What Are Your Thoughts About The Draft

I wasnt set on a first rounder, had 4 or 5 I liked so I am fine with Elliott. He does improve us more than any single player. All the talent evaluators love him, other teams dont like it that we got him and he is much better than any of the other backs. If you are going to take a luxury pick, might as well get the best player at his spot.

I would have taken Ramsey and Jack....Jack wull help this year. Also liked Sheldon Day....would have liked Jax draft. It is over though, so just ready to move on with what we have.

As far as Smith, it is taking back to back luxury picks, but the only way to like it is we must be really sure that his recovery is on track. Having our team Dr as his surgeon hopefully gives more insight but remember that AP was ready to go after a similar timetable.

After that, the next three picks were pretty much by the book. Dt, De and backup QB. In reality, if you told me the 5 positions before the draft started these were probably the 5 I would have picked....maybe a S instead of LB.

With the last 4, getting depth at Cb was expected. The RB was a surprise, and the TE project seemed someone that had UDFA written all over him. The must have been excited about him though, because Broaddus got really excited when they picked him and said asst coach that worked him out was blown away at potential. Remember we used a second rounder on Escobar because he could be a red zone target...this guy is huge and could be a weapon.

All in all, I think we had a decent draft. Would have liked to see a WR or CB with return ability and a swing interior lineman. I really liked Austin Blythe late...Iowa lineman that is versatile inside...Colts ended up taking him later.

We got much better on the Offense.

Nothing we did in this draft would have helped the first 4 games of this season defensively....no Defensive rookie would have countered losing our two starting DE's.

If Romo,Dez,Zeke, and this o-line can win those games and our idiotic DE's can come back rdy to play game 5 ...... we should be better.

Elliot isn't the pick I would have made but he's a perfectly good pick. Should set the offense up to chew clock and continue drives hopefully. Its of course all dependent on Romo's health.

Smith I'm excited and apprehensive about. Obviously the team Doc had to give them a glowing report based off of his charts for them to take him there. Smith vs Jack seems like Smith if you're convinced that Smith is going to come back from the injury. Time will tell.

Collins and Tapper are physical players who you hope you can unlock, maybe you'd hope for a little more out of the 3rd round pick but that type of player seems like exactly who you should take in the 4th and later.

Prescott is a QB. Honestly hard to say too much about what he could be at this point. I suspect we're going to see 6-8 quarters of him this preseason.

The sixth rounders have a bunch of traits and hope that we can get ST play out of one or two of them and maybe Gathers can be taught how to run a route and maybe even block. If we get ST player out of one of them for a couple of years feels like a break even.

To put a grade on it, I'd say an in progress B. It'll go up or down based mostly on Smith.

Exciting is the best word I can come up with in what I considered a pretty boring draft class.

This draft was full of solid but not spectacular players at the top, and guys I thought would be useful pieces but not front line starters in the middle. Despite the #4 slot I was not excited at all about this draft.

Smith IMO has the highest ceiling of any player in the draft. He was a HUGE gamble but he's a game changer if he comes back full strength. I was pulling for Spence or Jack, but I like this pick better.

I'm actually glad our de's got snatched up in hindsight, and overjoyed that other teams bailed us out on Lynch and Cook.

We at least found some players with decent potential on day 3. Unlike most recent classes I at least have some hope for every guy we chose.

We can always find rotational guys on defense. We desperately need some impact players on that side of the ball. We chose guys who at least have a shot to provide some.

I'll give us a solid B+ with A+ potential.

You don't think Tapper, the DE isn't going to have an impact?

I think the kid is going to get a decent number of snaps this season. And for a 270lber who can run a 4.59 forty, he's going to help the pass rush.

Add Collins to this. A couple others have a chance to get a few snaps also.

Like every draft for every team, there is good, bad, and what the heck?

Elliott has a real shot at ROY. He also has the tool kit filled to the brim with posting a career where his name is mentioned with Dorsett and Smith. This will take major work on his part, but he has shown character and determination, which leads to belief he is capable of this type of work to the point it is almost expected.

J Smith is a bet on the come. Can he be what he was prior to the injury? Dallas seems to think they have the inside track on his healing,. If so, then this was a splendid move. If not, risk reward may have been worth it. Yet there will be those who will cry in their pillows over this pick.

Collins - sub package rotation guy that with the right amount of teaching could be good. Great may be out of reach for this guy. But great isn't needed at every position.

Tapper is another player that has a possibility of being in a rotation and valuable to this team. Never gonna be Von Miller. But could be a piece of the pie that succeeds. It's up to him and how hard he is willing to work and to sacrifice.

