  • With the Cowboys 7-20 since Tony Romo took the team’s reins at quarterback in October 2006 in games where the now-36-year-old passer sits, Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News wonders if Dallas should trade back into the first round to potentially acquire Connor Cook or Christian Hackenberg. Gosselin envisions a scenario not unlike the one in 2011 that saw Jake Locker and Christian Ponder be selected earlier than most thought as an example that for Paxton Lynch being chosen earlier than expected now that the Rams and Eagles are likely to take QBs at Nos. 1-2. Should that occur, Gosselin envisions players like Cook or Hackenberg potentially being taken again before the Cowboys’ second pick (No. 34).
  • Robinson also points out (on Twitter) that Jerry Jones is a big Ezekiel Elliott fan, and that the Cowboys owner would prefer the Ohio State runner or Jalen Ramsey at No. 4. Conversely, Robinson connects the Cowboys front office as a whole to a choice between Ramsey and Joey Bosa.

"Jerry Jones

well, were not getting EE.

They should add that's it's not just Jones that likes Zeke, but Garrett and Linehan prefer him and that Rod is also fine with Zeke over Bosa. Still think if Ramsey is there, that's the pick.

Their is no way Cook and Hackenberg are gone by 34. If they are, good luck with that. That would mean that at least 4 QBs get taken in the 1st round and probably 5 because Tennessee and Cleveland are still picking the first two picks and neither of those teams seem like they are interested in a QB.

It seems he is saying that the FO as a whole prefer Ramsey or Bosa:

I have a feeling the pick will be Ramsey. I want Elliott but it just seems too good to be true. I wish Jerry would just do the right thing and step in and take Zeke, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

That's absolutely correct! It's much more than just Jerry Jones that want him. Several scouts are for him as well.

Should be interesting how things fall out on Thursday. Chargers essentially have the 1st pick and if it is Ramsey, Dallas goes Elliott or Bosa (I think Elliott would be the choice in that scenario). If the Chargers go Tunsil, then I believe Ramsey is the choice.

Would not be shocked at all if Denver takes one of the two and someone trades up to top pick in the second round in a panic to get the other.

After seeing some drafts of QBs that have went in the first round when they have no business being drafted there...it just does not shock me anymore.

EJ Manuel
Branden Weedon
Jake Locker
Ponder

I'm not overly impressed with Linehan wanting a RB. He wanted Ronnie Brown in Miami and he drafted him. Brown was a miss. He drafted Brian Leonard in the 2nd round in St Louis and the guy was gone by his 3rd season. He drafted Jahvid Best in the 1st round with Detroit and he was a miss. He drafted Michael Leshoure the next year and he was a bust. Fact is, Linehan has never hit on a RB in 14 years in the NFL as an OC or HC.

great points. I'm not a JJ fan, but the article makes it out that it's just JJ that wants him when we have all heard it's way more than just JJ.

Well BP, certainly anything is possible and if it does happen, we should not be counted among the Galactically Stupid who have done so IMO. I will say this, in the history of the NFL, there is only one time that 5 QBs have been drafted and that was in 83 where they actually took 6 and that's going back to 1937. I don't see it myself but you are right. Anything is possible.
