The good news is next year's draft class should be loaded with defensive linemen.

i hope so, but teams are going to know to jump ahead of us to take any good DE if they prioritize one.

This is not a Jaylon Smith discussion.
After Commanders roasting our D today with 0 sacks, it is obvious what we are missing is obvious an edge rusher (or 2).
Some suggested drafting edge rusher at our slot in round 2 of 2016 draft.

Lets analyze where the DEs were picked and how they performed this season.
Other than Spence (character risk), no one else was available at #34 that was highly rated by most scouts.

Here are the DEs picked between Jaylon and Maliek Collins:
1. Noah Spence - character risk - 4 sacks - he was not on their leaked draft board
2. Kamalei Correa - 0 sacks, enough said
3. Jihad Ward - 0 sacks, enough said
4. Carl Nassib - 1.5 sacks, enough said

Here are who was picked between Maliek and Tapper:
1. Ngakoue, Yannick - 5 sacks, but apparently not on their draft board. Furthermore, if they liked him, they could have taken him instead of Maliek. DE was the first priority, not DT given that we were trying to pick Ogbah over Jaylon smith.
2. Shilique Calhoun - 0,5 sacks, enough said.

They choose Tapper over all remaining edge rushers.

I really think Tapper would be contributing if he were healthy.

The pass rush yesterday was pretty good for a half. Cousins got hit at least five times. Just not getting there as quickly as needed. It needs more consistency.

We were going to take Ogbah but he went before us. So, no there wasn't anyone graded in that spot when we picked.
Dodd as well. It was like the 20145 draft where 2 HB targets (Allen and Davis went right before our 4th round pick

Myles Garrett should be ahead of Allen on that list . Garrett will be the first player taken. Allen will be a top 5 pick though.

Trade Romo for a 1st then trade both 1st round picks to move up for Myles Garrett. ;)

It is odd that Spence was off their board but that Randy Gregory was not the previous year.

Both Gregory and Jaylon Smith were riskier picks than Spence.

The blitz schemes were working far better in their first 2 drives.
Then not sure what happened.
It seems we got burned a couple times when blitz then went to prevent.
On the long TD, it seemed very possible that Skins would have gone long on that down because they needed only 1 yard.

I think they decided to stay off character risks after Hardy and Gregory problems.
Unless the risk reward was far more in favor.