Prescott is a player that will show how well Tony Romo can teach what he does to his possible replacement. Has the tools. Some say he was beaten down the last two years. New day kid. This is not your college line of guys who will be bouncers or customers at the Big and Tall shop. These are real men protecting you. Now listen to your mentor Grasshopper and make smart decisions and use the physical talents you have.

Trust in Romo, you must.

Brown will play special teams and be in on dime packages. He is fast and tough, but unless he suddenly becomes Deion, he will be a specific role player with a chance of not making the team.

Frazier - again throwing something against the wall at safety to see if it sticks.

Jackson - here is an intriguing player. His speed married with his size makes him perfect for the counter punch for this team. His college performance was so-so, but then Eastern Michigan may be the Browns of college football. His ability and the possibility of the line getting him one on one with the second level makes him a nice pick-up for little risk.

Gathers was selected in a way that reminds me of Gil Brandt finding gems on the basketball courts. This could go either way, and the potential to go south for Dallas out weights his being a great find. But then you essentially gave nothing for him. For every sixth round pick that becomes a surprise and really good player, there are phone books filled with the ones who watch football and reminiscence about that fifteen minutes of fame when they were drafted by the Dallas Cowboys (or fill in the pro team name here.)

To be honest, I didn't love it and I didn't hate it but I'm certainly intrigued by it.

I'm really excited to see Elliott in this offense. Not a fan of the Smith pick. I could care less if the Patriots wanted him. I love the player but you don't spend a high second on a guy that may never play football again. You just don't. As said earlier, this draft added speed (and a lot of it). Honestly, day 3 was the most interesting of them all.
One thing I will say, if Jaylon Smith returns (and to form) this could be one of the best drafts the Boys have had in a while.

This draft almost hinges on the success of the first two players. This could be a home run or another dud by gambler Jerry.

There seems to be a clear trend to get bigger and more athletic.

Our first pick was a great pick that will no doubt help the team if health permits after that it's up in the air we'll just have to see. Didn't like the Jaylon Smith pick the Cowboys continue rolling the dice in the second round on injured players and it has yet to pay off. Not saying this one won't but there were a lot of healthy good players that were available with that high second round pick that could have helped us this year and for years to come but we gambled on a player who may never be the same after a serious injury.

A little too conservative.

I do think Jerry should've overpaid for Lynch even if it meant giving away their 2nd and 3rd. Then they could've spent the rest of the draft on improving the pass rush (Judon and Blair were my pet cats.) Maybe getting Day instead of Maliek.

I love the Zeke pick but the only way this draft can be considered an A is if Jaylon Smith has a full recovery. And that's a BIG if.

Thank God we didn't draft Ramsey. Would've been a total waste.

Smith in the highlights I saw reminds me of Clay Mathews!

Hope at least one of the D-Linemen can contribute this season.

In a couple years, I think we'll look back and say that was a damn good draft class!

My thoughts are we took a running back way too early to help compensate for our idiot coaching staff that can't win without Romo and passed on a superb defensive back. This was the ultimate win now move. We then took a huge gamble on a player in the second round who will probably miss most if not all of next season and has a chance of never playing again. This pick was the complete antithesis of win now. The rest of the draft was actually decent with players who have potential to really pay off but the ultimate grade depends on how the top two players ultimately perform. Anything less than 1500 + yards / 10 + touchdowns a season for the length of his tenure here from a running back taken in the top 5 is a MAJOR disappointment. Smith will have to be fully healthy by 2017 and playing to his potntial to justify the risk. the rest is gravy based on where they were taken. If Elliot and Smith pan out to where they should this will be an A+ draft, if not it is a definite F.

Here are my thoughts on our draft:
What I liked: That we weren't afraid to take the player (Zeke) that would help us the most, regardless where other teams may have had him ranked. I also liked that we are valuing speed again. Loved the fact we did not get Lynch.

What I didn't like: That we will have to wait a year for help from our 2nd round pick.

===================================================================================================================

Pick 4 - Zeke Elliott (RB). Probably my favourite pick since Tyron Smith. I get goose bumps thinking of what he is capable of doing behind this Oline. Smart, tough, does it all. Gives our entire team an identity, makes Romo's job easier. Pick your poison, stack 8 in the box or double Dez. We are going to road grade and I love that ####.

