Lawrence and they will resign Mincey. Then it will be some other guys filling in. I can't believe this team is in worst shape this year than last year. After spending like 15 million and dropping a 2nd rounder on a so call blue chip player we are stuck.

Honestly, I'd rather have the young guys like Irving and Russell take over Mincey's role. What we lack is a starting caliber DE, not mediocre depth.

We could get Spence, Ogbah??, Dodd, Oakman, Nassib later in the draft

Pass on Oakman. I like the other guys, but they all come with question marks. We got little-to-no production out of our highly drafted DEs the past two years. I don't see one of those guys giving us much more. Bosa might be a little more NFL-ready but even he isn't a guarantee. I think we need to bring in a veteran and draft.

Even in the 4th or 5th ???

I'd take him then. But I want someone who can contribute right away. Don't see that happening from many DEs in this draft. We really have no edge rusher outside of Lawrence and no interior rusher outside of T. Craw.

The best hope to enhance the rush from the draft is to get more interior rushers versus edge defenders. Those are far more plentiful (especially in this draft) and tend to have a shorter time frame to get up to speed.

I agree. I've been wanting to get two DTs for months now. I've been saying two in the first two rounds for a while. But that's under the impression that we resign Hardy or get a starting caliber veteran DE. We can't rely on a rookie D-lineman. We need to solidify our starting D-line (3 of 4 spots already are) and add depth via the draft (the draft is heavy in DTs this year).

T. Crawford, Thornton, Irving, Lawrence might be our day one starters until Gregory returns from suspension.

Right now, we have no one on the roster until week 5 that is a true starting DE candidate. And Chris Long is in NE and unlikely to sign. Are we putting all our eggs in the Bosa basket (a mistake even if he's available)? I truly dont understand our strategy, unless there is a handshake deal with Hardy in place (for the vet minimum with incentives if he does not get another offer).

IF it was up to me, and I probably would be fired after my first year, I would see if Chris Long signs in NE and if he doesn't I would make an attempt to sign him. My thinking would be once Gregory gets back we could have him on a rotation basis. I also would wait to see if Hardy signs with someone and if he would agree to a reasonable contract with clauses to make sure he arrives to work on time.... I would bring him back. have a four man DE rotation. If not then my next plan is to slide Irving out to DE and try to find one in the draft. The only FA I would be interested in at DE besides Hardy is Gillett who was on IR for the Skins last year.

My best guess? I think the Dline will look like this:

Starters: DE: Lawrence 1T: Thornton 3T: Crawford DE: Hardy/Long
Backups: DE: Gregory/Draft pick 1T: McClain 3T: English Crawford DE: Irving

More of a question vs. a suggestion, what about Aldon Smith in November?

I think Thornton will prove to be a good signing. But he is more of a Hayden replacement than someone who could give a breather or push Crawford.

So we can play suspension BINGO between him and Gregory? LOL. I wouldnt mind signing him because of his talent, but if we're not going to sign Hardy, I doubt we wait until November to sign Smith. We need the most help the first 4 games of the season when Gregory is suspended...

That I enjoy keeping it fun vs stressing over things that have no barring on my life. Football is a sport I enjoy watching. Nothing more. If the Cowboys win or lose, it will not affect my life the next day. I will still have to go to work, still have to pay my bills, still have friends and family to talk too, it will not affect my income. (I do not gamble) Nothing will change for me. So, why be so uptight and stressed about something that will have no real impact on my life? I don't. I keep life fun which is what everyone should do.

Actually research has shown that if you speak your mind that is healthier than holding in your negative thoughts and pretending that everything is fine

On the other hand if you are 'simple' and don't even realize that there are problems with the team, then you go girl.... You rock!!!

Oh I completely agree that speaking your mind is important and health. The point was, if all you spew is negativity. Odds are very good you will end up with high blood pressure and possibly a heart attack. Negativity is a sign of being all wound up / unhappy. Happy people are generally relaxed.

I largely agree but what gets termed "negativity" here is actually "fact" and "reality". I don't think that viewing things factually and realistically and stating your opinion is bad for your health

So does Mincey or practically any other DE that could be signed in the dreg days of free agency.

This is what the "wait and see" approach gets you.

Works fine, the majority of the time, in cases like the stock market as a passive investor.

In the NFL, it gets you Chris Long, and a couple bucks on the cap.

Not likely. Most people's states of mind is a reflection of those around him/her. While there is a lot of negativity on this board, his is more than most. (otherwise I wouldn't have pointed that out) That means his comes from somewhere else. Most likely outside of CBZ. His state of mind just bleeds over on to this board.

Excuse my negativity. I suffer from advanced-delusional-paranoid-anxious-schizophrenia, w/ involuntary-narcissistic-rage.
