Just read he shares the same agent as Gregory, for whatever that's worth

I am not getting excited. But here is why I think this could happen. Collins knows he gets 3 years and $1.5 million from any team he chooses. He needs to play tackle on a good offensive line in order to maximize his value when he becomes a free agent in year 4. It doesn't matter whether he starts in year 1 or year 3 at tackle. As long as he starts at tackle (a higher paying position than guard). He gets that opportunity here certainly by Year 3 when Free is gone. Also, if he plays tackle on a team with a great offensive line, like ours, he has a better chance of looking good and getting that better contract. Sometimes it's as much about perception (being a key player on a great O line) than reality (being a great player on a bad O line). Just my 2 cents.

No - he would still be tied to the team that signed him. Restricted free agency doesn't come until a player has accrued three years of service time.

Right, 3 years for restricted. 4 years for unrestricted.

Yep. That's what I'm saying. The max for a UDFA is 3 years for $1.5 million. Any team would be stupid not to offer him the max. So it comes down to other things. You can't outbid for this guy. He has to want to play for you. That rules out any dysfunctional teams. Fortunately for us, we've been building a reputation the past few years as a family environment.

Dallas Cowboys UDFA contract -- 3 yrs / $1.5m

AT&T Stadium, Junior VP of Concession Food Procurement -- 3 yrs / $10.5m

Problem solved. Come on down La'el.

Come join one of the best offensive lines in the league and help take them to elite status or join the Bills and watch your team lose to Brady twice a year.

It's funny you mention this.

The Cowboys signed Don Perkins and Don Meredith prior to officially acquiring their rights to personal service contracts. Sounds like a fine time to revisit their old history.

Playing ol in Dallas is not like playing anywhere else. If he is a part of that unit he will be as big a star and household name as big as any lineman in the league. If you are trying to score a big second contract Dallas is the place. Ask Jeremy Purnell. He doesn't get that deal playing with any other team in the league.

Can we pretend we are the Patriots just this once and offer him an under the table deal and other illegal incentives?
