Dez asking for 17m a year

They just traded a 1st and acquired one of the largest TE contracts this offseason. They are already showing that they want to keep their run going.

Isnt that an argument against going out to get a wr?

It was Jim trotter. They were talking about wrs contracts coming up and teams being afraid to set the market. He said dez is asking for 17 but teams right now aren't wanting to give more than 13. Now people have been known just to make stuff up. Lol we've all seen it but that's what he said.

Many of the local DFW media have said they think he wants to be the highest paid WR which would be basically 17M per.

The 2nd biggest WR contract currently is 12M per and #1 is CJ at over 16M.

I would offer him 12.1M per take it or leave it.

Yep, then it's on him for not signing, not the Cowboys for not offering.

Funny this comes after Dez uses his only leverage. Its a negotiation tactic. Leak info, have fans react towards teams side. It's old but effective.

Yes, it is all aimed at getting the fans to over react and put pressure on the team.

Any fans that are over reacting to the Dez contract issue are therefore part of the problem.

I would just set the precedent as a team and be done with negotiations like i said earlier. He can sign the franchise tag or sit out a season and then get tagged again.

Problem is, Dez is effective only as long as Tony is. Once Tony is no longer, it's usually a two/three year process to develop a good QB if you are lucky. How long is Tony Tony?

Keep in mind Roc Nation is the same group that got Robbie Cano that insane $240M contract with Seattle, and this is pretty much exactly how they did it. The leaked an absolutely absurd offer - one even the Yankees laughed at - and hoped the fans with whom Cano was extremely popular would pressure the team to pay.

When the Yankees didn't, Jay Z hit the open market with Cano and found Another Idiot(TM) who would pay it. And I wonder if that's where some of the "Dez is going to skip games" rumors are coming from, hoping the Cowboys will not want to franchise a guy who is hinting he might half arse the season. That way they can get on the market and find Another Idiot(TM) who will pony up the $17M, thinking they 'stole' Dez from the Cowboys.

So either way the "ultimate team player" hurts the team. Either short term by holding out, potentially costing games toward home field advantage in the playoffs......or long term cap management and other team-member retention capabilities........ what a guy......

Dez is not on the market. He is franchised.

MLB doesn't have a franchise tag, salary cap or the limited shelf life of the NFL. If Dez wants to stick at 17/yr tagging him for 2 years and letting a soon to be 29 year old test the market is the way to go.

Meanwhile the Vikings fan board lights up with "dez not reporting and refuses to play for cowboys" threads.

I don't blame him for trying to get as much as he can. It's a business where the contracts aren't guaranteed. It's just business. With that said, I doubt he will hold out and I doubt he will find a better offer if he hits the open market. The Cowboys have all the leverage here, with potentially 2 years of the franchise tag looming over him.
