@AdamSchefter: Dolphins are giving QB Ryan Tanehill a six-year, $96 million extension that includes $45 million guaranteed, per league source.

Glad I'm not the one having to make some of these calls. That's a lot of dough for a guy who's a big questionmark still. You kind of have to do it, but, still...

Right. And to think back to all the howls, hand wringing, and gnashing of teeth when Romo signed his new deal. Romo's deal looks pretty good about now. And Cutler's with the Bears, not so good.

I don't know about everybody else, but the outcome for both of those deals was pretty obvious to me immediately. The Tannehill one is tougher, because you don't want to have to replace him but you do have to bet fairly large on him going forward now. We pretty much knew they were going to do this, but it's not a pleasant pill to swallow if I'm a Miami fan.

Right, big money for an average QB. It says more about the quality of QB's in the league than anything else.

That depends really Idgit. Think about the Cowboys post Aikman. That's where the Dolphins have pretty much bin since Marino if I remember correctly. I'm sure they are happy to lock up a half decent QB rather than floundering with me re inept QBs.

Yeah, they kind of have to do it. Because the probability that they would waste more resources to improve the position otherwise is pretty high. He's not great, but he's better than you can easily replace. It just stinks to give that guy $16M per in order to hold a place in line for you.

Pretty sad when Jay Fiedler is the best, by far, since Marino retired. That's when the HC had to deal with the "Dan Thing" and move on . . .

Tannehil isn't luck but he is up there. He has improved each year he has played and Miami fans seem happy. He seems like a Matt Ryan type player to me.

Not a bad deal at all. Could look really really cheap in a couple seasons.

Tannehill is a good QB who has steadily improved over the course of his career. 16 million is the going rate for a good QB, and Tannehill is already and can develope into a Pro Bowl QB

I see it as a situation to where right now he is worth the 16 million per, In 2 years or even by the end of this year he could be worth 20 per

If we could go from a Romo to a player like Tannehil we would be pretty fortunate. His deep ball sucks though lol.

The Kaepernick contract still has me scratching my head.
But it didn't have huge guarantees
