These are the only guys I want to see play and the guys in red, a series or two at most

DL Randy Gregory
DL Russell, Ryan
DL Coleman, Davon
DL Bishop, Ken
DL Edwards, Lavar
DL Obada, Efe
DL Gardner, Ben

I just wanna see Randy Gregory because... he's been pretty dang exciting to watch so far. Dallas may have the steal of the draft getting him at 60.

I would like to see Weeden play at least the first half. Why are we coddling this dope?

It's not coddling, just simply playing Weeden with 3rd stringers and several guys who will be out of the NFL against other players who are 3rd string and future Uber drivers does not help him improve nor tell the coaching staff anything they do not know about him.

I get that. But he still needs the work.

This is NOT a prediction thread, just an update on the current roster.

It would be convenient if this could remain near the top of a thread until after the cut to 53.

It would also be convenient if there is a way to have the cuts at the top of a thread. I've fumbled around a few times searching to page 4 of a thread to find a partial list of the cuts and then to another page for the other cuts.

There is a transaction thread that details cuts etc. Please, feel free to post rosters in posts there.

Do not start roster threads and call it a different name. I admire the flank attack but sneakiness doesn't work.

However it started, this thread is now primarily about predicting the roster. We can't have multiple roster prediction threads as it will drown out the rest of the news and commentary.

It will be merged with the official thread.

My roster thread should have been merged in that transactions thread. It was not a prediction thread.

Why can't the roster and cut information be posted at the top of a thread somewhere? Years ago there were sticky threads with the cut information at the top of the thread where it was accessible without fumbling through multiple pages of user posts.

My thread was not a "flank attack" on your world. It was an information thread with information that I had to search for and couldn't find all together anywhere including dc.com. I had to go one place to find the 1st five cuts then another place to find the other cuts and IR/PUP/NFI moves. I also had to research why the dc.com roster still had 76 players listed.

Is it not possible to modify post #1 in a thread now to keep updates at the top?

Take this to PMs if you want to discuss it. There will be no more public questioning of how the staff moderates.

Only change I'm making from mine for final cuts is I'm dropping Gibson and keeping Brinkley.

OK, assuming no trades and nobody getting picked from other cuts, here's the 53 in my eyes. Watch the waiver wire closely for a QB, RB, or S. I think it's too hopeful to expect an OT to be released.

It's going to be interesting to see who gets Hardy and McClain's spots. Those two guys will have their full season salary guaranteed, and then they'll have to be waived, so expect young, cheap guys to take these roles.

The BOLDED are the guys who surprised and earned a spot with their play.

Offense (24)
QB (2) - Romo, Weeden
RB (4) - Randle, McFadden, Dunbar, Clutts
WR (6) - Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Street, Whitehead, HARWELL
OL (8) - Smith, Leary, Frederick, Martin, Free, Collins, Bernadeau, Weems
TE (4) - Witten, Escobar, Hanna, Swaim

Defense (26)
DE (5) - Lawrence, Mincey, Gregory, Russell, Gardner (Hardy)
DT (5) - TCrawford, Hayden, JColeman, Crawford, TMcClain
LB (7) - Lee, Hitchens, Wilson, Gachkar, Wilber, SMITH, Brinkley, (RMcClain)
CB (5) - Carr, Claiborne, Patmon, White, Jones
S (4) - Church, Wilcox, McCray, SCOTT

Specialists (3)
K - Bailey
P - Jones
LS - Ladoeceur

Thoughts.....
  • This was so relatively easy. That's because Dallas is good.
  • I think Tim Scott, Nick Harwell, and Ben Gardner pushed Ken Bishop and Jeff Heath off the roster this time. However, the team may opt for Bishop over McClain because of salary. All three are vulnerable to an interest in a released player elsewhere however.
  • What is saving Brinkley is the coach's complete lack of trust of Rolando McClain when he comes back. Too many whens, ifs, and buts with that guy. They can't count on him.
  • Jenkins has them confused, too. He should be better than Harwell, but I think they like and trust Harwell to be a better special teams contributor.
  • Tim Scott looks like a valuable special teams guy.
  • Whitehead earned the punt returner spot last night. Now sit Beasley down, please.
  • I wanted to pencil anybody but Weems in as the swing tackle. I think Collins would ultimately be that guy if it came down to it for long stretches.
  • Pay attention to the QB cuts. Weeden could be in trouble this week, or they could just add a third QB and subtract elsewhere.

