Emmitt Smith on the Cowboys

I keep seeing these type of comments...turn Dakota loose or don't be conservative when it comes to Dakota. The Cowboys threw the ball 45 times and ran it 30 times against the Giants. Pretty sure that is letting the kid play.

The minute Dakota is "let loose" and has a bad game with poor decisions and turnovers like most rookie/young QBs tend to have...then there will be those crying about Dallas not protecting the QB with the running game behind the League's best OL. Smh...

Most of those were in essence long hand offs. Most passes were less than 10 yards.

That's where the progressions took him. Fairly certain that there were routes that were run among those 10 yards or less completions that were deep routes. The defense dictated where he went with the ball. Dakota sort of addressed this type of thing when dealing with questions about targeting Dez...said if the progression leads to Dez then Dez will get the ball.

Gotta throw where a guy is open or has a favorable matchup until Dakota matures enough to take chances to Dez even if he is tightly covered or has to throw him open. That will come soon enough...the kid will develop and improve. It's only been one game.

Well basically emmitt was saying the offensive plays and game plan sucked, and they are reigning in Dak.
Playing to not lose.
How many times did dak take off and run adlib?
How many passes to elliot in the flat?
How many passes to dunbar ?
Slant passes, using middle of field
Screens
When a team is stopping the run, screen passes and passes in the flat can work.
They just kept running into the giants strength.

I have to agree, there are so many things they could do but dont, it is frustrating.

They were trying to keep from turning the ball over, but they are going to have to open it up more against the Skins.

He's essentially just reiterating what most on this board and some in the media have been saying regarding our Offense. The Coaching sucks. He's not wrong.

Even his former teammates have stopped defending Garrett, stop with the 'take what they give us' nonsense and 'take what you want to take'. Know your team and your opponent and maximize your advantages and minimize your weaknesses. Coach!

But while I agree with Emmitt in general, I didn't see them 'holding back' Prescott in this first game.
