You don't think Tony will be on the sideline chirping in Dak's ear the entire time? Romo might as well take over Wade Wilson's job at this point.

If he's got a back problem, he's likely not travelling with the team

my hypothetical

2016: dak plays well. Romo gets healthy. dak continues to be the starter. romo backs him up the rest of the season

2017: dak/romo battle it out.

2018 romo retires regardless if hes been starter or not

Tony Romo's cap hit (dead cap) next 3 yrs:
$20.835 ($31.935) million in 2016;
$24.7 ($19.6) million in 2017;
$25.2 ($8.9) million in 2018.

I knew when he signed that deal...It was gonna bite us...And here it is:banghead:

This really sucks for Dak. Because he could have used the extra time to ease himself into the game more and not throw him out there. Hopefully it doesn't ruin our future QB.

I don't understand this line of thinking from some fans. Either you can play or you can't play in this league. So far Dak has shown that he can likely play.

Plus there are quite a few recent examples of rookie QBs who have immediately come in and played well.

Dak has an outstanding supporting cast around him. I don't expect him to perform like Romo in his prime but I could easily see him put up a season similar to Russell Wilson's 2012 season.

I said he'd be paid for this season....obviously he wouldn't be paid for years when he's not on the roster.

As far as changing a 6 week fracture into a career ending injury, I don't even know where you're going with that. Not sure if you're saying Tony's injury couldn't be considered career ending or what.
you only reach injury settlements with guys that actually injured....Tony's fracture will heal in 6-10 weeks.....it is not a career ending injury by any means....they won't owe him any more money after this year but will have huge cap hits whether he retires, stays or get cut

Doesn't mean anything in regards to Romo himself. He's on the roster this year and the dead money is less than his scheduled cap charge after this year so there's nothing to prevent the team from cutting him.

Does suck because the team will have less available space to use to build around Dak, but this is the consequence of restructuring his contract a half-dozen times or so.

for dak to be successful the whole team is going to have to play really well and not make there usuall stupid mistakes when they have chances to make plays they are going to have to make them like not drop passes and drop sure interceptions make plays to help him out it will take the whole team if not there will be huge changes in dallas next season as far as players and most likely coaches nfl talking head eric davis says that if garrett don't figure out a way to win more than one game without tony he probably wont survive .

I dont think this will ruin Dak. But yes there have been guys that werent ready and it very well could have ruined them. David Carr was afraid of his shadow before he was done lol.

Dallas doesn't owe Romo any more guaranteed money.....if he retired they would not owe him a dollar and he would not owe them anything....he is making 8.5m this year and is scheduled to make 14m next year.......he has 19.6m in Dead Cap space after this year...... all of this may force Dallas to cut him as a post June 1st designee once he healthy next Spring....if he retires due to injury the full 19.6m dead money cap hit could hit next year.....it would actually be a savings of 5.1m off his scheduled cap hit if healthy and would take care of all the Dead Money in one year

He will go on the IR this year and get his full salary.....he can't go on the PUP since he practiced....one player a year is allowed to come off the IR after 6 weeks and that could be Romo.... we have around 8m in useable cap space right now before the Rule of 51 expires on Sept 8th....that is enough to get a decent QB2-3......

One minute the Cowboys have the luxury of not needing a Backup QB, the next minute they are hard pressed to find a backup QB....The NFL changes so fast now days.

sickening cap management, literally adds insult to injury.

If I can dream, Dak takes the Russell Wilson path and quickly kills our fears but Romo is able to come back and play enough to allow them to trade him for perhaps a pick and the cap relief (if thats even possible)

I'm so bummed for Romo

And you know this how?
I said kick was a maybe, and being slammed down on but then bent over like that could hurt many players. and would fit compression fracture.
It wasnt a simple hit.

I watched the video, Romo was trying to slide down on is butt at the same time Avril was trying to tackle him from behind and he wasn't slammed down, it was the fact that he didn't slide on the turf when he hit the ground,.... I sustained the exact same injury....and reports on Romo stated it was a compression fracture of the L1

Can we get a full Romo Injury list? Anyone? I tried looking it up but having trouble compiling one with proper terminology. My guess is the list is long. Is this the longest injury list for a starting QB or QB in NFL? If not has to be close.

You would lose a lot of respect for someone who has suffered multiple back and neck injuries retiring?

No. For any guy who would be willing to stand around being a $20 million backup/non-player just to collect his money.
