The Case for Firing Jason Garrett and the coaching staff **merged**

So it looks like Jason Garrett isn't going to get fired. Jerry Jones has seemed intent on falling on his sword for Hardy and the QB situation. 400 posts in and you guys have come up with little else other than the record itself. Jones will still be making the ultimate decision.

And we will all suffer for it, either way......

Just an aside. Listening to the Ticket this morning and they have the shows all mixed up on this white elephant day so Sturm was in the morning. They spoke of how Romo will be the excuse for this season and he said the one thing he has taken from all of this is that his opinion of Garrett has gone way down. He said that you have a coach to make adjustments to scratch out a game or two. Why have a coach if they are no good once a Super Star is out? Basically he said Garrett isn't a guy who makes a difference.

I'm glad someone finally said it.

Well he really isn't. Some one name one thing that separates Garrett from any meh coach.

He's been trying to figure out X's and O's for years and now Sturm I guess he has finally got to the point in his understanding what many of us who understand it have known about Garrett for years.

He offers nothing.

We need to be absolutely perfect with Jason Garrett to sustain success because he relies on nothing but talent.

We've seen over the years though that sometimes even being more talented isn't enough.

I've watched teams like the Commanders that have no business sharing the same field as us completely stop our offense with nothing but strategy.

Yup. That was really his point and it was short and sweet. He said coaches are there to scratch out wins when things go wrong..adjust. He ended with saying he guessed JG wasn't this stud coach or coach on the rise. Again, loved his quote...and it goes to what you said...."what good are coaches if they have to have superstars." When you are losing to the Eagles there is an issue. There is a reason why we were always .500 and couldn't adjust to win that last game of the year. And this will continue because Romo will always be one hit away. Last year was the outlier where you had a PERFECT season with the right guys and no injuries.

So now he doesn't make adjustments on the strength of a AM radio throwaway line? I like how he is held for the offense which he doesn't coordinate and not the defense which is the same. You guys are discerners of truth!

Sturm hasn't been a fan of Garrett's for a long time.

We may be effectively out of contention, but there's a lot of football to play yet. Garrett's got a lot of coaching to do still this year. Whether he can keep the team out of the tank or not will say a lot about his longevity in Dallas.

The game this weekend is going to be huge. WAS is going to be pumped. On the road. Huge national audience. Division implications. Callahan. It's going to be a buzz saw from a mediocre team. I'm curious to see how we handle it.

Look at Garrett's hire and ask yourself if he never had any control.

He got Hudson Houck from Miami
He got Derrick Dooley who he coached with in Miami
He got Kiffen and supposedly worked with him via Tampa or some garbage
He got his brothers in the organization, John Garrett TE coach, then promoted to passing game coordinator as well
Scott Linehan last year, whom he also worked with, to offset changes by Callahan

Jason brought the Cad Cameron era of Miami over to Dallas..

Why people think Jason was ham-strung and completely shackled by Jerry is just utter ridiculousness... This guy has brought over coach that comes from his 'coaching tree', which he even ties to Saban..

This explains your Dallas Cowboys... We are the Cad Cameron Miami Dolphins... Garrett's offense is really more closely aligned to that, as opposed to any other Coryell coached offense..

His name is Cam not Cad

And what will the pro JG people say? You nailed it. But every year teams battle injuries. They find ways to win. If we win the rest of this season I may jump off the JG sucks train. I still think we can win with Cassel, he was just brought in to late. We shall see.

Getting down on the coach is the first recourse when getting down on the QB is not a legitimate option. There's no escaping it. And no amount of pleading for supporting arguments is going to get an actual debate on the topic because it's too easy to derail the discussion with a quip or with the preponderance of opinion.

You can tell, though, when players stop believing in a coach. Or when others on the staff do. Or when team management does. So far, it hasn't happened in Dallas. But I don't see how it doesn't if we don't start winning a few games.

I really don't want to see us having to start over. That's the worst possible outcome to this awful season if it happens.

And if Garrett does get the team through this somehow to continue with the plan next season, I'll consider that a coaching win regardless of the record. I'm sure I'll be virtually alone in that, but that's how I'd see it.

I agree. This in some ways is bigger than the Carolina game.

To be fair to Jason,he's still in training.

He's the HC no? He is responsible for all things on the field. He's the leader of all coaches. He must be fine with all of his coordinators because it's the same thing week in week out. He has the power to demand changes, yet we see none. While all the blame cannot be laid at his feet he is the final answer.

It's the easy answer sure but if he is responsible for it all then why does he only get blame for half? Might as well throw in ST while your at it which has been awful.

You talk about derailing the discussion with a preponderance of opinion, yet you throw in the ole moral victory paragraph at the end. Dave Campo never lost 7 in a row, with much less talent at nearly every position. Garrett has one winning season under his belt and has been coaching here since before Wade Phillips.

So we put players believing in the coach above strategy and maximizing talent?

I would have fired the ST coach right after the Giants loss in all honesty. No, he cut players at the bottom of the roster to send a message.
I run my own company, I consider every bad decision made by the people I hire my bad decision. I hired them and gave them trust and authority.
I simply go to them and tell them we need to work on changing what ever to make sure we are at our best.
Is that to much to ask of a HC? Please tell me what I'm missing that makes JG any more than average at best at his job.
I really think by my serious posts I have shown I will listen.

I don't need people to agree with me to continue looking for the truth. In general people don't hate me because I try to talk smart as much as it is that I try to talk smarter than them. That they don't argue me on merit and try passive aggressive tactics and group up doesn't effect me at all. Actions speak louder than words. When they think they can win a point they come after me. It's built into the bit.

I don't want what your outome either but I would at least like to see people attempt to keep their heads through the anger. I'm going to continue to rub their faces in having no plan for replacement, how they barely understand what is going on offense particularly from the telecast, and the simple fact that they are mad and need to admit that is the motivation for their 'activities.'

At the end of the day they may hate me and the fact they have to look up a word or two every now and then but not all of them are that stupid even if they are too proud to admit I may have a point. That is good enough for me.

Why do I need to do that? I just need to show that outside of possibly Payton there are no possible replacements that are better than him. That is my current position after all. Show me someone we can get that is better.

If you own your own business then the scarcity of talent (re:labor) and its implications should be obvious.

I don't think he is 'great' or anything of that nature and in general I stay away from such emotional generalizations. I do think he does a good job developing our drafted players. I can list the ones that eh has drafted and developed if you would like. I don't think he can develop QBs and is conservative to a fault but I also realize that is true for almost all NFL coaches.

I just want people to live in reality and not the reactionary world of blame and fault. That is the mob mentality and I pride myself in not taking part.

The enmity between Alex (re: boozeman) and me goes way back. He gets mad when I get recommended tags on my posts and they stay on the main page while he and his buddies get banned and their posts get to the rant zone. They complain about it a lot.

I figure if they are going to be so obtuse that I might as well get my money's worth and I play a long. I am not going to treat you like that.
