks like this?

They aren't trading for him and taking on that salary, that is for sure. If AD forces his way to a release, I think they will be big players for him if he will take a deal in the $5-6 million range with some added incentives. I don't think its very likely but I'd hardly call it anywhere close to impossible.

Yes it was a pipe dream for so many here. Your disagreement is noted, but inaccurate.

How would acquiring Peterson impact Dallas' ability to hang on to their own players?

Dez
Martin
Frederick
Crawford
Lawrence
Hardy
Etc?

On The Break (Thursday) Nick Eatman and Steve Dennis both said they'd bet on Peterson becoming a Cowboy. They seemed to think that something has been brewing for some time. Dennis mentioned that AP's father was on the radio and he sounded like he was confident AP would end up here. Eatman and Dennis kept saying how much AP wants to be a Cowboy. They seemed to have inside info. Of course Dennis said that Murray wasn't going anywhere so take it for what it's worth.
