I'm not sure what to think of the guy...

He has a career passer rating above 90 with almost a 2:1 TD to INT ratio.

He didn't spend the season moping... did he learn more about the position?

I'd bring him in for a workout and to test his knowledge about the position.

Then go from there.

That surprised me too, but I have to credit Shanahan and a simplified playbook. I think he worked some miracles with this guy but once the read option was figured out, Griffin - like Kaepernick - got exposed as guys playing street ball and not true NFL quarterbacks.

It's hard to dismiss the scathing report that Chris 'Mr Commander' Cooley wrote on him:

Point is there was talent on that 2014 team. He was throwing to Desean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. Alfred Morris ran for over 1K yards that year. Jordan Reed when healthy is a very, very good TE.

I'd give Manziel way more slack playing in the pit of Cleveland than I do RG3 with the 2014 Commanders. And being a Commander didn't make him put the ball on the ground 5 times in 9 games. Abandoning his reads and taking off far too much did.

I disagree. With a healthy Romo in the saddle and a healthy Dez out wide it's not even close. That said, I already recognized the skins improvement elsewhere in another thread. At the end of the day, when it mattered, we beat dat rump with Matt Cassel calling the shots. /justification

And they went 2-7 in games Griffin played in for 2014, regardless of the other teams record.

I see Michael's original point that the stats were better than I would have expected, but they also don't pass the eye test. He was not a good football player in 2014 and it was clear then he thought it was everyone's fault but his own.

I don't wan't either of them personally, but if we're going to use the "talent around them" excuse I think Johnny gets a little more slack was the only point I was making.

The Skins might have backed into the playoffs this year, no question, but they got there. I highly doubt they would have if Danny had forced Gruden to start RG3.

p.s. I do think they might have beaten GB if Jackson hadn't brainfarted at the goal line and scored that 1st quarter TD. They had the Packers on the ropes.

And some of us like to hang our hat on the 'close games' that they 'had a shot at winning' but when they played the truly good teams, they got clobbered, just like they have for most of the current regime's tenure.

I made this very point to my best friend (who happens to be as big of a Skins fan as I am Cowboys) and his response via text:

Eh... i feel you but 1st and goal from the half yard line against a team with one of the worst run defenses in the league. They were a better team. We were a 9-7 team that made it in by winning the games in our division that we were supposed to win. That's it. They were a 10-6 team with the reigning MVP that was was not playing like we're used to seeing them off play until they met the poor defense of exactly who we are....a 9-7 team that still needs to get better but is headed on the right direction

This is the same FO that thought Weeden and Cassel could get the job done too. In fact they were actually talking up Weeden in the offseason, and gave him all of three games before yanking him.