Pick 34 - Jaylon Smith (LB). Top 5 talent without a doubt. He is our future Mike LB. Again, like Zeke, he does it all. Runs like a rabbit, covers, hits. This pick ultimately will decide how we view this draft in years to come. If the knee heels, it's a freaking home run. This is like expecting to get an i.pod on Christmas morning, only to have your parents tell you that you get nothing this year, and that if you correctly guess a coin flip next Christmas you will get a Mac Book Pro.

Pick 67 - Maliek Collins (DT). Sure. OK. I liked other players better. Seems like a project/hobby for Coach Rod.

Pick 101 - Charles Tapper (DE). Suberb athlete. Tons of speed off the edge, needs some coaching and can be a contributor. Sets the Edge well and plays the run honestly.

Pick 135 - Dak Prescott (QB). Hard not to like this kid. Stock fell due to a DUI. Highly productive player, can run and scramble. I love his feet in the pocket. He has to work on his accuracy, touch, taking snaps from center and reading defenses. He will be a competent Back up with some upside to be potentially more. Very happy we missed Lynch and Cook in spite of our ourselves.
Pick 189 - Anthony Brown (CB). You can't teach 4.35. Decent sized and plays well in Zone. These are the kind of guys you need in a Tampa 2. Doesn't have to be a shutdown man guy.

Pick 212 - Kavon Frazier (SS). Love this pick. Very high SPARQ scores. In the box SS, I think he has a shot to start and be a ST contributor. This kid is a big hitter.

Pick 216 - Darius Jackson (RB). Hated this pick. That is until I watched some of his highlights and game clips. Big, fast, powerful. 4.35 at 220 with a 41 inch vert. Another potential ST player.

Pick 217 - Rico Gathers (TE). An amazing specimen, a freak athlete who is a giant/huge project. This dude is 6'9, great/huge hands and runs like a deer. If anyone can teach this guy Football, you could have a GEM. We have a great TE coach, I hope he can develop this guy.

This team is instantly a favorite to win the division, based on Zeke, a healthy Dez/Romo and with some minor changes to the D. I see a 10 to 11 win team.

Mine:

- We got better defensively. Just maybe not this year so much. Collins and Tapper are good peices to our defensive line. Tapper could be our LDE in 2017. Lets just hope DLaw suspension was a 1 time deal

- We regain our 2014 offensive identity. Zeke, Romo and Bryant allow us to dictate the tempo of the game to the defense. I believe this makes us NFCE favorites.

- Prescott means almost nothing in terms of the search for a QB of the future. They made a big effort to land Lynch and came up short. And Cook was apparently the target in the 4th. The QB search did not fall there way this year, and I give them credit for both 1) Making a push for the guy they wanted ( Lynch) 2) Not giving up the 2017 first to get him, which not having a 5th year option to offer was likely going to be what it took to get Lynch. Prescott is a long term backup they probably hope can sub for a starter if he gets hurt. I think he is going to have to be utter gangbusters for them to call off the QB search

- The DBs are intriguing, but we did kick that can down the line. IMO it was they way to go. Build the front 4 then move to the back end

- Maybe a lazy comparison, but I see a little Karlos Williams in Darius Jackson

Garrett said Tapper will be looked at for RDE.

I don't consider myself a draft guru, but I like what they did overall.

Understand the Zeke pick, although I thought our offense would of been good enough with a healthy Romo and a RBBC.

The Smith pick is a worthy boom or bust pick. Can become a top LB in the game.

Didn't mind Dak in the th, even when I wasn't a fan of drafting him in general. Rather him than Cook.

The running back pick I was stumped on till I saw his stats. No one is a lock at RB(besides Zeke)

Good NFL teams don't draft this way
Even the Zeke pick is questionable. Players like Perkins, Dixon and Booker picked in rds 3-4 May have better pro careers
And there were starters on the board at 34 where we picked an absolute prayer

Really really weak drafting

Well anything "may" happen, but I would wager that barring injury Zeke will have the best pro career of those mentioned.

He does everything well and has the right attitude as well.

I agree with the Smith pick but reading his medical reports he might not be quite the gamble we first imagined.

As for the pass rush, who in this draft class that we could have picked is going to give us 10+ sacks in his first year?

Solid - with huge upside.
Just want to make 2 comments on the 2 headscratcher picks.
1) Smith - this guy is gonna be my guy !
So, what I heard was, the difference between Smith and Jack is that our doctors think Smiths knee will get better, Jacks knee will get worse. Simple logic - take the guy who will get better.
2) Jackson the RB, sparc player. Is a pick for after McFadden is done. ST this year, backup Zeke next.

Usual draft we have seen the last several years. One pro bowl starter and many hopes and dreams. If four of nine are on the roster and contributing in three years it was a successful draft.
