It cracks me up that Elliot fans just don't want to hear that he's not really in the plans for Dallas at 4. Literally the only people ever mentioning it at this point are fans who want it to happen, but everything the team has done at RB the last two years points in a different direction and they just won't have any of it.

And I'm not saying it to be critical. It literally cracks me up that it happens in every thread that the OP will list the practical list of likely targets and someone will come up within 5 posts or to and say 'don't for get Zeke!' and we all go 'yeah, yeah, and Zeke' and then keep talking.

Agreed.

It's like the thousand "AP" posts of last offseason.

He came out today and said the Eagles have shown the most pre-draft attention. Would be interesting if the Cowboys pulled the trigger at 4, because it doesn't look like he will make it past 8.

Just a hunch, but I don't think the Eagles are going to take him.

Nothing will surprise me in this draft. I guess that's the beauty of picking so high and having so many wild cards in this draft.

I firmly believe that there's a frog's chance in hell of the Cowboys taking Elliott at 4 given all they've said and done when it comes to the running back position.

But yeah, there is always the Jerry Jones wildcard at play come the draft.

I think people are really fooling themselves if they think anyone but Ramsey will be the pick. I guess there's a chance that someone takes him before we pick, but everything that has come out has indicated that he's near the top of our board. I don't see why, but there's too much smoke to ignore.

So the Cowboys have all of the top RB candidates in for a visit because they have no plans whatsoever to actually consider drafting one of them?

...Yep, that makes perfect sense!

I too am a big fan of having random people come visit me so I can buy them a steak and send them on their way with no plans whatsoever of ever seeing them again. That's my favorite.

I agree. They will take a RB if one falls to them or is in a comfortable range to trade into.
Can't see them using the 4th overall on a RB, but other than that--in a trade down or later round--anything is possible.

I think his point is that it's unlikely Zeke will be taken at 4 by the Cowboys if you watch what they say and do.

Cowboys always have visits and meet with multiple players that they know they likely won't draft unless some things shake up in the draft. So of course they would visit with a guy like Elliott. Doesn't mean he's a real target for them at 4. Maybe they are just looking at him in case a trade presents itself to them where they can move down to 10 and Elliott then would still be on the board.

Ideally, the Cowboys trade down and still get Zeke...I'm with you on that. Where there may be some separation in our opinions is that I honestly wouldn't be bothered if the Cowboys took Zeke at 4 amid the sneers and jeers of the "experts" who have no idea what individual team scouting departments are seeing in every player. I said it in another thread, there is no such thing as "too soon" for any particular position. The only question a team should be asking is what player helps the whole team more than any other player available? I'm not saying I'm right on this...I am definitely not an expert, but I honestly cannot think of anyone who will be available at 4 that helps the Cowboys more than Zeke could. If Goff slides, I retract that last statement.

I get that. I said it before - that would be ideal. My concern is hindsight of the last several drafts. There are places where they have gotten cute with draft day trades and lost out on their target. If they trade down past the Eagles, I'd say there is a very good chance they are going to miss out on Zeke. And if the Cowboys end up taking Bosa, it will be the Moss draft all over again.

Send them running when you state the fact that an unproven rookie running back would cost the team more money than what the top proven free agent running backs went for - in addition to costing the team the #4 overall pick. That always shuts them up.

Are you trying to win now or retool the Defense that's the Question. Win now "Zeke" retool Defense
than Jalen Ramsey or Bosa or Trade Down.

Why is retooling the defense and winning now apparently a mutually exclusive thing to you?

Moss was a generational talent who teams were scared of his off the field issues.

Elliott isn't that type of generational talent. He's just not.
