Hey guys... As continuation to my normal draft thread. I wanted to do an in-depth film review of Charles Tapper and Maliek Collins. Here is Tapper first:

Charles Tapper 6'3 271 lbs

Pros:
Position flexibility, moves both to the right and left side. Very physical, strong guy that knows how to use his hands. Incredibly stout, absorbs contact and doesn't move. Plays with leverage frequently getting under offensive tackles' shoulder often times putting them on the ground. Excellent motor and pursuit, constantly battles his rear off often times making the tackle 20, 30 yards downfield. Really powerful lower body. Shows an ability to disengage and be a real factor in the run game. Really good bull rush that puts lineman on the skates. Shows an ability to get in QB's vision and disrupt plays with his arms.

Cons:
Sometimes gets involved in too many hand battles. Don't always see the great athleticism numbers on the tape. Doesn't win the 1 on 1 match ups you would like to see. Tries to run around guys too often, rather then through them or trying to beat them. Too reliant on his bull rush, rarely wins other ways. Needs to develop more pass rush moves.

What to Expect:
Tapper plays in a very interesting system where he lines up in a frog stance with both hands on the ground on most snaps. He plays in a very weird formation a lot of times, playing square over tackles rather then on their outside shoulder. The few times he does play outside or even in a wide 9 stance, he is much more effective. Even noticed a few snaps where he moved inside to 3 tech, and he was incredibly explosive from that spot. Tapper is a very interesting player with some traits. I think he is most fit to play LDE with his traits. He shows some pass rush ability, but needs to refine it and broaden his game. With his athleticism, strength and motor, he will get better and better with the right coaching and using him in the right situations. Really excited about this pick after watching several of his tapes now.

Bryan Broaddus? you guys give him wayyy to much credit. If he knows that much why is he not in a front office somewhere.

Good review. I know that you see him as a LDE, but the Cowboys think he can play RDE as well. That's probably where he will be needed for the first four games.

That alone makes him hard to evaluate. He is beat before the ball is even snapped.

What kind of rush moves and other things is he supposed to show when he is squatted down and stands straight up when the ball is snapped?

Tapper is a hard evaluation because he played in a defense that isn't seen in the NFL. Playing in a 4 point stance as an undersized 5 technique (Oklahoma plays a 3-3-5 base defense) really limits the strengths of a guy like Tapper. The good news is, with his large hands, it taught him how to hand fight and hold the point of attack. The bad news is that it completely negated his first step quickness and speed. I think that he can be a real sleeper, but he is a little raw.

Bryan Broddus is way overrated sometimes his comments don't make sense and there are reasons hes unemployed in an NFL Scouting job.

They seem to play him in read and react rather than letting him use his attacking rush ability. That's what stunted his draft position. I think we got a steal with this guy. I love that he is thick, strong, and yet still explosive and a motor to chase a play all the way down the field. Very Greg Hardy-ish from a playing stand point.

I agree too.I mentioned in the other thread that he seems to be a good LDE candidate but the cowboys want to try him at RDE first.
If we really hit on this guy then we all need to thank the raiders for moving in front of us and taking Connor Cook.

These back to back statements conflict. :)

They don't conflict. He does both...when he does face up and play he generally only wins with his bull rush. But all too often he's on stunts or running away from tackles. Not sure if that is coached to him, or he does it on his own. It's generally 1 of 2 things with him, either bull rush or stunting or running away from the tackle trying to get lost in the shuffle. Not conflicting

See comment above ⬆️ amazed that I try to do something nice for the board and all I get is backlash. Some of u never cease to amaze

Keep posting opinions man. Don't get upset.

Many on here criticized me for thinking Wentz was a top 5 pick.

No need to get upset about it.

Tries to run around guys too often....reliant on running through them (bull rush).

Those do conflict.

Its like if I said "I try to run too often; I'm reliant on walking slow"...doesnt add up.

Its ok though...the rest was still good analysis.

In the few OU games I was able to watch, Tapper made plays inthe game. I am far from a Big12 guy/fan but for me to remember his name/game, speaks volumes.

I also had Tapper on my mock draft as well so I like this mid draft pickup and believe Marinelli will make him productive atleast by his 2nd season if not earlier.
