I don't agree. I believe that if Dez was an unrestricted FA, then that might actually be what would happen. Because he is a Restricted FA, no team is going to do that. I don't know that it necessarily means they are afraid that other teams would give them CJ type money.

I'm referencing "IF" the Cowboys and Broncos allowed the two WR's to become UFA's...several owners will pay them big money.

It's all about the Guaranteed money. 40 million Dollars worth of Guaranteed money, and i believe Dez would sign that right now. if it's true the cowboys have only offered 20 million in Guaranteed money. i don't blame Dez one bit for not signing it.

No one knows what's being offered right now but the players, agents, and Cowboys.

Demaryius wanted more than CJ, I'm sure Dez wants a comparable figure. I'm talking about $50million + guaranteed.

That's ridiculous. Honestly it sounds like some people want to just give him the rest of the room under the cap for the next 5 years.

My thought is that open market value for each of them is around 14.5mil to 15mil per year and anywhere from 35-40 guaranteed. If reports are true that Dallas is offering 13mil and 20 plus guaranteed...that's far below what I think the other owners would pay for the two players.

Jerry and Steve need to get that offer up and done tonight.

True...there is no proof as of right now. But, I believe if both teams figured the market won't be greater than what they are offering, then they would allow the players to hit the open market to see their worth. Then ask if the players would give them a chance to match. Similar to what the Boys did with DeMarco Murray. It wouldn't happen because they know there will be multiple owners paying them slightly less than CJ money. I would love to see both teams agree not to franchise them next season and see how it plays out. Pretty sure no way the teams would since we all know they would be off the market second and third respectively behind only Russell Wilson, Phillip Rivers or Eli Manning (if hell freezes over and their teams don't extend them).

This formula being used by Dallas and Denver will likely be used by Atlanta (with Julio Jones) and Cincy (with A.J. Green) next season. Franchise them twice and then let them hit the open market. Hopefully the players don't get injured at all under the tags and ultimately receive the security they seek in a long term deal.

Send Rick Flair and the Horsemen in to get this deal done. They know how to get stuff done. Whoo !!!!

And I don't blame the Cowboys for protecting themselves with the franchise tag if he won't take less.

He could have $60 million in cash if he'd just play this right. If he hadn't blown through the first $11 million, maybe he'd look at things a bit differently.

You literally JUST said, nobody knows what proposals are being offered and then turn around make the assumption dez is expecting calvin johnson+ money.

Not sure it's about having blown through his money. I think it has everything to do with potential injury occurring during your contract year. If that occurs, then the player will never again have a chance to see the big money they expect or desire.

One thing nobody talks about is Dez' lingering back issues.

It's hard enough for a QB to manage a tricky back. It's quite a bit more difficult for a wide receiver.

Here is a question, and it's probably already been asked and answered. I've seen it discussed and answered both ways. If Dez were to sit out the entire season. Never happen but for the sake of discussion, if that happened. Would he still get 120% if he were then franchised the following season?

Which is a FANTASTIC reason to franchise him.

How'd you like to be $40 million in the hole for a receiver that can't play anymore?

Dez has had multiple injuries, and the one that is most troubling is his recurring back spasms. Receivers can't play with those, and they tend to NEVER get better.

Not from what I understand.

So he wants less than Demaryius Thomas? Because that's what Demaryius wants.

And yeah, I said assuming exact figures is stupid because no one knows. We do know, however, what a player that will garner a similar contract to Dez wants and expects from the negotiation.

I understand that you are dealing with a highly unlikely turn of events but honestly, I don't even see it as an "IF" because no team would ever do that. It's more like never happen. We don't know what the market would look like for either WR if they were unrestricted. We can hazard a guess but there is no info to support what they might be worth. However, the overriding factor here is that it would never happen. Jerry would have to fire himself as GM for incompetency were that ever to happen.

Chris Mortensen just posted an article on ESPN that outlines the fact that Dez has a lot of leverage. July 15 is only a deadline for long term deals,... One year contracts are not precluded. Dez could potentially pull an Emmitt Smith and get a bigger one year deal AND make the Cowboys include language not to tag him next year.

What position would we be in if we started 0-2?
