I think Brinkley survives because they simply don't trust Ro McClain.

I think they do trust both Hitchens and Gachkar in the middle.

Your point on Gibson is good. I think they try to get him to the practice squad for now. Depends on if they think they can draft another one just like him next year or not.

I think they keep McCray to captain the special teams. That's basically what he is.

Maybe, it's me, but are you seeing any great contributions from 'the captain'?

Gardner is cheaper to waive when Hardy returns than Edwards is. That's why I went with him.

I think they try to deal Edwards if they can get anything for him. I think they love Gardner's motor, versatility, and special teams work and I think that they will find any way they can to keep him on the roster, even if Edwards is the better pass rusher and athlete.

I can't see McCray being kept over Heath. McCray cannot play safety at all and Heath is just as good, if not better, on special teams.

I don't see either being cut for Scott, but I wouldn't mind that happening to McCray.

I'm fully open to Heath over McCray. I'll make the change now.

Harwell dropped about 6 passes in preseason and muffed 2 punts...not only will he not make the 53, he probably played his way off the PS.

Edwards is not a vested veteran so his salary is not guaranteed. He has been better than Gardner.

OK, assuming no trades and nobody getting picked from other cuts, here's the 53 in my eyes. Watch the waiver wire closely for a QB, RB, or S. I think it's too hopeful to expect an OT to be released.

It's going to be interesting to see who gets Hardy and McClain's spots. Those two guys will have their full season salary guaranteed, and then they'll have to be waived, so expect young, cheap guys to take these roles.

The BOLDED are the guys who surprised and earned a spot with their play.

Offense (24)
QB (2) - Romo, Weeden
RB (4) - Randle, McFadden, Dunbar, Clutts
WR (6) - Bryant, Williams, Beasley, Street, Whitehead, HARWELL
OL (8) - Smith, Leary, Frederick, Martin, Free, Collins, Bernadeau, Weems
TE (4) - Witten, Escobar, Hanna, Swaim

Defense (26)
DE (5) - Lawrence, Mincey, Gregory, Russell, Gardner (Hardy)
DT (5) - TCrawford, Hayden, JColeman, Crawford, TMcClain
LB (7) - Lee, Hitchens, Wilson, Gachkar, Wilber, SMITH, Brinkley, (RMcClain)
CB (5) - Carr, Claiborne, Patmon, White, Jones
S (4) - Church, Wilcox, McCray, SCOTT

Specialists (3)
K - Bailey
P - Jones
LS - Ladoeceur

Thoughts.....
  • This was so relatively easy. That's because Dallas is good.
  • I think Tim Scott, Nick Harwell, and Ben Gardner pushed Ken Bishop and Jeff Heath off the roster this time. However, the team may opt for Bishop over McClain because of salary. All three are vulnerable to an interest in a released player elsewhere however.
  • What is saving Brinkley is the coach's complete lack of trust of Rolando McClain when he comes back. Too many whens, ifs, and buts with that guy. They can't count on him.
  • Jenkins has them confused, too. He should be better than Harwell, but I think they like and trust Harwell to be a better special teams contributor.
  • Tim Scott looks like a valuable special teams guy.
  • Whitehead earned the punt returner spot last night. Now sit Beasley down, please.
  • I wanted to pencil anybody but Weems in as the swing tackle. I think Collins would ultimately be that guy if it came down to it for long stretches.
  • Pay attention to the QB cuts. Weeden could be in trouble this week, or they could just add a third QB and subtract elsewhere.

Cut Harwell, keep Bishop.

Heath over McCray.

Scott to PS.

Despite many fails against the Texans, I try to keep Gibson. His physical ability is very good but he is so raw, if he was beef he would still be walking around the feed lot.

It seems to easy. I must be missing somebody.

Your only cuts that mught make it are:
Brinkley
Edwards
Gibson (very raw but talented physically)

I could see them considering signing a RB and keeping 4.

I was going to post this exact same thing, except I keep Heath and McCray

I think some of you guys are 1.) giving up on Gibson too fast and 2.) over estimating the amount of quality linemen out there. Jeremy Parnell was likely the best swing tackle in the league last year considering that he was a starter level talent. Darrion Weems is more par for the course. Most teams have someone like him or worse. And while Gibson is not good enough to be anyone's swing tackle this year, he's good enough that in a year or two, I think he can be better than Weems and if we're lucky close to Parnell.

I have LB Keith Smith taking McCray's ST spot.

I think I have them both on the 53 man roster, but when McClain comes back, one of the two have to be released, assuming there is no one on IR at the time. Maybe because I only have 10 d-linemen, Gardner to PS, unless he is slaimed and Edwards on the 53 until Hardy comes back.

Yes, Gibson has good physical talent. He is just very raw. He just needs a lot of coaching and time.
