It's a tough place to coach... no doubt...

The University didn't even pay Patterson's remaining contract... football boosters did... and they like the royal treatment...

UT is not a hard place to coach.
The school administration needs to use a brain when hiring.
UT needed a coach with Texas recruiting ties and JUCO ties of they wanted to win quickly.

Strong is a good man and a program builder but that takes time.
They chose that route so they need to relax and let it happen.

Art Briles didn't win overnight at Baylor.
It takes time to recruit the guys you need for any system.
And they often gotta get kicked in the teeth for a year or two even then.

Strong will need to recruit better. So he needs a couple great recruiters brought in.
He should have a Saban like staff given UT's budget.

Those boosters will be glad to provide a helicopter.

UT got money, willingness, history, & a recruiting rich state...

It's going to be hard to recruit when your program could very easily 1-11. No top recruits want to play for a cellar dweller. Strong was an AWFUL choice.

Depends on the goal.
If they wanted to toughen up and build long-term he was a good choice.

For immediate success he wasn't.

UT isn't going 1-11 and they finished last year top 15 across all scouting reporting agencies.
The issue was for years they added kids who looked great in camps but couldn't actually play the game very well.
Remains to be seen how this staff compares there since the kids are all just babies.

The majority of coaches are going to struggle at first because this has become a volatile sport in every way.
Kids transfer at alarming rates.

UT didn't want to recruit knuckleheads or go heavy JUCO so have been out on some real talents.
It is very hard to win and try to be above everyone else's standards.

They may very well end up with a Chip Kelly....

Nic Chubb is probably out for the season :(.

In other news... Texas Wins!!! Good upset win for Strong when everyone was calling for his head.

Desaun Watson and Clemson is gonna be tough to beat this year.

Boykin and Doctson are so fun to watch. It's a shame their defense is terrible this season because ultimately, these close games will catch up to them.

You realize due to injury and other things, they basically had only one starter from the previous year starting on defense. (At least I believe against Texas, not sure what the status what for today's game. Probably the same)

Yeah their defense is rebuilding. Last year was probably their best shot because they had a complete team. Safety Chris Hackett also made a terrible decision going pro because he could have returned and been the leader on this defense in the secondary. He ended up going undrafted and I don't think he's even on a practice squad.

not sure i totally buy clemson.
won by 3 at louisville scoring only 20 and scored 24 to win by at a banged up notre dame.
not a ton big challenges left but they'll get fsu, a road game at the gamecocks and an acc champ game if they make it there.

but i haven't seen much that looks unbeatable in college football this year.

According to Nick Chubb's mom, the Georgia RB will require knee surgery, but it could have been worse. "It's not nearly as bad as it could've been," La'Velle Chubb wrote on Facebook, adding that her son tore his posterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's game. "They'll wait for swelling to go down to decide when to have surgery. Possibly two [weeks], Nick is in good spirits."

No one is unbeatable.

agreed... especially this year.
i should have worded that differently....

i am not sure clemson is a top 15 team.
watson at times looks stellar but at others he stares down receivers and misses wide open guys.
his athleticism can carry him past mediocre defenses but good ones bottle him up.
clemson is an sec caliber team in the acc so they'll always be top 2 or 3 there imho.

ohio state has the most overall talent followed closely by baylor imho.
alabama is in that discussion but the difference at qb is too large... as it was in the playoffs last year.
all that said, ohio state might be the hardest team in the country to watch.
they play ugly ball 90% of the time and wait on amazing athletes to bail them out.

the sec is a very strong league but qb's make the difference and they've generally been short there.
it looks that way again. lsu is a monster with a very mediocre guy at the reigns.
i favor tamu out of the sec because the qb(and back ups even) can play and they have finally gotten an SEC caliber defense.

the pac 12 is a fun league to watch but much like the big 12 it has it's premier team playing dumpster fire ball all too often and serially underachieving.
trying to sell utah is a lot like selling baylor and tcu... which means they have to be elite more than one year for it to matter.

my final 4:
baylor - No loss big 12 champ
tamu -wins sec, 1 loss
notre dame - 1 loss de facto acc champs
ucla - 1 loss pac 12 champs.

1 loss ohio state finishes just out of the running. late loss ot either msu or mich and not making b1g champ game hurts as does weak schedule.
1 loss fsu hurt by notre dame getting more love.
utah - hurt by being an upstart and what i project as late season loss to ucla.

Well for my pro team I have to deal with Weeden...nuff said.

WVU I am dealing with a guy who actually likes to throw it down field multiple times a game. And there are times where he makes a pass so perfect that it
makes you drop your jaw in awe. He had a throw like this weekend where the the WR just had to hold his hands and the ball landed right into them for a TD.

The problem is...that perfect long ball, in stride or not, only comes about 1 in 7-10 times the throws the long ball. Normally it is too high, too long or too short and there are times I swear I think the kid is seeing demon ducks flying around and is trying to kill them because he throws some balls that make you wonder what in the heck he was seeing. He also almost always throws a high ball over the middle if it is over 15 yards and I don't know if it is because he is shorter (just about 6 foot) and tries to throw it over the ump or what he is doing but it is always high, which results in his WRs having to jump to try and catch it which usually leads to it bouncing off the WRs Hands and landing somewhere behind him....which was ok when we were playing smaller schools were their secondaries could not match up. However now that we are playing schools with good talent and or depth...those balls get caught by safeties sitting back just waiting for a gift from the girdiron gods.

Oh....man alive it sucks when both of your teams QBs are stinking it up. And this with our defense leading the nation in INTs.

Oh and WVU is like Dallas with the special teams or more precisely, the poor starting field position and of course the opposing team having great field position.
