What is the best Dallas sports talk radio?

I think most of the radio stations that cover the Cowboys stink. I want to hear fans call in, not chit-chat about off topic stuff.

You said it. Tired of their off topic stuff.

If they ran it like a Philly sports station, with fans calling in, it would be the best. To bad they aren't smart enough to see it.

Dallas area sports radio is simply brutal. I went the same route as you, listening via apps, but I just couldn't stand it. You're better off listening to the Philly sports radio, they talk about the Cowboys at least 50% of the time and their pain is so sweet.

I would hate that. I don't give two craps about what Jim in Plano thinks about the Cowboys. The reason I listen to The Ticket is to hear their radio personalities talk about things I want to hear about.

Yes, but unless you have the game on a dvr it's not in sync.

Thanks. Yea I've got a dvr so I wanted to sync it up with Brads radio call.

I've been looking for a way to do this while being out of the local radio in Dallas' range. I'd much rather listen to Brad instead of the Fox or CBS or ESPN clowns.

This is actually a tough question.

If you were moving to Dallas, it would be easy. Set your dial on The Ticket and get immersed in the "inside" nature of the station, and you'll have a lot of laughs and still get your Cowboys talk and breaking news. It's the top-rated AM station in the United States for a reason (it's on FM, too). However, if you're just going to be here for a couple of days, it's not the place to go. You can't get up to speed quickly enough with all the jargon and back stories to know what's going on. They break all the rules of radio in that regard, but it's why they've been so immensely successful. Norm Hitzges and Bob Sturm are the ultra serious sports guys on the station. Very nice balance, although I feel changes coming soon. The Hardline in the afternoon is losing its way a bit, and I find myself punching out of it more and more. The morning show is still phenomenal.

The Fan is just a joke. The morning and afternoon shows literally try to copy everything The Ticket does, even the comedy stuff. And it falls so flat. It's sad and embarrassing, and I don't know how they look at themselves in the mirror. The mid afternoon show is OK, but it ironically has former Ticket employees on it. Mike Bascik is excellent for baseball talk because he's a former player who has a nice understanding of what radio is about. The ONLY reason The Fan is still around is because they carry the Cowboys. They do have Brian Broaddus, Chuck Cooperstein, and Mike Fisher, who are all great listens, but they don't have actual shows on the station other than weekend stuff. If they had (or wanted) their own daily shows, it would be a much better station.

ESPN is hit and miss. Mosley and Cowlishaw are a very good listen in the afternoon. I recommend that for the person passing through because they'll stay heavy on sports only for the most part. I also like Mark Friedman (another former Ticket guy) and Steve Dennis in the midafternoon, especially if they stay with Dennis. They did have Ian Fitzsimmons, who is the biggest know-nothing I've ever heard on sports radio. Loves to hear himself talk, but never has a new opinion on anything. He basically reads the sports page to you. He and Jeff "Skin" Wade on The Fan are obnoxious d-bags.

Hope that helps.

About 1 out of every 500 call-ins knows anything about sports. I can't listen to that for two minutes. And the personalities up there just scream into the microphone like Guido the whole time. It's awful.

So basically, there is no "best" sports radio station in the DFW area. :D You basically have to pick and chose which station you prefer to listen to about what and when. I'm all over the dial but hardly ever miss Norm (except when he is talking about horse racing/spreads) on the Ticket.

You want to hear about their love life..or lack of?

Hey guys and gals, my daily commute has just increased to 3 hours round trip for the next 3-months. That means a lot of sports talk for me. But I leave in the Philly area and don't want to be subject to that mess. So I've downloaded two apps that will allow me to listen to Dallas area sports talk.

It seems to be 3 sports talk stations in the Dallas area. The Fan at 105.3, The Ticket at 1310 and ESPN at 103.3. So here are the questions;

In your opinions, what is the best a.m. drive time show and what is the best p.m. drive time show.

It also seems that there isn't one app that streams all three stations. So I have Radio.com for "The Fan" and Simple Radio for "The Ticket" and "ESPN Dallas". Does anyone if there is one streaming service that carries all three stations?

The Ticket. /thread

What, like how many times they wear their jeans before they wash them? Where they went on vacation? Those are some of the things I've heard them talk about.......all during their show. At Jim from Plano will talk about sports.

No, a lot of fans who ask questions that don't know get schooled. There are a few radio guys who yell, not all of them.

Guido?

I listen to Shan and RJ's Top 7 at 7 on The Fan, and if he's on at 7:30, I listen to Mike Fisher, also on The Fan.

Other than that, I don't listen to any of them.

Yeah, after this off season, Fish needs to walk straight up to his sources and kick them squarely in the nuts.

Fish is fine. While Schefter and Florio kept saying that there was a video showing Dez beating up a woman in a Wal-Mart parking lot, Fish kept saying that there was no such video, and called such video "a unicorn."

The ticket has been around the longest and is by far the best sports station in Dallas, and it isn't even close. The other 2 are cheap imitations with the Fan being the worst.

So he called the Dez video a unicorn. One witty comment that was finally on the right side of what really happened, doesn't take anything away from the numerous times that he was 100%, unequivocally incorrect about what Dallas would do.

Not only was he repeatedly wrong about things, but he tried to tease the fan base with snippets of his "insider info" and get them to pay for what he was shoveling.

I mean, look... everyone is wrong from time to time, but Fish was consistently bad this off season. What is worse is that he never learns caution when throwing out his "insider info" either... he just keeps shoveling it out and trying to charge for it. Then when he's wrong, just moves on like he never said it to begin with.

Like I said, he needs to have a pow-wow with his insider guys and tell them to either be more sure or don't throw it out there because it seriously hurt his credibility.

One unicorn can't change all of that.

Sponsors dictate some of this.

Say what we want, but Dallas sports radio destroys most markets as far as ratings go

The Fan, for example, is the 7th highest rated sports radio station in the country.
Nothing in Philly is anywhere close

Fans calling in is the absolute worst most unlistenable radio there is.

This is a two way thing though. I agree, don't want to listen to most fans. But also the talk show hosts have their agendas.
Sometimes Norm goes on a rant if a caller calls him out or disagrees with him.
The ticket at times seems to go through this we hate the cowboys type talk. Like their feelings were hurt the fan became the flagship radio station after they "claimed" is was a mutual agree, net the station and the team agreed to part ways.
They seem to have got over that this past year. But winning cures a lot of things.

If They have a call in segment at times, but it's just enough, do not need to revolve an entire show with it. Rather the fan or the ticket

I still prefer the ticket over the fan most of the time.
