Best part of this signing is we're not using a mid round pick on a back up interior offensive lineman.

Right Dallas? Right? Oh please God tell me I'm right.

Can you spell draft flexibility boys and girls?

That's a pretty naive way to look at it. Money doesn't matter in free agent signings? Just whether the guy can play?

You do realize there's such a thing as a salary cap right?

I'll never be on one of these guys who just belches out good move simply because I read Cowboys sign. Tell me the deal. Then I'll give you my opinion on the deal. Seems fair.

The money is small enough for a spot starter solid backup as to be a non-issue. Come up with another way to diss the FO.

Yeah. When you saw "Cowboys" you knew.

Like when you saw any possibility of dissing the FO you just had to lend us your 'solid' insight into the signing. You don't know any more about the player than the rest of us.

How about the team saw enough in the player to issue a small contract reflecting the skills of a backup interior lineman who can play center and guard as well as spot start?

Instead of giving the team the benefit of the doubt you and your cronies lash out blindly and reflexively to every move they make. Then you run home after liking each others posts, patting each other on the back and giggling like little school boys discussing the genitourinary tract or the passing of gas.

IF the guy falls on his face then I will have no problem saying that one didn't work out well so let's find another solution to the problem.

You're a fan of yourself and not a very good Cowboys' fan despite your loud protests to the contrary of being a 'realist'. That's a shame because you are truly capable of meeting out fair and balanced criticism as well as anyone on this site.

Signing Looney has nothing to do with Leary.

Looney gives them a backup at center and guard. Leary is not a center. Leary could conceivably play some tackle, as he did at Memphis.

We definitely needed another lineman no matter what, but having Leary becomes something of a luxury: a starting-caliber player who won't even dress for games.

I don't mind having the insurance in case something happens, but his value for Dallas might be more what we can get for him than holding on to him for a year.

Unless you can get something significant for him the depth is worth keeping him. If a guard goes down he is a starter quality backup and could be starting any week

I don't disagree with that. But let's say we don't take a QB with the No. 4 pick and then one of the top two go off the board. Might we be willing to deal a luxury player to help us trade up and acquire Lynch? ... I know I'd be more willing to give up a backup guard than extra draft picks simply because we've got depth there.

Struggling to care about this very much. This was just protecting ourselves, but that's ok.

And I think we all know what sort of contract this is going to be. He's a young journeyman OL with a little bit of starting experience. We probably don't need to overreact to the word 'solid' around here. Or do we?

Yet we've seen how screwed we've been without a mediocre guy to plug in. We've had entire pre-seasons ruined because we didn't have a guy like this around to take snaps competently

So we got O-line covered. Probably won't do anything about RB. Not sure if we'll address TE this year. Could see us getting a WR. We'll see about QB. Defense still needs a lot of addressing.

Sure would like to see Chaz Green play before we check that RT box as "okay", but given our long list of pressing needs this off-season I imagine they will move on to other areas,,,

My last major concern for the offense outside the oft discussed backup QB and next franchise QB. Can't address them all at times but I'd sure like to have a warmer and fuzzier feeling about it.

Free played well last year and should have a full offseason... His first in awhile.

But agreed.... hopefully we didn't completely whiff on a 3rd rounder.

It's not just Free but Smith could get injured. We have dodged a bullet(s) on the OL lately for the most part. That won't last. We need at least a RT backup as Free can play LT even though many here will have the vapors over it.

He's simply a replacemet for a backup who split. Solid indeed, in that aspect of the roster.

So Leary and Looney are the backups inside. Brown and Green at OT. Still have Martin and Collins who can kick outside in case of emergency. Unless Free is a surprise cut, we probably won't see an OL drafted until very late. Perhaps they take a flier on an OG late.

You are most likely correct. However, if somehow, someway Laremy Tunsil drops to the #4 pick, that would be awfully hard to pass up.
I know Dallas needs help in many areas and not offensive line. I believe Tunsil is different though.
If he is the #1 guy on your board, then grab him!

Agree, but if he drops to 4 you have so many teams in need of a LT you could probably get several extra picks to move down a few spots and still get the player you were targeting initially.

Gotta say, I like the player and his talent level. Also, knowing Stephen and his leaning toward frugality these days, I kinda doubt Looney will be seriously overpaid.

I'm hoping to see something from Green this year too. It would be nice to know if we have our answer at swing tackle at least, if not our eventual replacement for Free.
