What is the best Dallas sports talk radio?

I want to thank everyone for their responses and opinions. It looks as though there isn't a consensus on who's the best. That was my initial thought this past week as I was vigorously channel surfing.

It's a shame but I must say that the Philly Sports Talk stations are so much better then Dallas. The two major players are hardcore sports talk. Very little fluff. They take callers all day and give those callers 2-minutes to speak their peace. I assumed this would be sports talk Dallas also. Guess I was wrong.

Thanks to viman96 for suggesting the Cowboys app and to Eric_H for pointing me towards podcast subscriptions. This is the way I'm going to go until the media runs out, then I guess I'm back to channel surfing until new podcast content is available.

I've been listening to local Dallas sports talk radio since the Ticket started in the early nineties.

Originally the Ticket continued to be the best even after 103.3 ESPN and 105.3 The Fan started broadcasting; however, in recent years, especially since 105.3 The Fan became the Cowboys Flagship station, it has been the best overall.

The Fan is the only one with a live evening broadcast, but now they are often broadcasting Rangers baseball games in that time slot. The Ticket replays segments from earlier in the day and ESPN has some national shows on in the evening.

The Fan's worst show is the early morning show. The Ticket early morning guys are somewhat funny but not much on keeping up with the detail of sports except bicycle racing because they have a guy that although married to a woman, appears to be gay and follows bicycle racing.

When driving I flip between stations depending on their guests. I rarely end up on ESPN or stay there long.

The Fan hosts, other than the early morning guys stay updated on the details surrounding the Cowboys (and other sports). They spend a lot of time hanging around the teams and the guys from the Cowboys website like Broaddus and Mickey come on their station because they are the Flagship. Some of the guys like one guy on the G-Bag late morning show spends time watching film with Broaddus. Ben and Skin are a little silly, but they have the best access to the team and put in more effort and than most guys on the other stations.

On the Ticket Bob Sturm is excellent, but you can find most of his stuff in his blogs. Norm is the old guy in the late mornings. He is often silly and loses credibility because he thinks Rick "Goose" Gosselin is the man. He prefers to talk about gambling odds, horse racing and his vacations over current Cowboys details.

Summary: There is some silliness in all local sports talk radio. The really serious guys don't last in that format unless paired with a comedian. Overall the Fan is doing the best job of combining real sports information with the required humor with the exception of their early morning guys who are not good at either.
On point.
I fell out when you wrotte about the married gay guy:lmao:

Out of the radio stations, I think the fan is the only one at training camp. But I think the Cowboys Podcast are the way to go for the most Cowboys news.

Yes I was very disappointed when listening. Found my self changing stations just to be disappointed again.

New York, Boston and DC has the same format as Philly. I just don't get. Those areas are always viewed as the must passionate fans. The Dallas Sports Talk stations management doesn't give the Dallas area fans real opportunities to display and to revel those cities passion.

Pretty much my thoughts as well. I like the fan more than the other stations, but I can also understand how people would be put off by it's silliness at first, and never really give it a fair shake.

Like the name "gbag nation" is terribly off putting, but it has the best vibe of any sports talk radio in the area (after you give it a few listens). The 5 guys that contribute to that show all bring nice, different value to the table and it's just a really good dynamic.

Ben and Skin are probably the most talented personalities in the area and can get the best guests in the area... I mean, mark Cuban showed up and just hung out for 2 hours one random day.

I guess it all depends on what you like in your sports talk show. I like a little humor.

The morning show is below average though. Might be one of the worst shows in the metroplex.

Are there only three sports frequencies in the MetroPlex?

In the old days I tried to listen to Norm on 570, Randy on 820, and Brad on 1080.

Central Oklahoma has at least 7 stations.

Do they broadcast Brad Sham's radio call live during the games on the Cowboys app?

I live in the greater Boston area and stream the Ticket a lot. Love it from its cowboys coverage to its comedy. The morning show, Dunham and Miller, is excellent and entertaining.

Agree. We need to get a chance to rep our team and debate our positions with the Radio Heads.

CowboysZone ULTIMATE Fan
TC and the regular season, the fan and ticket are the best, and each has its good and bad.
The Ticket has its own app, called sportsday and the fan can be found on the DFW CBS local app

Norm is on from 10 to noon CST, all sports, but can be a bit trying with one of his rants.
The Musers in the morning, talk a lot of stuff, but get to know their schedule you can listen to their sports talk. Usually, all CST times, 6:55, 7:15, 8:40 you can get fake Jerry.
9:30, David Moore with camp reports.
During the season on Thursday they have Troy Aikman.

Bob Sturm and Dan McDowel from noon to three. Bob is great, but Dan is the time waster. When they say they will talk Cowboys, he starts talking other crap. So you get half the time allotted. Or used to seem that way. I don't listen much to them lately.

Morning guys on the fan are getting better, but you have a Commanders fan and a jets fan transplant broadcasting Cowboys news. After 10 is better when they are off the air.

I will change the channels regular surfing for any news or interviews.

Seems 103.3 ESPN Dallas does not have a local show anymore. Used to get Michael Irvin and Mate Newton on.
Randy Gallowaste was o at 3, best thing that ever happened, he retired. ESPN radio app docents even have 103.3 on there app anymore, or wasn't on last season anyway. I haven't checked lately.

I never listened much in the late afternoon or evening shows, so can't comment there.

Cowboys app all the way. Sturm is good on the ticket and the fan is good on Sundays with fishnato. I'm not a radio nut but I know terrible radio when I hear it and it lives on 103.3 ESPN.

Hey guys and gals, my daily commute has just increased to 3 hours round trip for the next 3-months. That means a lot of sports talk for me. But I leave in the Philly area and don't want to be subject to that mess. So I've downloaded two apps that will allow me to listen to Dallas area sports talk.

It seems to be 3 sports talk stations in the Dallas area. The Fan at 105.3, The Ticket at 1310 and ESPN at 103.3. So here are the questions;

In your opinions, what is the best a.m. drive time show and what is the best p.m. drive time show.

It also seems that there isn't one app that streams all three stations. So I have Radio.com for "The Fan" and Simple Radio for "The Ticket" and "ESPN Dallas". Does anyone if there is one streaming service that carries all three stations?

Dallas area sports radio is simply brutal. I went the same route as you, listening via apps, but I just couldn't stand it. You're better off listening to the Philly sports radio, they talk about the Cowboys at least 50% of the time and their pain is so sweet.

LMAO! So true. They are so obsessed with the Cowboys it's ridiculous and I love listening to every minute of it.

But I do need to get my Cowboys fix in.
