Carr has far worse numbers and a worse record than Dak. So why on Earth does he deserve it over Dak?
Far worse numbers?
66.4% Completion, 22TDs, 5 INTs. 3,115 yards passing.
67.9% Completion, 18P+5R TDs, 2 INTs. 2,835 yards passing
They are virtually the same, with Carr having 3 more picks.
Quarterback play has a lot to do with the record, as we saw last year, however, it isn't the end all for how well a team does.
Carr's team is 8-2, Dak's team is 9-1. Dude, that's a game difference.
It helps Carr, media wise, that he has been in the league longer and has improved each year for a team that has been bad for so long. (Not that I'm including that in why I'm ok with him winning it).
I said I would be fine with Carr winning it. It's not a knock on Dak, unless you make it a knock on him. He has done a very good job in a tough division, and like Dak, has had a big part in their winning ways.
If Dak keeps it up, no reason not believe he will, then he definitely has a strong argument to be the MVP.
Dak will lose some steam because of how well Zeke is playing. Just like in 14 with Romo losing steam to how well Murray played that year(and record breaking team numbers) IMO.
Doesn't mean I don't think Dak shouldn't be in the conversation, or getting consideration.
What puts Carr ahead for me is that he is doing a very good job without a legit top 5 running back. L. Murray has 471 yards, and a 3.9 avg. They also have a couple other backs with 300 yards each, one has a 75 yard run boosting his numbers higher.
Receiver wise, the teams are about equal IMO, with Dez being close to Cooper overall, and Beasley making up for the Crabtree vs Williams matchup.
Not to mention reliable Witten > Clive Walford or whoever they have at TE.
As for the running backs being added to the MVP award, it's because said running backs were/are having great years, compared to their peers.
Murray broke the Cowboys rushing record that year, led the league in TDs(tied) and had just under 500 yards rushing over the next dude, while posting a 4.71 YPC. Doesn't matter he was run into the ground. He was given a large workload and delivered.
As for Zeke being mentioned, It's clear why he is brought up. He's a dynamic running back that can set the tone/end a game with his freak abilities. When he has games like the one versus the Steelers, on a national stage, he will command MVP talk, and rightfully so. And when the media talks up the "vaunted" #1 run defense in Green Bay, and Zeke has a field day... Its not to knock the Cowboys QB out of the MVP talk.
While Zeke won't hit 2k this year, if he can get close to Dickersons record, and keep scoring TDs then he should be considered.
I have it as
Carr
Dak
Ryan
Zeke
