Dez is not the one blowing the season up. if the season goes bad.put the blame where it belongs. on Jerry and his son. they could have paid this man and moved on. instead they low ball him and pissed him off. that's on them not Dez.

Nope, that's simply not true. The FO is focused on the big picture of winning a trophy while Dez just wants what he wants no matter how it affects the team. Dez puts his wants above the team goals. The franchise tag is hardly low balling Dez and by you saying so shows your lack of ability to anchor an argument in facts. If Dez is a team guy he would sign the tag and get ready for TC. Instead he is threating to blow up the season for the whole team for his own selfish reasons. There is nothing wrong with getting all you can but once that offer has been made you have to know when it's time to sign. If Dez is serious about skipping TC and games then he should have never showed up at the mini camp.

No it's completly on Dez if he sits out half the season or pouts all season. The Cowboys are well within their rights to tag him. He isn't the first guy to get tagged, and it's his responsibility if he signs that tag, to go out there and be a professional and earn the 12 million he will be paid for the season.

You obviously didn't read your own article beyond the headline. The writer uses the term "Salary Cap Myth" then goes into great detail explaining precisely how he worked within the framework of the salary cap.

It is a very interesting article. If you take the time to read it - which you obviously didn't - you would realize that once you got past the headline, it supports what I am saying.[/quote]

Dez needs to understand that it was his union that agreed to franchise tags. It was his same union that agreed to end contract talks after July 15th.

Stephen and Jerry are merely taking advantage of the rules in place to protect themselves.

If Dez sits out games and forfeits $750,000 for each game, that says about all we need to know about him. Why would the Cowboys then trust him with $40 million guaranteed?

If he wants a long-term deal, he needs to meet them in the middle somewhere. If he won't, then franchise tag it is.

Again, I am so proud of the way the Cowboys are handling this.

Uh, wrong.

Thus, while ample cap room protects against future charges, the lack of cap room rarely prevents present moves. Teams often use “lack of cap room” as an excuse to not retain or to release players. The truth, of course, is that if they really want to keep or add players, they will, damn the future consequences.

Dez is not the choir boy Romo has proven to be. that certainly matters when doling out long term contracts.

If Romo needed a babysitter for the last few years, your comparison would be more apt

True and I get this .. but we had no issue as he outperformed his prior contract and rackied up 16td's en route to our best record since the mid 90's... "baby-sitters" and all. Love him or hate him, he's the same guy now (by all accounts more mature) and it's the moment of truth. My comment has no "funny business" to it. I love Romo. If this is all about off the field stuff what are you looking into? What are you investigating? If he plays under the tag are we sitting here next summer in the same spot talking about the fact that Dez happens to have a certain past and reputation? Romo was OVERPAID (especially at that time) and it's easily justified as "what the market commands."... I don't know what Dez has been offered. If he's being offered #2 WR money.. hopefully we come to an agreement.

I think it's true that nobody complained about that but it's also true that the Cowboys were the organization that took a chance on him. If we don't draft him, he makes even less money for his efforts I'm guessing. It's a two way street IMO.

They wouldn't do that because if they don't tag them they lose any level of compensation. It has nothing to do with a fear someone would snap them up. It has everything to do with the fact that the CBA has created a scenario where a team can get draft pick compensation if another team wants to overpay. It would be stupid business to not tag those guys.

These teams have no intention of signing either player long term in my humble opinion. I hoped a deal would get done but now can't foresee it happening. The intent all along is to franchise them both for two years or pray they accept far less than market value. Don't see Dez or DT on their squads after 2016 and still see the other owners throwing monster deals at both of them which will make the CJ outlier talk all fools gold talk from the respective franchises because they didn't want to pay them anyway. Just my opinion on this matter.

Why do you say it's far less then market value?

My thought is that open market value for each of them is around 14.5mil to 15mil per year and anywhere from 35-40 guaranteed. If reports are true that Dallas is offering 13mil and 20 plus guaranteed...that's far below what I think the other owners would pay for the two players.

That might be true but there is no proof, that I know of, to support those numbers. I guess it's all in how you value 13 Million and 20 Guaranteed.

100% agree. that's why they may as well trade Dez to the Jags for their first round pick in the coming draft. the bridge has been burned here. i don't expect the same Dez this year. may as well move on now.

You keep on saying sign him, how much would you give? He is asking for more than Megatron money, would you give that to him?

True...there is no proof as of right now. But, I believe if both teams figured the market won't be greater than what they are offering, then they would allow the players to hit the open market to see their worth. Then ask if the players would give them a chance to match. Similar to what the Boys did with DeMarco Murray. It wouldn't happen because they know there will be multiple owners paying them slightly less than CJ money. I would love to see both teams agree not to franchise them next season and see how it plays out. Pretty sure no way the teams would since we all know they would be off the market second and third respectively behind only Russell Wilson, Phillip Rivers or Eli Manning (if hell freezes over and their teams don't extend them).

This formula being used by Dallas and Denver will likely be used by Atlanta (with Julio Jones) and Cincy (with A.J. Green) next season. Franchise them twice and then let them hit the open market. Hopefully the players don't get injured at all under the tags and ultimately receive the security they seek in a long term deal.

I don't agree. I believe that if Dez was an unrestricted FA, then that might actually be what would happen. Because he is a Restricted FA, no team is going to do that. I don't know that it necessarily means they are afraid that other teams would give them CJ type money.

Dallas is willing to go year to year. Dez can't seem to handle that even though it would be the best outcome for him.

If DAL tags him the next 2 years for 28m, Dez will be a UFA in 2017. If he then gets another 25m+ in guarantees that is over 53m in 3 years.......... CHa-CHing......He could even re-sign with DAL in 2017

If he is really worried about getting hurt between now and March 2016 when he can sign the 15.4m franchise tag, then get 10m in insurance for 100-200k. That money is tax free and is like getting paid 16m.

That is what everyone is missing. If it is cheaper to keep tagging WRs that means their value is way below what they want it to be.

Even with the CJ contract skewing things, the WR tag is still very reasonable. The average of the Top 5 WRs is still just 12.8m.

It's all about the Guaranteed money. 40 million Dollars worth of Guaranteed money, and i believe Dez would sign that right now. if it's true the cowboys have only offered 20 million in Guaranteed money. i don't blame Dez one bit for not signing it.
