Morris will start. DMC will be the "3rd down back" or come in on obvious passing downs. Morris as a runner is DeMarco Murrayesque. 4th and 2 in the Red Zone or 3rd and goal will be no problem with him in our backfield.

No way Morris starts. He is not effective in the passing game. McFadden is and has better speed. Morris will be used for the tough yards.

McFadden or Morris?

I haven't watched too much of Morris except when the Cowboys played the skins. I know he's a good downhill runner but I'm not too sure how well he can block. If it turns out McFadden is the better blocker, maybe Morris starts and DMC comes in on 3rd down and passing situations.

Either way, I see them evenly splitting carries as the skill set each one brings is different. DMC is speed and Morris is power. I think whoever is the better blocker and who can pick up the blitz better will be the 3rd down back, as bass ackwards as that seems.

neither really. the backfield of morris, mcfadden and dunbar will excite any NFL history buff but anyone looking for great things this year has reason to expect disappointment. while i'm glad we didn't run after matt forte or another aging vet getting 1 more paycheck, to date morris has really been a one-year-wonder. there's a reason washington kept looking after a surprising rookie season and didn't bring him up to be all that AND their sole bucket of chicken.

at this point we have a "serviceable" team and that's nice. not a winning team but serviceable. however, since i have no expectations going into this year other than to see how quickly it falls apart, i'm really to the "whatever" stage. i was not and am not asking for major blockbuster signings. those seldom pan out and only are fodder for endless threads of the genius vs stupidity of the move. then the stupidity of the thread itself.

the only excitement we really have left is the #4 pick overall and the saddest part of this, it really won't matter who they pick. i will put down $$$ (or the forum equivalent thereof in a signature bet) you will see:

1) 10 threads on the same page because no one can participate in the same thread
1a) a massive merge.
1b) again
2) people who love the pick
2a) people who hate the pick
2b) people who will rationalize the pick into liking it or hating it
1c) a massive thread merge

but in the end, we do need to replace gregory. i had high hopes for the dude and heard early about his toking habits but figured hey, he sounded sincere when he apologized. :) so we already need to replace him. that genius and hell of a lucky hit last year is this years albatross.

but as far as who is the starter between these 2?

does it really matter?

this is about the only way it makes sense. we have mcfadden as our starter, morris as the short yardage guy, and dunbar out of the flat.

the amazing part is we as fans know what they will do based on player, but no way can the teams prep for such talent and stealth of positions. :)

man, i woke up negative this morning.... :)

simple let them determine who the starter is at camp. Battling for position is the way it should be.

McFadden is my starter for Weeks 1-3. Then after he gets nicked up, Morris for weeks 4-10 to then be replaced by our stud 3rd or 4th round pick.

DMC. If they get a decent lead though, heavy dose of Morris.

This has been proven to be false. How many times has Morris personally ate us up in the screen game. Did you not see the video Reality posted. He is fine in the passing game, Washington just didn't pass to their rb all that much

If Morris is not going to start, I don't know why they signed him. Morris is not a change of pace type back. Hes the type of back that need some carries to get going and is best as a bell cow. I hope that the FO is planning on him taking the Murray role via 2014. If they try to use him to spell DMC, he will be just as ineffective as he was last year in Washington. This would be the perfect signing, though, to give him 25-30 carries and run him into the ground for the next couple of years.

That's your opinion. 47 receptions in 64 career games played. Last year, McFadden had 40 receptions in 16 games. McFadden has speed in the passing game, Morris doesn't.

One thing I noticed when looking at Morris' career stats, I was surprised that he had a slight issue with ball security (11 fumbles, 7 lost) in four years. Compare that to Murray who had 13 fumbles and 10 lost in the same time frame.

Good thing is that Morris did not have any last year, which might mean he's squared that issue away.

This.

I doubt he signs with Dallas if he was not promised the opportunity to earn a starting job. It's his job to lose.

Don't think it matters. As long as McFadden and Morris don't decline rapidly or get injured, we'll be rotating them throughout the game, unless one starts to dominate.
Think we would of done it more last year, but Turbin was a late add, and by then McFadden was playing at a high level.

Dmac will start because as stated he is better in the pass game
But I think both will get a good amount of carries

Good player/poor fit. Nothing personal, he just doesn't run their scheme. Like a great 3-4 Nose Tackle for a 4-3

===

Exactly what Sturm has been saying since McFadden was signed. Poor zone runner. Had a good season last year as we accommodated more man blocking to help him out.

There is a reason they were so infinitely patient with Randle. He knew how to run behind zone blocking.

Now we sign a zone runner. I fail to see how this cannot be viewed as a threat to McFadden.