Not bad, but I don't see them keeping Harwell, if they go with 6, it will be Jenkins. I think they keep 1 more DT and either Brinkley is gone or one of the Safeties.. McCray or Scott. And I don't see both of them making the team over Heath. I would hope we bring in a QB and maybe a Vet swing tackle after the cut downs.

QBs (2) Romo, Weeden
At this point, I'd probably go with Showers on the practice squad, but I could live with Vaughan being given another redshirt year to see if he can develop

RBs (5) McFadden, Randle, Dunbar, Johnson, Clutts
Yes, I'm on the Gus bus. Although he's slow, I think he provides something the other backs do not, the ability to pick up those dirty yards. Now, both he and Malena were effective against Houston, so their success might have more to do with that defense, but I believe Johnson shows good vision, good movement skills and good power. Speed is all that he's lacking.

TEs (3) Witten, Escobar, Hanna
In order to keep Gus, I'm cutting Swaim and putting him on the PS. He impressed in the San Francisco game then disappeared, so I think we can risk moving him over and letting him develop.

WRs (5) Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Street, Whitehead
Whitehead was most likely going to make the team before Thursday's game, but he not only cemented his spot, but probably earned the right to be the primary returner.

OL (8) Smith, Leary, Frederick, Martin, Free, Bernadeau, Collins, Weems
I'm going light here because I don't think any other linemen deserve to be kept. For that matter, I don't think Free deserves to be kept. Green being on PUP also allows less linemen to be carried to start the season, although I could see Dallas keeping Wetzel until Green's return. Gibson should go on the PS for the opportunity to develop. I might even keep McDermott on the PS.

DL (11) (Hardy), Mincey, T. Crawford, Hayden, Lawrence, Gregory, J. Crawford, T. McClain, Russell, Coleman, Bishop, Gardner
Opposite of the offensive line, I'm going heavy here because there are so many players to like. Gardner and Bishop are probably the bubble guys, but I'd keep Bishop over McClain. (I'd even keep him over Hayden, but that's not going to happen.)

LBs (7) (R. McClain), Lee, Hitchens, Gachkar, Wilber, Wilson, Smith, Brinkley
Brinkley is still a question mark to me, but he has played well enough the last couple of weeks to maybe stick around until McClain returns.

DBs (9) Claiborne, Church, Wilcox, Carr, White, Patmon, Jones, Heath, McCray
I still would consider Scott over McCray, and at least put him on the PS. I don't think we add anyone at this position because of the position flexibility of White and Jones.

ST (3) Bailey, Jones, Ladouceur
Man, it's nice to see Jones rediscover his groove.

Although this is my roster for now, I'd be on the lookout for a veteran tackle to replace Weems and a player with potential to take Brinkley's roster spot, which might happen anyway if Swaim or Gibson is kept.

I agree with the vast majority, but have a few spots where my opinion differs:

I think that they will keep Gibson over going with 6 receivers. Despite a rough night, I think they want to keep Gibson around. They knew he would be a project. Given the lack of tackles throughout the league, I think the risk of losing him on waivers is high. Parnell got several years to develop and I think Gibson should too.

I don't think they're keeping 7 linebackers and I think they will simply admit their mistake in signing Brinkley go that big contract. They've already put both Hitchens and Gachkar in the middle and both have played well there. Either one will hold that spot until McClain returns. When Brinkley is the fourth option at his only position, it speaks volumes.

I'm fine with letting Heath, McCray or both go for some new blood. Both have had their shot and both have failed.

I still think Edwards/Gardner can go either way and can see Edwards being traded for a late round pick. And Terrell McClain is on the bubble due to cost and injury history for me.

I think Brinkley survives because they simply don't trust Ro McClain.

Your point on Gibson is good. I think they try to get him to the practice squad for now. Depends on if they think they can draft another one just like him next year or not.

I think they keep McCray to captain the special teams. That's basically what he is.

Gardner is cheaper to waive when Hardy returns than Edwards is. That's why I went with him.
