I know you didn't address this to me but I'll take a swing at it. It's simple - You take the highest rated defensive player on your board unless someone from offense has really fallen. That being said, I still don't think the Cowboys have 27 players with 1st round grades and rather than reach for a player with a 2nd round grade would jump at the chance to trade down 7-8 spots.

Okay, so if Gordon is rated a little higher than say, Kendricks, you would go ahead and take the LB? I don't like picking the BPA out of defense because you're cutting out half the team (even though I understand why you would want to do it). I might rule out a couple of positions (like TE and C) but the team needs a RB quite a bit.

I really like Kendricks a lot but LB is in pretty good shape and I think Gordon would light it up in Dallas. In other words, Gordon would be quite a bit higher on my own personal board and I would take the higher rated player in this example.

If there is a DL pretty close to Gordon's grade, then I might would go with the DL because they are usually impact guys in a 43 scheme and I like to strengthen the lines. But I would pretty much stick with BPA if I could.

Well that's the rub. I don't think Gordon will be there at 27 however. Considering how many RB's there are in this draft I'd take a trade down and get one in the 2nd.

No trading up at all if anything trade down and take bpa. Get a rb ol and all defense.

maybe not, but you could make similar arguments for several positions at several schools. Both Oregon and Florida State have produced several high picked QBs that have not panned out, but it would be foolish to use that as a reason to not pick them.

If they are running the same system that allowed the previous draft failures to get selected high then it would be even more foolish to not take that into consideration.

Gurley won't be coming here. I'd prefer him too, but it just isn't happening. Gordon would do well here. We have to see what the Bolts, Ravens, and Cards do. Gordon might not be available either.

Agree. With Gurley and Gordon gone at 27, only a WR would probably be the BPA from offense.

With the RB's gone, I probably would end up going defensive BPA as well. It looks like a CB will be BPA with the backs gone, which will probably be Kevin Johnson, Byron Jones, and maybe Marcus Peters (assuming he is on Dallas' board).

I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't take Grady Jarrett. I really like the player and he plays a spot on defense that I'm always willing to upgrade. IMO he is a fantastic DT for Marinelli's defense.

I don't think they will though. Maybe with a slight trade back but it does take two to tango (just ask Idgit and Alexander).

I think the RB thing is fascinating.

You have fans thinking it does not matter who runs the ball "behind this line", but then in the same ignorant breath will express a preference at which RB we might draft.

I have said it before and I will say it again.

We have to get this RB thing right from this draft. Biggest hole on the team and if we get the wrong runner, we take a huge step backwards.

I agree for the most part. The only thing I see different is that I don't think the step back will be as huge as all that... but I do think they need to get their bellcow back. If they get the right one, the Dallas offense could be a nightmare for opposing defenses and a dream for their own defense.

It is important. Very, IMO.

I think it is pretty important.

We gained respect last season because we imposed will on other teams.

You cannot do that slinging the ball around. We tried that before and no matter how good Romo can be, eventually it wears out.

We have to get this right. I cannot state that enough times. It is that important.

Only from those who were delusional to begin with. Nothing about the Peterson thing ever added up, from a fiscal or investment perspective.

Does anyone really believe anything a GM (or quasi GM in Stephen) says 9 days before the draft? Why would Stephen feel the need to go on record and tell the truth about his trading intentions? Or is it as likely that he is posturing to lower expectations, both of MIN and other potential bidders for AP? Or maybe even trying to deflect some scrutiny by the NFL as a result of the Team website stating that the Cowboys would have an interest in trading for AP (which has been alleged by Florio was tampering)? While I dont believe that we ultimately trade for AP, I dont listen to any public comments by the F.O. this time of year...
