Mayowa, Russell, Tapper, Irving

Well for one, I'd be on the phone with Freeney ASAP. He's not great but he could plug a hole for us for a season.

But in reality, the time to find better solutions at DE for this coming season has probably passed.

I think it's fairly clear at this point the front office has botched upgrading the DE position, something they said was a need this offseason.

It's such so cliche to say but usually when a guy is out there he's not good anymore especially someone in their mid 30s. Freeney is not the answer to the people who hate our lack of talent on the defensive line. This team has used their premium picks on This offensive line and on Elliot this year which is why we don't have much first round talent on the defensive end.

Freeney almost had a double digit sack season a year ago.

We're not looking for an answer. We just need a band-aid right now.

what aspect? Using free agency to find talent? If that's what you mean then I def. agree.

Picking over scraps that someone else cut and didn't want, which is where this team currently finds themselves.

To start the season with DLawrence and Gregory suspended:

Russell..........TCrawford.........Thornton.........Mayowa
JCrawford.......Irving...............TMcClain.........Tapper
......................Collins...............

Well if they weren't planning for it with Gregory then they're stupid.

You have to be planning for that to be a possibility with a guy like him. If you're not then you're just flat out stupid.

The possibility of someone doing something stupid is always present with any player. The FO took a risk on a player with top 10 talent that they drafted late in the 2nd round (great value).

I'm sure they set him up for success, he just didn't do his part. I don't fault them for taking that type of risk.

I agree. I don't see Freeney as a long term solution I see him as a vet who can still produce and provide much needed depth on this defensive line. People are worried he will take snaps away? lol I'm worried we do not have enough talent or intelligent players we can depend on along the DL. I would jump on Freeney if it were my call to make.

You aren't looking for a primo talent at this point. You are looking for a serviceable vet that can help a little in the pass rush department. Freeney is that type of guy. No one is thinking you are going to find a 10 sack guy on the street, but you can probably get 6 or so sacks out of Freeney next year which would be a help.

JJ Watt just had back surgery and will be out maybe 10 weeks. And according to the Texans roster, the Texans are trotting out rookie Joel Heath, rookie Ufomba Kamalu, 2nd year Jeoffrey Pagan, and rookie Dan Pettinato as DEs. I never heard of those four players. Are the Texan fans having a conniption?

Considering they play a 3-4 and have Mercilus and Clowney in their LB core I would think they are probably not overly worried about their pass rush from their DEs.

Irving is at left end now. He's been battling Russell for that starting spot. Broaddus is predicting he wins it. Jack is doing both.

Practice what you preach.

If you "can't blame them" for what they haven't done, don't try to praise them for what they haven't done either.

What are you talking about, I'm not praising anybody. Learn reading comprehension

Looks like an unmitigated disaster quite honestly, if these guys are all forced into significant roles. The front office is fooling themselves thinking all of these guys pan out. If we are fortunate, maybe 2. This team is in dire need of an experienced pass rushing DE. Freeny should already be at the new training facility signing a deal.

I was always really good at reading comprehension in school. I didn't take that as praise, the key word there is might.

Sure, so it's OK to speculate about them being good, but not about them not being good.

Got it.

"Unknown" has every bit the same chance to absolutely suck than to "break out with double digit sacks".

The problem is that some fans can't accept that reality.

Clowney? He's been a steaming pile of garbage since he was drafted. Epic bust so far. And didn't he have microfracture surgery, or something? I wouldn't be counting on Clowney for anything. And the Texans don't have much in the middle other than Wilfork when I glanced at their roster.
