He's not far off. Not advanced enough to know if he's being taken out of the gameplan immediately by other teams, or if he's just a horrible route runner or facing CONSTANT double teams.

Then you move him into the slot like AZ has done with Fitzgerald. Then again, Fitz catches damn near everything thrown to him.

Last season wasn't a big enough sample?

He was injured last year and IIRC he even said he came back before he should have.

You guys can whine, moan or be "concerned" about one game this year if you want.

I don't think one game makes a career nor a season.

As I said earlier...this is the same kind of lame thinking that has had people wanting us to get rid of a pro bowl future HOF player like Witten over the last 5+ years and yet he just keeps plugging along.

What's concerning is he was playing on that foot last season when he shouldn't have been. He said it himself he shouldn't have been playing on it but he did it for the fans. Who knows what damage he might have done by continuing to play on a foot that wasn't fully healed. He had foot and ankle surgery at the end of last season and he looked like the worst receiver on the field yesterday for both teams. They showed some of his routes yesterday and the defender was glued to him all day. He's become frustrated that he can't get away from anyone.

He's never been a great route runner or a fluid runner but he used to be able to get some separation but nowadays practically every throw to him is a contested jump ball. No one looks at him as a top 5 receiver anymore. He was bent on trying to prove he was back to form yesterday but he can't get open. All he's good for is jump balls and he's having trouble hanging on to those. He has the ball all the way to the ground and allows it to come loose. As for Witten he's never had a problem getting open and moving the chains, it's just that some complain about his lack of speed and athletic ability but he still shows up every week.

I am torn b/w thinking Dez is overrated or if the coaching staff is terrible at designing and calling plays to get him the ball. Or both. Here's some stats I just looked up for # of 100 yard games in the last 2 seasons + yesterday for some of the top WRs. Dez is at the bottom.

Dez 5/26
AJ Green 9/33
Julio Jones 16/33
Antonio Bryant 17/32
Odell Beckam, Jr. 15/33
Brandon Marshall 12/33
Demaryius Thomas 14/33

5 times he's had a 100 yard game, which means he's either not getting open/separation, or not getting enough targets or both. For the $ they're paying him, it's on the coach's and him to get that value. So far, they're getting well, well below value.

The only reason that was a contested jump ball is it was about 2 seconds late getting there and floated. He was wide open!

If you can find the video we'll see if he was open.

I'm not going to say I'm tired of Dez or anything like that. It's one game this season.

But I will say that I am starting to become a little bit worried that Dez never seems to show up big at times where he's really needed to the most.

Yesterday would have been a fantastic time to impose his will and be the beast he can be but instead he was held to 1 catch and was a non-factor.

Dez is not the problem his head coach is the problem. The system is terrible. "take what the defense gives you" allows teams to take Dez out of the game. It happens all the time.

I wish I could like this twice.

The only thing on this offense that displays complexity is the OL/run game.

The passing game and the decision making when putting in the plays are atrocious.

"Tyron Smith just left the game and Chaz Green is in? Let's pass the ball!"

This offense has literally every element, but these morons do NOT know how to take advantage of their own talent.

Get Whitehead in Space. Protect Dez with Butler. Use your receiving out of the backfield. And for god sakes if I see a running back split out wide again, I'm going to lose it.

Go to the 1:44 mark, the ball was thrown right when it needed to be as Dez got open but it was going to result in a jump ball no matter how you look at it because Dez was in the corner of the end zone and had to go up for the ball to stay in bounds. He couldn't just keep running to gain separation on that play because he ran out of room and had to go up for the ball which allowed the defender to contest it. Dez had the ball all the way to the ground but it came loose and although it didn't appear the ball touched the ground by the time Dez regained control of the ball he was OB.

The blue print is already set in stone. Very simple. Put a safety over the top on Dez and he is out of the game. Garrett wont move him around so he is done. Load the box and limit the run. They will give us over the middle one on one coverage with Witten and Beasley because those guys are pretty much catching the ball for 4-10 yards and then falling down. Cant get hurt two badly with those two.
This is pretty much it.

Force the Cowboys into 15 play drives and sooner or later it will stall, forcing a FG. The Giants played it to perfection yesterday. As soon as the opposition puts a safety over the top against Dez, he taken right out of the offense.

Is Dez now Hakeem Nicks?

Not as far fetched as some want to believe.

I've never been a fan of Dez' route-running. But he certainly improved from his first two years .
.
As for his overall play; Dez has made so many great catches in heavy traffic in his career that people now blame him if he doesn't come down with the ball every time.
Those are now real "drops". Those are just incompletions for most other WRs, with no questions asked.

Dez is going to have a tough time rebounding from yesterdays performance having Josh Norman clinging to him next week.
