Archer: Cowboys will be looking at RBs

Literally the only FA Rb's who havent been linked to the Cowboys previously are:

Shonn Greene
Knowshon Moreno
Ben Tate

And I thought at one point Shonn Greene's name was mentioned.

Ben Tate had a tryout.

Ben Tate had a tryout.

I would be on board with that. As I mentioned in a previous thread, he'd been a 4.3-plus guy his first three years until his 3.1 year last year. He's also shown he can do it with a decent workload (180 range).

He'd also give us a potential dirty yards back. Quite frankly, I'd feel better about this acquisition than I do McFadden. He hasn't had near the wear and tear or injury issues and has a more proven track record.

The tweet doesn't limit it to FA running backs... I think a trade for guys like Bryce Brown, Christine Michael, etc. are more likely. Or someone like Pierre Thomas. But not Ben Tate. If Houston hasn't reached out to him after Foster went down and having him on the roster two years ago, you know he has nothing left.

i don't see why the assumption would be that we're looking at guys to compete for a top 3 slot....with Gus injuring his shoulder this is almost guaranteed to be someone who can spell the top 3 guys throughout the rest of camp and be someone to carry the bulk of the load in the 4th preseason game along with Seastrunk

Only thing that would give me pause is the diva act he pulled last year in Cleveland over workload, and the fact that his old team, the Texans, has a glaring need at RB, and hasn't brought him in.

Tate can play.

He ran into an offensive collapse last year in Houston and they moved away from running because they fell behind so often.

In a balanced attack like ours..he could see a renewed career.

Tough runner..north south and lowers his shoulder.

Do it.

That's my thinking
They are needing to replace Gus and at this point that's all they are looking for
There may be a time they look at a top 3 type RB but I suspect that will be some time after they see the top 3
Can't see them looking for a replacement for any of those guys before they at least play a pre season game
And if they sign a vet that very well could be much later than some think
Like maybe after the first game since the ones people want are vets

I have a slight hope that Dallas might still end up trading with St. Louis for Tre Mason.

I know, I know... St. Louis won't want to do that until they know Gurley is going to be able to carry the load this year, but Fisher loves to trade and stockpile draft picks. Plus, the Rams (under Fisher) and the Cowboys seem to always work well together on trades.

For the right player(s) and/or pick(s), I think Fisher would do it.

Oh, alright... you all are probably right... it is a pipe dream.

I can hope though.
