Not sure we need to resign Hardy

only caught second half of game but DL looked beastly. Watched Gregory bull rushing OL back into QB. With Gregory and Lawrence really improving I am leaning on not resigning Hardy and use that money on signing two of next three options: DT/CB/LB.

Dont know which game you watched but Gregory is manhandled by TEs easily on running play the whole season. This game he was blocked by a wr and had no chance. Against tackles he has one move if that one doesnt work he is out of the play. He gets pushed around alot and for sure bull rushes no one - at least not to a favorable outcome for him. And forget edge contain with this guy.

And our DL is the weak link of this defense. I dont understand how moderators on tv again and again start the broadcast by saying we have a great pass rush and then in the end admit that we couldnt rush the passer. Our dl has 2 or 3 good drives and then disappears. Thats every frickin game the same. They cant rush the passer. But the worst thing is they are not good against the run. Just look at the jets game when we were missing McClain.

Hardy is not the force i expected him to be. A good player but nothing special. We need a great pass rusher and a big upgrade in the middle. I still cant understand that Crawford deal. Medicore player given top money.

The play with the WR blocking him jumped out at me too.

I'll give Gregory the benefit of the doubt because high ankle sprains can take forever to go away, plus he will be a lot better with more weight room work and technique coaching in the offseason. But I had the same reaction, the majority of his snaps were the same outside rush where the LT would just put him past the play and he would do nothing. He did have a couple of plays, but he needs a lot of work.

I really wouldn't pencil him into a starting position at this point. Who knows if Hardy returns but if he doesn't, I think rather than starting Gregory I would move DLaw to WDE and talk Mincey into another year to be the SDE with Irving rotating in with him.

If you do that, you can't use that draft pick somewhere else. That is the point of resigning him.

yeah, but then you'd be paying a guy 15 mil a year or more when you should be rebuilding through the draft. Not a good use of $$$$ if you ask me.

Hardy has the same chance of getting 15 Million a year as I do. That is what JJ Watt gets and Hardy has 6 sacks over the last two seasons. He may get into 8 digits with incentives, but he has no shot at 15MM per season.

Crawford....can anyone even pretend make sense out of signing a really great practice player to a huge contract.

No.

And Marinelli had to have signed off on that and it was just wishful thinking.

I mean I know there are guys who earn their spots on the team as good practice players and others as game day players..

and the coaches try to figure out who is going to step up.

But I do not see what he brings to justify the position much less the salary.

I thought the front office had stopped giving out contracts based on potential.

Obviously..not.

I think we do need Hardy, until it's proven otherwise... because neither Lawrence nor Gregory have shown themselves to be better than Hardy is right now...

If you are going to pay a guy 10+ million a season he needs to be a play maker, Hardy hasnt shown that at all.

Rather see them get two good players who can help the overall talent level of the defense.

I think your numbers are mostly correct. If I told you they could use Hardy money for starting CB and starting LB....are you still dropping that money on Hardy with Gregory in wings? Note: IF Dallas doesn't resign Hardy they should still go after 2nd tier FA DE.

id redesign hardy and if bosa is the next jj watt, i'd draft him too. you can never have enough pass rushers, remember the giants?

I wouldn't sign him either but I could see us doing it because the teams willing to sign him will be limited and he is coming off a very avg season. So his price tag could be MUCH LOWER than what he will want

You are dreaming if you think he gets close to $15M a year. Holy moly.

Sure, if I could only have one and it was between Hardy and above average starters at CB and Sam - I'm taking the latter.

But we are going to have plenty of money for next season and Hardy's contract will likely be more than half in incentives and probably only count 4 - 8MM against the cap next year. Almost all these contracts have a big signing bonus amortized over 5 years and a lower salary the first year. Brandon Carr got a 10MM bonus but only had salaries of 1.2MM and 700K in his first two years as a Cowboy. He only counted 4 million against the Dallas cap for 2012 and 2013.

I don't doubt we sign a FA DE and I'm really not ready to hand a starting job to Gregory, but he will no doubt improve next year. Also I think Ryan Russell and David Irving will be much improved next year and be solid rotation guys at DE. I think if the five DEs are Hardy, DLaw, Gregory, Russell and Irving we will be in great shape.

Yeah, and that's exactly why he's been on the roster sucking for the entire 2015 season.

Pretty much, but almost all Free Agents are overpaid. Carr filled a very deep hole the team had at CB in 2012 because they whiffed on draft picks like Mike Jenkins and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah. The trick is to draft and develop the right guys and not have to overpay in free agency.

I wouldn't resign Hardy, too much money tied up into a guy that isn't the difference maker people think he is..

I thought talent was needed?....We're worse than the worse? Jax is probably licking their chops for the 'Boys now. This team/staff is soft and you want Hardy unsigned. Mediocrity will be accepted more, if Hardy is gone.

Hopefully the Cowboys will have a figure in mind and if Hardy wants more they let him walk. If they could get another pass rusher and someone like Haloti Ngata for the price of Hardy, I think it would help more.
