Stephen Jones optimistic after Cowboys ‘exceed’ preseason expectations

Just wondering how exactly did they exceed expectations?

Dak played like a first-round quarterback. That's more than Dallas had any right to expect.

Dak played better than they thought he would....that's all I can think of. Otherwise Pre-season has been a disaster. We lost our starting QB again.

I like this team quite a bit, too. I have a hard time figuring out how good I think they're going to be, but we have a lot of interesting parts. Not the least of which are the rookie offensive skill players. But even the DL rotation I"m looking forward to seeing how they play.

So ezekiel Elliott hasn't looked good, Witten or Dez? Scandrick back from injury Lee is healthy. OL looks devastating......no you only think Dak

I'm very optimistic also.

There's a ton to be excited about this year. We're a young team with some very bright spots, especially on offense.

Defensively, we have a few holes, but I think we'll be pleased once they gel and hit their stride.

I think if we turn to the running game and grind out some really long drives,it'll fire up our D and they'll be a real force.

Regardless, I am thrilled another season is upon us and look forward to discussing our Cowboys with you fine folks.:)

Nothing matters if you don't have a QB. We might have lucked out on one but until the season starts we don't know. One good season in the last 6 years and I'm supposed to be impressed. Like I said I am impressed with Dak and I am hopeful....just have to wait. Dez looked good...Lee Seriously? Maybe he's healthy maybe he's not. Elliott looked good in the little he played. It all falls on the QB though.

Yea they exceed preseason expectations by showing they had a 2nd QB in their back pocket.

That about sizes it up. Not a great start to the new season. Plenty of questions especially regarding the defense where the big games are won and lost. Very interesting season coming up. I really cant wait.

And our regular starter has really taken us far. Please. Show them how it's done Dak.

That wasn't the question though. The original comment said Dak was the only one that looked good, then I named the others. Has nothing to do with who is more important. Please read the comment someone is replying to before making a comment based solely on what that person said

Tell you what..the offense will do alright. The defense will kill the Cowboy chances. The defense is just not good enough. Simple.

Lol. Me neither and I think I have just delayed it. I call it like I see it don't matter to me one way or the other unless they try to block the cooler. :muttley::dance:

What he could have meant -

  • they may have found their QB of the future against all odds ... in the 4th round
  • the running game could be 90's Cowboys dominant.
  • the defense, instead of getting steamrolled in training camp day in and day out by the best offensive line in football as most would have expected, held it's own
  • Claiborne looks like a player helping boost a much improved secondary
  • overall team depth is better than in the past excluding a few troublesome eyesores

Doesn't mean it will all work out to mean much. There are warts too. There is that very questionable pass rush and losing Romo any other year is a deal-breaker, maybe this year too. One of those eyesores is DE, not my first choice at where I'd want to be paper thin at. And I still question that 11th starter on offense, they still haven't found a perfect fit there since "Moose" it seems like.

Saying all that, this team has a certain toughness and a mix of 'ole wily veterans and youthful exuberance that I can't wait to see hit the field personally.

I said other than Dak I don't know what Stephen could have seen that had us exceed expectations. We already know the OL is good. I'm not surprised Elliott played well but he and Dez didn't really play that much in the pre-season. Maybe Morris would be another that surprised me. Don't get me started on the defense. So I'll revise it to include Morris. People do this every year until the season starts. We just have to wait and see.

I think Claiborne shows tons of improvement. Olatoye played well in 3 games, Nzeocha played decent before injury
