Free is aging and has lost about 3 steps since he first started at tackle.

I had understood it as if he went undrafted, but nfl.com confirms what you're saying. So I agree in that case, I would have drafted him in the seventh.

Smith, Fred, and Martin didn't take over for top 10 talents.

Why couldn't this just be left with "Collins would be a GREAT RT to replace Free in a year or competition for Free in camp" - why does it have to result in Collins automatically being a starter? Why does this automatically turn into us criticizing a ******* top 5-10 talent on our line?

Ridiculous.

Imo, Leary is a better football player then Free.

Leary is excellent in the run game when he is covered and doesn't get pushed back when pass blocking.

I say we make Free take another pay cut and give Collins even more money.

He might be better than Free (though who would have thought Scandy could hold off Mo) all I am saying is Free is better than Leary and Collins seems like he will make a better OG than OT right away.

How about you go watch Free, or actually go see how he's graded out?

You're not "defending Collins". No one is saying Collins sucks, we are saying don't hand the job to him because the guy ahead of him is pretty damn good.

But hey, DMC and Williams is better than Murray to a lot here. So I'm not surprised by this. Downplay what great players did for us to hype up the new toys/young good rookie prospects.
 
Too good to be true. Not going to get too excited until he signs. For all we know, this could be one of many visits before he makes a decision. But man, obviously this would be an unexpected boost to the roster he signs.

It isn't about Collins. It's about how Dallas feels about Free. He's one of their leaders on offense and I don't think the Cowboys will give Collins any more of a real shot of replacing him than they gave Parnell.

There is loyalty and trust in play. I don't think they feel quite the same about Leary. I think they like him, but it doesn't appear that they made any move to try to sign him long term, which might have to do with the knee condition.

Like I said, if Collins can somehow get a shot at Free's job, I think it would be his, but I don't think we'll see him at RT with the starting group unless Free is sidelined by injury.
 
1st Round OT's have been a boom or bust position recently. Obviously we hit on Tyron, but there have been a lot of misses by other teams at OT.

Taking the starting job away from Free won't be easy.

Free looked god awful in 2013 and had to rotate with Parnell he was so bad. He didn't look good until an All-Pro RG was next to him and they slid both Frederick and Martin his direction on protection. This is also the guy that had to take a significant paycut to stay and received half the contract Parnell just got. Free is a solid player on a great OL and nothing more.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I dont see Free as a top 10 talent, I doubt many do. IMO Collins would be an enormous upgrade at RT. Based on how teams are recruiting him they do too.

Not to mention Leary played almost like an OT last year. They constantly helped in Frees direction with Frederick and Martin leaving Leary on an island and often times in space.
 
the more i think about this the more it makes sense for him to come here,he just needs to play well for 2 years and he will hit the jackpot.the only problem i see if he may have to play guard or he will have to beat out Free in TC.
