I'd say we're probably a 10-6 team and favored to win the East, all things being equal right now. An improved defense, including better S play since that's the easiest low-hanging fruit out there, and we'd be getting closer to that 12-4-with-some-lucky-breaks level.

I'm not seeing that "improved defense" part right now. Thornton is a good signing and an upgrade over Hayden for sure, but at this point we're taking a big step backward at defensive end.

To clarify: I didn't mean improved v. last season (I don't see that, either). I mean I think we're at that 10-6 is level right now with the current roster, and that we'll improve the defense in the draft.

I would guess you probably don't agree with that estimate of our team right now, but that's about where I'd put it with Romo and Dez back. Bringing Hardy back for another incentive-laden contract would make me feel even better about the outlook defensively.

Reggie Nelson would be a good player for a year. had 8 Int's last year.. hes over 32 but has only missed 6 games in his career.. he does make plays on the ball tho so he might not be the RKG

I think 10-6 is possible, but that's with some good health. But even if we go defensive heavy in the draft, I don't see it having a huge impact. Not pointing at you, but many of the fans who are screaming for defense at #4 overall won't acknowledge the fact that the three 1st round talents we acquired last year didn't do much to impact our 2015 record. I think anyone expecting an immediate impact from rookies is kidding themselves.

I don't think 10-6 is out of the question, but even if this team does win a weak NFC East, they're not in any shape to compete with the big boys anyway.

Bringing Hardy back makes things look a lot better on the field for sure. But I expect them to sign the better locker room guy in Long, even though we'll likely be getting a lesser player on the field.

To be extra clear, as much as I want to address the defense, I still take the QB at #4 if he's there.

We'll see how it plays out. We've got a lot of holes right now, and there's a long way to go in the offseason. Teams have ways of surprising you, good or bad, once the season actually starts.

Very true. Neither of the last two seasons have been anything close to what I've expected going in!

Although I knew Dallas wasn't going to go all in this year, I was hoping that the team would after last year showed us that we are woefully low on talent.

We need difference-makers, but the team continues to follow its latest philosophy of signing and re-signing mid- to lower-level starters to fill up roster spots instead of fill them out.

I'm not saying buying a bunch of high-priced free agents would make a difference ... we've tried that before and failed ... I just would rather take a shot at that then depending on mediocre talent lifting this team higher than Romo can take it.

It seems like we've passed on some decent FAs, some of whom would not have cost a mint, to stick with ideas that don't conform to every situation. For decent money, we could have picked up players like Mario Williams or Robert Ayers, Casey Heyward and Matt Forte to bolster our lineup.

Yeah, it's been crazy. On paper, it's hard to go into this season feeling anywhere near as good as I felt going into last season, no matter what happens from here on out. But you never know.

I will be bummed if we don't get the QB, though.

I thought he would of been a decent pickup. He definitely would of been an upgrade over Wilcox and Church. But I'm ok with them not paying him 26 million with 13 of it guaranteed like the Ravens. I might be putting too much faith in the draft but at least they got an extra pick in the 4th now and they can get some playmakers on defense

The Cowboys believe in youth more than high priced veterans feeling there's more long term value and more desire to prove themselves. They are one of the youngest teams in the NFL. 12-4 just a year ago shows the merit in that philosophy. The younger generation wants splash so they have something to get excited about not realizing that the current philosophy is something to be excited about. You don't see New England or Green Bay signing any high priced free agents. Those teams are perennial contenders. This current Cowboy way of thinking just changed in the last couple years. Maybe 3. The Hardy signing was all Jerry and not what Garrett and I would guess Stephen wanted. Jerry needs to butt out permanently and let Stephen handle the personnel. This new philosophy takes time to take root to the extent we can survive if a Romo or Dez go down. Just need patience.

Me too. They can't pass up this opportunity.

I honestly think the Browns won't take a QB at 2, leaving us, hopefully, with our choice of who we feel is the best one.

I think Cleveland is just tired of drafting busts at QB early every year.

I'll feel better about that if they make a deal for Kaepernick. Otherwise, I'd fully expect them to take a quarterback, my guess that it would be Carson Wentz. But I'd be thrilled to find Jared Goff - who I consider to be the best QB in this draft - waiting for me at #4.

You know damn well...DAMN WELL stash that Hayden will still find a way to sneak in 300-400 snaps.

Every stinking offseason I hear on CZ how we've replaced Hayden, yet he always ends up with 500+ snaps when the year is over.

Did Mo not get benched?

Did Mo get outplayed by moore?

Did mo finish the 2014 season?

Is churchs best year ahead of him? Ok buddy.

In 2014 yes.
Nope because of injury.
Church best year could quite possibly be ahead. Yep.
