Can we stop with the "Taking care of family" line.

If you can't take care of your family with $12 million then you're a damn idiot. He wants a $50 million guarantee because like everyone else he would like as much money as he can possibly get, and as much as he thinks he is worth. And there is nothing wrong with that.

The line about needing the extra money because otherwise he can't take care of his family is mind numbingly ridiculous.

Well, when one says "take care of my family" to you and I it means our wife and our kids.

To an NFL player it means his mom, his dad, his stepdad, his stepmom, his Uncle Earl, his Uncle Fred, Aunt Louise, Aunt Connie, Aunt Sissy, cousins Earl Jr., Ray-Ray, Michael, Juanita, Rebecca, Tamela, Camela, Pamela, Julio, Henry, Hank, Baby mama #1,2,3 and illegitimate children 1-8.

I mean, when a guy gets drafted his entire family quits their jobs and jumps up and down screaming "We won the lottery!"

We are better with him, hell any top WR and believe it or not Dez is not the only WR in the NFL there are many who have produced like Jordy Nelson who are not asking for some outlandish contract. The ideal that Dez is the Dallas Cowboys is a joke, he is a member, he is a very good player but his 5 catch avg is not the be all for this team. Dallas should give him a fair offer to put him in the top 5 WR outside of that if he refuses then he can go pound sand. Dallas will survive and still has very good talent and a top OL to utilize the players we do have

I just heard a stat today from Mike & Mike that we were 9-0 I believe when Dez catches 5 or more balls. So apparently 5 works well considering how much attn he receives.

I really thought they'd have a deal done by now and avoid all this but I guess they're just going to sit around and potentially wreck the season instead. Great job by all parties on this stuff.

Dez, there is a new sheriff in town, his name is Stephen.

I would love to see you play here, but if you don't, I'm still a Cowboys fan. I'll be your biggest backer if your here, if not...bleh.

Personally I wish more than anything I had the talent to even be a Bill Bates on this team, but I don't. You, on the other hand, have the talent to play anywhere for the highest dollar amount you can obtain.

If you don't sign by tomorrow on thing is certain, I'm a bigger Cowboys fan than you could ever be and you're a money fan more than a Cowboys fan.

So, 20 years from now when your retired and thinking about the HOF, you can tell anyone you want that you are a Cowboys fan...But this fan will know I'm a bigger and better fan than you.

Enjoy your just rewards, hopefully it will be in Dallas, if not, you will just be another NFL receiver to me, not that you care.

Why are people so upset with Dez trying to get $$$. Its a business and he wants to negetiate. When you guys apply for a job, do you just accept the first offer you get? No, you always try to get as much as possible. Let him try to get as much as he can and see what happens. cant blame the guy for trying.

I kind of wish the Jones family would come out swinging.

"the CBA allows players to sit out most of the year but we do not value the types of players that do that. If Dez would prefer to sit out most of the year then play football, then we were completely wrong about his dedication to this sport. As a franchise, we refuse to be blackmailed or coerced by players in such a fashion. As much as we want Dez to be a part of not just the 2015 season, but the cowboys for life, we will not be forced into an offer we are not comfortable with based on these threats. We strongly advise Dez to stop using the media to strengthen his position, it is not a ploy that will help with the Dallas Cowboys."

I don't think anyone begrudges him for trying to get the most money he can. I also don't think anyone says he shouldn't try any means to get that contract. But if it comes to the point where he starts to miss mandatory practices and then games over this, he loses any goodwill at that point.

I can understand if the Cowboys were lowballing him....... like $8MM a year or something offensive like that. But from all indications, their offer, while maybe not great isn't awful either. Plus there is a $13MM tag sitting there. So its not like the Cowboys are totally undercutting him here.

So fine Dez. Threaten to sit out if you think that will get the deal done in the next 36 hours. But the moment you carry through with your threat........... see ya.

My thoughts as well. Once July 15th comes and goes, that's it. Can't sign an extension till the offseason. I'm all for him trying to get as much as he can. However, when he starts making threats (and goes through with it)about skipping games over a contract situation that can't be brought up till the following year, it doesn't look good for him imo.

As stated previously, yea there is a risk in playing on a franchise tag due to injury, the same amount of risk playing on the last year of any contract for any player.

I'm a Cowboy fan first above all but it's bothersome that Romo got paid like an elite QB where his performance to that point was top 6-10. Dez is undoubtedly a top 3 receiver and should be paid as such. I'm a fan of both but all the drawn out "concerns," negotiating, hardballing seems crazy for such a dedicated Cowboy. Tony plays QB I get that but still. Let's get this done.

How is it bothersome?

One, as you said Romo is QB. They just get paid more, are usually locked up sooner, largely because teams view them as the most vital cog on a team.

Two, Dez is on a franchise tag that would make him the 2nd highest paid WR this coming season.

Three, rumors are the deal offered by the Cowboys would make him one of the top paid WRs in the NFL. Bryant apparently wants more.

Four, Romo has never been an issue off the field. He's never really shown instances of lack of maturity, etc.

The contract Dallas offered him would make him the 2nd highest paid receiver so they are trying to pay him as such.

So let me get this right. they let Murray go because they refuse to pay him what he thought he was worth. now they are refusing to pay Dez what he thinks he is worth? those guys went out and earned it. No Murray and no Dez. no playoffs. you guys ready to be sitting at home again come playoff time?

Dez is not the choir boy Romo has proven to be. that certainly matters when doling out long term contracts.

If Romo needed a babysitter for the last few years, your comparison would be more apt

Sure there is. You can restructure things however you want. It's a built-in system to give owners a way to control themselves, while still allowing them to adjust when absolutely necessary.

Denver signed everybody under the sun last year. Washington has been doing it for years.
