Flozel, Demarcus, PacMan, Martellus, T. Newman

This is a point I and others have tried to make for a very long time.

The culture is broken and it does have a source of blame. It is our pathologically optimistic executive leadership that does not react to something unless it is slapping them across the face. And even if the light suddenly comes on, it is several years too late and there are other new cracks in the dam that have to be plugged.

The culture in Dallas suggests that there are a myriad of external sources that are causing pain, rarely internal failure because we are very poor at self-evaluation.

Yes we have.

A long time.

Right after Johnson left and jerry wanted his hands in the football operations.

Jerry will not admit his style is counter productive......" I'll drive it right over the drink, every time."

Uh yeah.

The environment in Dallas, fostered by the lunatic owner, is a cancer towards fielding a winning football team. People don't want to hear it but it doesn't make it any less true. This is why I refuse to blame coaches for failing here. It's also why this franchise is dead and has been for two decades now.

We are all rooting for a rotting corpse.

I don't miss anyone on that list besides Ware but not at the price he was at for the level of play he was producing.

Actually they are both one year wonders until they do it again. McClain was unreliable in spurts last year. McFadden played over his head. That is a little different than "turning around their career".

Ro was retired and out of the league for a year before the Cowboys brought him out of retirement and have gotten good play out of him. He retired after not wanting to make it work on the Ravens-- a respectful organization thought to have great culture.

DMC might have more to prove, but he had lost his job in Oakland of all places.

I think Dallas has to mold their own identity instead of looking at last years winner and trying to emulate. We draft players to fit into a system then we change the system and I think it has a lasting effect.

I just wish they would have an epiphany today and realize the defense still needs a lot of help, especially the backend. The last 3 super bowl winners had the best secondary in the league. We will NEVER win anything with these safeties and soft corners.

Garrett will fix it.

I agree secondary is important, I think one of the biggest issues in the secondary is FS. I still think they need to have guys capable of playing man and zone, not a situation where it is one or the other.

Jerry's hands were already in the football operations.

Jimmy was the egomaniac that tried to take all the credit.

That is a problem, but safeties are really hard to come by.

Kudos to Denver being able to put that defense together, but it's not something you just "do". You have to be a bit fortunate.

Pro Bowl safety true hard to come by, solid safety who knows how to make reads and adjust not as hard. I don't think we need all world just better than we have.

The wikipedia page for the Cowboys should read - The Dallas Cowboys were a professional American football team located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from 1960-1994.

A pro bowl type safety is really one of the most underrated priority for a SB team.

Since 2000

Rod Woodson
John Lynch
Rodney Harrison (x3)
Bob Sanders
Polamalu (x2)
Darren Sharper
Nick Collins
Ed Reed
Earl Thomas/Kam Chancellor
McCourty

The only exceptions really have been the Giants-- but there are a lot of exceptions when it comes to the Giantsand SB winning trends.

So do you just cope by drinking straight from the bottle, or what?

I kid.

I agree the importance and if we could find an elite FS that would be great however right now I would settle with Improving it from what we have now.

T.O., Wade Phillips, Joe DeCamillis and we can add the Krakken and Carr to this list next year once we cut or dont sign them again. This is not a thread that we should have kept or paid all of these players to stay. To take it further, I would venture to say that we should not have paid many of them based on their performance on or off the field. The point of this thread is to state that when we they left we thought they were all done, yet they left playing poorly (all but TO) and then they perform better for their new teams.

This points to the culture of the Dallas Cowboys. Im not placing the blame at anyone in particulars feet, but there is something wrong with the culture of the Dallas Cowboys and it funnels down to the product on the field.

This is a poorly designed argument. We're going to blame the culture because Phillips was a poor head coach and is succeeding as a defensive coordinator, which he has always done?

We're going to blame the culture for Ware being released because he was aging and having injury problems and the price tag was too high to take a chance that he wasn't in decline? Same for Newman. Same for Owens (although there were obviously other issues there).

Flozell also was cut because of age vs. price tag, not because he couldn't perform decently. Bennett was cut because we had our starter in Witten and were not going to pay starter's money to a backup (neither was he going to stay to be a backup).

An argument might could be made against the team's culture, but this is not it.

yeah me too. Hopefully Byron can be that guy though. Seems like he's got a great head on his shoulders and great athleticism. Hopefully it clicks.

I agree. How many times have we seen our talent go to waste. We have the players yet we can't put it together. I just don't get it.

I wonder what Wade could have done here if he had the chance to assemble his own staff. I was glad to see him and DWare get a ring

Have to laugh seeing wade phillips with a dominate defense. Idk why he couldnt here

I think the 2009 defense was the closest Dallas had on going deeper into the playoffs. His defense probably could have been better if he was just simply the defensive coordinator instead of head coach.
