One of my good friends growing up works for Yahoo Sports and I occasionally Skype him every now and then when life affords the pleasure. Here's some draft snippets for you of things he's heard during his daily activities. As always, these are just rumors and not the gospel:

Don’t believe any of the Ramsey -> Titans talk. They’ve locked in on Tunsil at #1 and he’s basically their pick. He didn’t need to run a 40 as the Titans could care less. Mariota needs a bookend and he’s a no-brainer.

Wentz is going to be a Brown. He checks every box for them. He’s tailor-made for the AFC North and they’re prepared to stake their future on him.

Draft really begins at #3 with San Diego and their pick is basically for sale. A case could be made that the next 5-6 picks could go in any order and San Diego is looking to maximize value vs. target anyone.

Dallas is a wildcard. Seems attached to either Bosa, Ramsey or Buckner at #4, would guess that Ramsey would be their guy if that occurs. Thinks they would trade out to the teens if it meant grabbing some more premium picks.

Goff is really polarizing. Teams either love him or want him to stay far away. Thinks he could slip into the teens come draft day.

A lot of teams view Derrick Henry as a one-contract guy, don’t think he’s got a lot of mileage on the tires because of his running style. Some skepticism of drafting him too high if you might only get 4-5 productive years out of him.

Jaylon Smith is being removed from some team’s boards entirely. Thinks that a team will take him in the second as the talent is there, but major concerns that he’ll only be a shell of the guy in college.

The Rams are bearish on Foles amounting to anything. Paxton Lynch wouldn’t get passed them as Kroenke wants to make a splash into the LA market.

Closing thought: Dallas won’t take a QB until the third day at best. Outside of Wentz/Goff, the class is full of mediocre talent and that JJ’s the type to kick the can down the road, take a prospect that might need some work in a valiant effort to say that they’re addressing the problem while really just playing the lottery.

My heart wants to believe the Jones aren't that stupid but my head says they are and that they'll pass on a first round QB and then sell whatever bum they pick in the 3rd round or later as the guy they really believe can develop into Romo's replacement.

Sadly, you are probably right.

If the team doesn't believe Goff is a franchise QB then it shouldn't take Goff.

I would prefer in that case to take the "bum" in the third round and see if he can be developed rather than waste the fourth pick on a guy the team doesn't believe is any better (if that's the case).

What I see a lot of is fans preparing to call the Joneses stupid if they don't take a first-round QB, no matter how their scouting department feels about those QBs. I consider it smart to follow the advice of your scouting department. If the scouts end up being wrong, then you need new scouts.

If the Browns pick Wentz and we pass on Goff, the FO are fools, plain and simple. The only way I would pass is if some team gives me a great trade offer. If it is the Rams than I want their 2016 1st, 2017 1st, and both 2016 2nds. Maybe too much but I am greedy and based on previous years trade (Commanders trade for Griffin; Eagles proposed trade for Mariotta) I think it would be fair.

Assuming Wentz is gone, are you a Goff fan at 4th overall?

Yes. And here's why.

From most accounts, it appears worst case, Goff is a Top 10 pick in this draft, which means other teams have him with a high value tag. So taking Goff at 4 isn't exactly a massive stretch or reach.

Also, how often has Dallas had a Top 5 pick? How likely is it that in 3 years when we need a new QB, we are going to have another Top 5 pick?

Just a guess here but I suspect that Dallas probably sees both Wentz and Goff as upper first round talents but they will get dinged because they don't believe they need to take a QB today because they truly believe Romo is going to handle the QB spot for 3-4 years.

They'll take a project in the 3rd round or later and then if that guy fails, which they probably know is likely to happen, they just think that in 3 years they can find their QB in that draft.

Exactly.

If Jones overdrafts a QB, he is an idiot who repeated his Quincy Carter mistake.

If Jones takes BPA, he is an idiot who wouldn't fill a big hole on the roster.

Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't.

Except if Jones were to take Wentz or Goff at 4, that's really not overdrafting a QB as by almost all accounts, both are considered Top 10 worthy picks.

Just curious if you liked him. Some really don't.

If Dallas likes him that high, I have no problem with it.
If they think they an get him later and pick up an extra 2nd, I'd like that more.
But in the end, if there's a QB that they love...not just because he's a QB, but one they actually think is worth that top 5 pick...then you take the player.
I'm just not sure they love Goff enough for that.

You can lose with Kellen Moore or you can lose and give experience to someone who is supposed to be the future. What makes sense to you?

That wasn't the question.
I asked does he feel sure that Romo is going down for the count the very 1st month of the season.

He gave me an honest answer

I'm not in the "don't take a QB" camp...btw

The OP has the premise that Wentz is taken at #2 and assessments of Goff vary widely. If the Cowboys have Goff in the top ten, by all means take him at 4. If they have a second round grade on him its a complete overdraft to take him that high.
