Even if that was the case, I don't know how a QB "freezing" because of a player not being in the right spot is on the WR. This isn't the first time Romo has worked with nobodies off the street or scrubs at the WR position. Remember Ogletree? He was known for this kind of stuff.

Butler probably was lost on the field, but I think you're exaggerating this a bit.

I actually liked what I saw. A 6'3" guy with speed. Now, I agree, he's got to learn the playbook and run routes more precisely. But with only 3 days of practice, that is to be expected. With a full week of reps, and a home game without crowd noise, maybe he's in a better place.

What did you see him do? The Cowboys have had tall WRs with speed in past training camps that couldn't play football (L'damien Washington, etc..).

I hope he can do something and he looked good in the college game footage that I've seen and a little bit of NFL game footage with the Raiders, but I've seen other WRs look terrific in college that couldn't play in the NFL.

Every time he was on the field, it was a fire drill trying to get him even lined up in the right spot. No thanks. He shouldn't even sniff the field until he can at least do that much.

Thats why they pay the coaches...They gave up a draft pick for this kid....Coaches needs to step up and get him ready....NO time for Excuses.....

I think it was Spags that said that there was at least one play where he was open deep but Romo threw to Witten - he didn't think that eagles CB could run with him. Mentioned that he just hadn't earned Romo's trust to be in the right place.

Darn coaches. They had multiple WRs in training camp that failed to make the roster. They must not have coached them up.

Get some better coaches in here and the Cowboys won't have to pay big money to guys like Dez anymore. Just coach em up!

Nothing really, it was a silly hold by the defender. The defender was probably "tired'.

So without Dez, no doubt the Cowboys will face 8 in the box to stop our running game until we can force teams out of it. I think the FO was thinking about this when they acquired Butler (albeit thinking Romo would be throwing to him). I think he should start this week going forward, or at least play a major role. He has 4.4 wheels and is a big, physical downfield threat (in a different way than T Will, who is all speed, not physicality). We will need to take some shots with him to keep defenses honest. I hope he has digested the playbook and gets alot of reps this week. Street is not the answer.

If he doesn't have the playbook down, I think we need to see less of him this week. The one thing Weeden doesn't need is the distraction of a receiver not knowing where to line up. We need to do everything possible to make this as easy on Weeden as we can.

I'd run more two tight end sets using Beasley and Williams as the primary receivers. That gives Weeden some underneath targets to work with and receivers who know where they are supposed to be (although Beasley has had some issues with that).

Yesterday, I saw him get open deep (on the play the other poster referenced where Romo threw to Witten). And I saw him draw a holding penalty because he was going to be open deep. Limited sample, but I like what I saw.

And of course the limited action he got in last year's in-season and preseason games is just a limited picture, but I saw him catch deep passes against starting DBs with first team offense and him run away from 4 defenders on a slant he took to the house. That is more that Devin Street has done in the chances he's been given here. Hence my post...

Butler was the intended target on two plays that I recall and seemed to botch them both, including the one where Romo broke his clavicle, so... no.

The only pass I seen he was targeted the blitz came and Romo pulled it down and took the sack. Look like a deep bomb but took to long

I'm just asking about the Cowboys-Eagles game.

Like I said, he looked decent in the past, but I need to see him at least catch a pass with the Cowboys before I get too excited.

First Offensive play against Atlanta will be play action pass bomb to Butler. Weeden's got a cannon...use it to loosen the box.

I saw screw it, let him go Clint Longley for 6-8 weeks.

Or give him a definite route, not some option route where he has to read the defense and make a decision. The coaches can explain the exact route to him and just have him run it then get him out of the game until the coaches can explain the next play to him. Just don't wait until he is on the field and Weeden has to explain it to him then.
