News: DMN: Babe Laufenberg: What Cowboys can't do if Matt Cassel is their new QB

I'm ok with being stuck with Cassell, if anything we will get a chance to evaluate our backup receivers. I'd like to see more of Butler when he's back in the lineup.

Changing QB's is not something you take lightly. It has huge ramifications throughout the team not only in game planning but also the physch of the team. You have to think about the what ifs like if you put Cassel in and he's no better than Weeden or maybe even worse. Or what if Cassel does great then gets injured and you have to go back to Weeden. Talking about losing the team. That's exactly what would happen. Having said all that with the bye week coming and giving the team 2 weeks to prepare Cassel I'd make the change. It's a gamble and I understand the risk and am glad I don't have to make that decision.

I guess when Romo is healthy we shouldn't play him because if he gets hurt again, Garrett would lose the team.

I want to see the Cowboys cut Weeden outright to send a message. Sign a real FB that can block.

Cut one of the underperforming WRs and bring back AJ Jenkins. He is big and is a threat on the outside imo. He can run block well.

Start Christine Michael and give him 22 carries a game.

Play defense and smash mouth power run football with play action, screens, and pick plays mixed in.

Get creative on offense.

No reason this team can't go win 2 or 3 games before Romo gets back.

You're hired!

I agree with everything. I agree especially with giving Christine Michael 20+ carries a game. As a fan, I really tried to jump on board with Randle, but there's nothing special about the guy, and I don't trust him to hold on to the ball. Five games is enough for me.

I do know this: when I asked Bill Parcells why he waited so long to insert Tony Romo as his starting quarterback, his answer was, "Once I made the change, I knew I wasn't going back." So if the change is made to Cassel, they have to stick with him until Romo returns. You can't go back.

Well, we know what we are getting if we stay with Weeden. So to say 'you can't go back' I have to ask, who the hell would want to?

The only memory I have of Babe is around 90 or 91{?} and all we had do was win one game to sneak in the playoffs. The place was Atlanta Fulton county stadium and babe was pretty bad. Almost Weeden bad.

Babe was the reason we finally started upgrading the backup QB position.

I'm all for doing the right thing,,,,the answer could be keep playing Weeden.....But the odds of winning with Weeden are highly unlikely and getting worse each week. A QB who has lost 12 consecutive games in a row is huge sign of bigger problems......The Cowboys need a spark...find a person to rally around....unfortunately this team does not believe Weeden can make it happen....Coaches need to find some motivation and give this team a lift. Stubbornly pushing the status quo is not working....epic fail

Nobody was getting open Sunday though Cassel is the better QB over Weedone, Dallas would have still lost.

Looking back it was a good idea to play dummy vs the Cheatriots moving forward, because the last time Cassel played vs Belicheat it got pretty ugly.

The majority here is panicking. Relax.

I see it now (What, we are better than NE, Packers, Cincy, Denvers, even Seattle?) . . . a 7-9 season.
OK shed a tear grow uuup!
But think about the draft. Eh?
Yeah I see that twinkle in your eye.
Name it. QB, RB . . . maybe a DE to team up with a intriguing Crawford.
holla

Love all of these ideas.

I expect none to actually happen though..

What can't they do with Cassel? Is that the question? I'll tell you what they can't do. They can't lose, because there is no way Cassel is as bad as Weeden. Cassel might suck, but he can't be worse than Weeden. Could Cassel possibly be any worse than Weeden?

One terrible quarterback doesn't wanna place blame on another terrible quarterback. Shocking.

Precisely why he is hesitant to call for Weeden's demotion. Pot would be calling the kettle black.

Laufenberg was worse than Weeden bad, so bad I cannot remember a worse Cowboys QB, and I've been watching since '71.
